Oh, I'm sorry, did I break your concentration somewhere between science and superstition such sites to show you strange aeons. Welcome to strange aeons radio. That's Eric over there. Hello. That's finesse over there. Hello, I'm Kelly. Guys. This is the weekend after crypto con. And I have the konkret. Thankfully, it's just the Concord Yes. Yeah. Yeah. I haven't heard a lot of you know, we had, we had a little bit of a COVID thing last year. Haven't seen anybody posting about it this year. So waiting. I'm shocked. I'm absolutely shocked that not everybody on earth got COVID from this natural immunity from last year's. That and next year is going to be another bad one. cyclical. Oh. What do you guys think you have a good time at crypto con. Yeah, you know, it was it was pretty fun. I definitely the strange aeons panel was my favorite. Really? Yeah. That's cool. That went over pretty well. Yeah, it went really smooth and had enough people that wasn't embarrassing. When we're all well engaged. Yeah, good questions at the end. And I've already gotten some personal feedback on the episode people saying they really enjoyed it and the trivia I liked. Who was it? who responded? I can't wait to watch this again. And still not like it but have all this extra trivia. Don't like I liked the movie, but I've done our job. What about you guys? Well, it went well, for me is nice, because I finally have like, Carlos, Crystal and Mark are all able to run the events, which means I'm not in demand almost every hour on the hour to do something. Yeah. And check on things and double check as they're going through. So I was actually able to do a couple panels this year. And so it was it was fun. I'd say yeah, extra help does not suck having Jason Vyas show up. For every one of my technical panels. I need to be, you know, something plugged in. And he knew and he was just there. And you know, on it was incredible. Yeah, he did a great job. He helped set up the film room as well. And, man, thank you. Yeah, he's a good guy checked in on me to make sure everything was cool. And I said, we should grab a drink. And then we promptly did not ever grab a drink. Yeah, that's the way we'll yet again. Our team did not get a photo. We're pretty good to see on Facebook. A lot of pictures of YouTube. Where am I? Not there? Oh, you left a lot to it. We both stayed in the hotel. And we wouldn't have gotten a picture at the party, though. We need to Yeah, we need to actually make a point of that. Yes. There were actually friends of ours in the audience of the live podcast and not one of them took a picture of us. So crazy. Yeah, absolutely crazy. Yeah. I really loved the panels I was on that was great. seeing old friends. There's a group of guys to get together there that Eric and I are a part of. And the only time we are all together in one place is crypto con. For a few years. It hasn't been all of us. Right? So But this year, it was all Yeah, so that was really fun. My face hurt from laughing so much with those guys. The EX showed up. Yes. Do something that was yours. Yeah, it was a little little surprising because Eric is surely that she would not have the balls to show up. But there she was. I finally got to see her like in human form. And then could never stop seeing her at least on day one. I was like, Oh, there she is again. Oh, there she is again. Oh, there she is, again. We have this very strange thing now where we see each other but pretend we don't see each other. So there's zero interaction. It's incredibly uncomfortable. But I was at least with my tribe this time. And literally, I mean, she has burned her bridges at this con so severely that I was surprised that she had the balls to show up there. Mica made sure to point out that her her new man looks uncomfortably like me. Also, but I didn't stray very far from the big boob golf girl after her either so we obviously have a type and I'm sure he's very nice guy. So my real fear and I was like how am I going to handle when I Step onto the elevator and it's just the two of them. I was like, I think I'm just gonna give them both a hug. Really just be like, Hey, thank you. I, I would never in a million years be able to do that. I'd be like, I'm just gonna get off on this floor now. I give him a hug and whisper in his ear, if you need help, like, twice. Man, I remember when I started dating the worst boyfriend and on planet Earth, I remember that. Yeah. I'm sure you guys remember him much more than you remember me at the time? Because he is not really because we had the myth association. So I knew him. That's true. And I met one of his friends. And I remember she like gave me a hug and she whispered in my ear, Ron. Oh, she's. And I thought she was kidding. And I really did not know. I did not know until much later that she was serious. Wow. Yeah. I was a little bummed that I didn't get to spend as much time with Carlos or mica mica came out. I mean, I spent a lot of time with Michael, we recorded an episode of The Amityville Horror Picture Show. Vanessa? The episode we recorded for Amityville six is longer than the movie. So I knew it must have gone very well. Because he came so late to my panel. It was like the last 10 minutes maybe? I was like, Oh, okay. I mean, I know. I said, like, please enjoy yourself and take your time. But come on. Vanessa, let me tell you how much he likes this movie. I go through, you know, if you've listened to any of the episodes, I go through the basic beats of the story. But if I skipped a beat, Michael would be like, hold on, you forgot. And I was like, no, no, no, I did not forgot. I was not going to talk about that. But here we are. And we went through every single beat. Now this is recorded well in advance of when it's going to show because we still haven't recorded the episodes for four and five. Although we do have four with a date lined up very soon, yeah, it's gonna be a real treat. It's gonna be a real treat for when everybody gets there. They'll finally get to hear Mike his voice after hearing so much about him on our pod. He and I drank a lot. We talked a lot talked a lot of Micronauts stuff. Excellent. Thank God, for your system. I really, really love that guy. And thank you so much for bringing him into my life. Of course, of course. And I spent a lot of time in the con talking to Carlos, thank you for bringing him in. Good. I did get to spend a little bit of time with Carlos. The problem is as you make more and more friends with these things, you get to spend less and less time with everyone. And so I did go up and have bubbles with Carlos and his wife. And that was really fun. But I was double booked because I was supposed to be hanging with Brian and Gwen on Lovecraft Film Festival. And so I escaped from there and then ran over to 13 coins and then hung out mostly with Gwen because I was sitting on her side and I got to hear just this fascinating story about her. Man, I just I just love those guys. Oh, man. They're great people. Yeah, super incredible. I'm, I really enjoy running into them as well. And yeah, just getting to know these really cool human beings that are out there that I never would have met outside. I know. I did enjoy our panel with them. Because we went on this panel and Brian Gwen run the HP Lovecraft Film Festival for more than a decade now I think Oh, yeah. And really, really, really know their stuff. So Kelly and I can look at each other. Yeah, we, we know HP. But do we need to be on this panel? And separately, we both went up to Gwen and she's like, No, no, no, we saw you're there. We've kind of made changes. So you have to be there. So we go there and that turns out the panel is talking about the history of Lovecraft films. And I think I know what changes were made. There were three movies edited that I bet were not in the original presentation. When they've done this in the past I can guarantee our two short films and our feature we're not in there. Yeah, that was that was nice and surprising and uncomfortable. Yes. But I got to say my my piece on how I feel about some of those things. I thought that was great. I did not enjoy that other dude bro. Who is there with you guys. He is a very knowledgeable also, but he was also having a bad night he had a migraine while he was doing the panel that feels like a good enough reason to skip out. Yeah, but he he talked so much. He talks so much and like I don't know I was just like I just want Brian and go and talk and it was supposed to be was just Brian and Glenn and then Eric and I horned our way in without knowing it was a presentation instead of a panel, you know, that goes when I do the surprise that never ceases to surprise me, which totally turned out fine for me this year because I did two workshops, there workshops, not panels, workshops, which means I am helping workshops, something, and I had a surprise name, but it turned out to be totally okay. So, yeah, so it was I don't know who is doing this, but it's extremely frustrating. But I think you guys watching you on Brian and Glenn's panel, it was almost like special guest stars, because you guys got to talk about things that were being shown to us. This other guy was just like, oh, yeah, on this movie that they were about to click on every time and I'm like, could you just fuckin Wait, like literally one second. Also, the panel did run like an hour over half an hour over? Yeah, they had no panel afterwards. So they've totally fine. But I think if he hadn't talked as much as he did, they would have gotten closer to the end mark. So when I leave was time kept going. I was like getting angrier and angrier. And because I was like, well, some of that came from audience depth and also the depth of knowledge of Brian. That's true, where he's like, Well, we're just going to quickly go through a few and then proceed to talk about each film. But I didn't have problems with that. That was the that was the extended part that I could have gone with the whole 100%. I mean, it was a super ambitious panel to do six years in an hour and have seen clips and stuff like that. I think that maybe a movie from each year, rather than a couple of movies. There's no reason for, like feature film to be in the same year as the Lovecraft historical societies with Hulu, right? That's the film of that year that should be being talked about. Every presentation is completely green that year. It's like oh, well, nobody's gonna remember this at all. I did want to throw out a little thanks to to the northwest filmmakers that showed up. Holy shit, crypto, can we do it Northwest filmmakers showcase on Friday night were put together anywhere from two to four blocks of shorts and a feature from the Northwest. And the amount of filmmakers that shown up this year was stunning. There's the first block probably had 40 filmmakers at it. The next one probably had 30 Maybe if not, I mean, it was. It was great. And the Northwest films are finally really some really, really good ones. So that's awesome. Yeah, I mean, overall, I'd say this was a a, you know, resounding success. It seemed much higher attended than last year. I don't know if that's just me. But Friday nights seemed very busy. Right. It was one of the busiest Fridays crip concert ever had. Oh, good. But Saturday was not, but okay. But it still did. Well, I haven't heard any official numbers yet. I just know Friday was for some reason, insane. And really neat costumes wandering around. The hearse collection outside is always really cool. And it was a lovely weekend to wander around. Look at that stuff. Yeah, really good weather. Yeah, I mean, even my$18 Burger now. Nevermind. I can't even say that was a straight face. $18 for a fucking burger. And that was their cryptic con special. Oh, that was the hotel Yes. Oh, yes. Yes. No good rough. Oh, but can't wait to do it all over again next year. Yeah, yeah. Should we talk about a film Sure. Something like that. I saw a movie and I bet you guys did not see this. Oh, it's called sisu No, though, you guys to watch. It is what is this about? This is by the filmmaker who made rare exports. Okay, it is starring the Father Son. Team again. Oh my God and he plays he the older man plays a Finnish gold miner in World War Two and the Nazis are coming through and he has just struck the mother lode of gold and the Nazis tried to take it from him Oh, violently Wades through you know all of these Nazis that are on his tail and trying to stop them from doing this and and one of the Nazis is the little boy from Rare Expo might get his face gun I know I've seen this guy before but I don't know where I would have and when I finally looked it up. Oh, he's the little boy running around in his underwear and rare. Oh my god. trailer for that. How did see it is wonderfully gory, gruesome and absolutely worth the rental it is on prime as rental right now. Fantastic. Wow. So so good. Well, I guess it's been a hot minute since we met up. I went and saw Guardians of the Galaxy three Now talk about it, please. I really enjoyed it very much. It is darkest fuck dark movie like, I mean even from the get go, I was like, are we going to start with all the characters being murdered and then go back in time or something and try to like because the the introduction of one of the like kind of semi villains of the golden god kid coming in and just breaking arms and limbs and faces and you're just like, whoa, what's his name? We'll we'll put Patel or something like, I can't remember. Let me just interrupt you for a minute. I hate doing but Eric Do you remember when years and years ago we went saw a movie at Sif? called Son of Rambo. Oh, yeah, that's that kid. On a Rambo. Yes, that kid grown up. Wow. Yeah, he's really talented, that I enjoyed his character very much. But I already kind of experienced him to the video game, which I feel like is canon from this film. Like there's something really, I don't know it or at least, like spiritually. But anyway, this this film was, it was good. I don't know about having kids go to it. They're gonna learn a lot about animal cruelty. I mean, you're really by the end can be like, fuck anyone who would ever experiment on animals ever. Fuck you to hell? I shed a tear or two in this movie. Would you agree with me? I tried to kind of couch it when we were talking about it. Last two weeks, whatever. That it's a very mature ending for Star Lord and Gomorrah. Yeah. 100%. I really enjoyed that kind of finale and that decision that the filmmakers made? I think that that worked out really good neighbors say running and falling or something. Yeah. A lot of stuff. Is apartment living, you guess? Yeah, no, I think that they handled that relationship really well. And there was something also about seeing her camaraderie with her other crewmates. Yeah, it was really like cool. Like, oh, she's not lost without right. She has filmed the family. Yeah, she has this. It was yeah, there was something really nice about that. Not not exactly what I was expecting for the film, but I did really really enjoy it. Yeah, absolutely. And I'm really glad they finally they just went ahead and went full. Like we're gonna go into rocket story now. I'm really glad that was the decision to end on. Well, I went to see an intellectual film this weekend and stay fastex Oh, my God, I cannot wait. I mean, it's fantastic. It's I mean, I it is it fast nine fantastic. Which I gotta admit after he told me that was fantastic. I thought that was garbage. Oh, it's ridiculous. Fast nine is ridiculous. But that's the one where I mean, they go into freakin space. How do they how do they beat going into space? They really don't. Which was part of what I say all the people going well is unrealistic for fuck sake. It's been unrealistic for at least five movies so I can move past that if you don't go that into this realizing or watching some kind of weird synbiotic car person superhero movie, then go watch something else because you're gonna hate it. What's the first one? Yeah. First one's pretty much more straightforward than 434 is boring. The present a new villain in this one with Jason Momoa being wonderfully over the top ridiculous villain he is so flamboyant and strange and mean is a lot of fun. And they brought in another fun one of my it's like, all they got to do is add Walter Goggins into this damn series. And they've almost nailed it. Alan Richardson is in this movie. Now. Oh, okay. reacher Yeah. Okay, he's one of the new big entries into the movie and excellent. Everybody that's still alive makes an appearance in this movie. Oh my gosh. This every move. Is this the final film? No, no, unless unless they're gonna go out on a real fuck you crowd No. Is it a two parter final film? Not that I've seen but it's Oh, it dips so deep in the melodrama though at first because I'd read the reviews are pretty good. I don't know this is useful you know if you're going to leave Fast and Furious nine should have kicked you out. Because it had plenty of ridiculous problems. But if you stuck through nine and you're at 10 You're in for the ride. So you know what, just go with the ridiculous families everything kind of speeches that he has to give like every 1015 minutes right. Would you Say, Vanessa, have you seen these movies? I have seen one. And I have seen seven. The one where Paul Walker dies. Okay, I see combination. Yep. Eric as a connoisseur would you say that five is probably the new deer of this series? Yeah, I would say so to ice. I mean, I legitimately love that movie. And I've seen it more than once. The the new villain is based on that safe stealing scene. So it starts with that watching the beginning this movie gone off away from familiar, but they extend it a little bit longer. And you Jason becomes part of the story. You sound a bit shy man. It is it does not have. Well, Chris has a scene or two. But it really doesn't have the ridiculousness level of flinging cars across canyons and going into space that night. And did it has a scene or two that touch on that. But it's got some much more, quote real style car races, and then it has it for a while. But yeah, it's still there's stuff I really do love about these movies. And it's mostly the ridiculous stuff. Like Vin Toretto is that as Toretto getting married in his dress wife beater, you know, that he works on cars with but that he's got a much fancier wife beater to wear at his wedding. I enjoyed that a lot. I've also been thinking that Vin Diesel's name is more the name of the hero of a movie called Fast and Furious than the VIN vehicle identification. And D that should be your hero right but itself right? Be your own character in this film. Absolutely of the end there's also definitely going to be another Hobbs and Shaw Oh, okay. I mean look as ridiculous as the Fast and Furious movies get when you see the rock holding on to one end of the chain tied to a jeep and the other end of the chain tied to a helicopter and he's holding it all together. I'm totally fine with that and the fact that they're fighting a cyborg just like you know what no problem buying this wow okay, I don't know what else say about your good you don't know You know, we were talking about how they're basically superhero films and everything and it's not even that the humans are superheroes the cars are also superheroes if you've ever seen a car jump and then land below usually a bottoms out and everything falls off the wheels bend of that but not these cars these cars are fucking awesome yeah there's there's a scene or two where they really take advantage they need to put capes on the cars they need to have little asterix is everywhere being like not possible in on Earth. professional driver Do not attempt I would go with Egi card Do Not Attempt go with the warning I was thinking of this is the 10th movie in this series. If you've watched five through nine you know what to expect. Enjoy. We don't need to just have been at the beginning and like the black background really? Hello. You're here. Curious 10 I'd like to talk to you about what you're about to experience today. More than anything now I want to know how they're going to label fast 11 Or is it furious? 11 Oh that guy don't know fast 10 Furious 11 Right. Whoa. Let's take a break you guys. So I can hold myself down. And when we come back we're talking more vehicles big wheels are rolling into them turn of Big Wheel solar power with speeding up the burn. Breaking a big wheel buy marks with adjustable seat handy saddlebag and a quick stop racing brake. Braking it's the big wheel with saddlebag and racing brake. Big Wheel by marks. If we make it it can take it Hello, let's see who's called the strange aeons radio hotline. Hey guys, this is robes. I just listened to splitting atoms and loved it. I'm gonna watch all three of those films. However, Kelly, I have to say when you mentioned your movie was directed by ARCHIE MILLER, I started to fanboy out but you only mentioned his contribution To film and as an lover of old time radio, I have to point out that Archer Oh Blair was a prolific producer and writer of early radio shows, most notably the greatest car radio series in history. Lights out. He even wrote the infamous chicken heart episode which has been parodied and lampooned by several comedians and writers throughout history. Just wanted to point that out. You can feel free to use this on the air although it might be far too nerdy to do. So. Thanks, guys. If you'd like to call the strange aeons radio hotline dial 253-237-4266. We have returned Eric, this was your sub genre. Yes, yes, it was talking about movies that primarily rotate around people being on wheeled vehicles. This is largely because when we're doing the apocalypse movie, I came across this film called warriors of the year 27 Two. job is to teach him to hate I think I punish I run computers and it doesn't matter to me. If I analyze men or accept they're in the hate Business Center. I can't understand why you people won't let anyone worldwide TV What is this for? It's nothing break. It just keeps track of how you are and where you are. This red light here is you and the others are your competition that comforts me to know that you haven't changed in seven years Cortez, you're still a snake yo, stupid. Who is going to be the first to fly? You thrilled to the savage intensity of hand to hand combat. Now you're in for another exceptional human contest. The fight to the finish chariot race 20 perilous laps of no holds motorized conflict. Death is the penalty for a gladiator who leaves the track or refuses combat. Death will ride with every man as he fights for his life. Has Cortez ordered any other changes in the official program? Affirmative. What changes all surviving gladiators to be d materialized 20 minutes after end of games. 187 two, that's a specific year. But it did not eat actually isn't an apocalypse film. So I couldn't watch that gone. Ah damn. It's a sports movie with motorcycles and all that shit. came out in 1983 it does not have a single professional review on Rotten Tomatoes. Oh my God, much less a rating but 20 from the people who I disagree with thoroughly. No budget no box office who the hell knows. This is directed by Luci folchi Who I gotta tell you after watching fast X. It felt she had a 50 $75 million $100 million budget. That's the movie he would make. Why? Because that's what this movie. Oh wow. In a way. But you might know him from such films as a cat in the brain. demonia murder rock dancing death that's one film and how to rob the bank of Italy. In case you're wondering, written by Elisa briga naughty who were wrote on worked on zombie 1990 The Bronx warriors hands up steal a blade in the dark. There's like four writers on this Caesar for Gani, who wrote the island of the fisherman, the spider labyrinth and the great alligator. And folchi, who you might know from writing a cat in the brain demonia murder, rock dancing death and how to rob the bank of Italy. And then finally, Giordano Saatchi who wrote killer crocodile one and to the church. Yes, specify Vanessa. Demons to and murder to the tune of the seven black notes. Got a lot of these Italian titles starring Jared Martin who was in Westworld 34 episodes of the TVC dairies Dallas and damn near every series you can think of from 75 to 95. The wonderful a fantastic Fred Williamson from from dusk till dawn VFW Children of the Corn five fields of terror, which kind of makes me want to watch that one. And Star Trek The Original Series. Yes, apparently it's now known as TOS Yeah. With he's got 134 credits overall. So you've seen him in something Howard Ross from the New York Ripper. Crows at 11, the killer reserved and nine seats. And when men carried clubs and women play ding dong. visuals. The visuals are so specific. I have no idea what that last movie is about. But that is a title. And Eleanor Bricklet Dorney who was in the belt rally and a few men of goodwill. Let's say this is one of those classic films that opens with over two minutes of credits. Why? Because he needs to pad the shit out of this film. The first shot kind of looks like a super low budget Blade Runner. But I'm gonna tell you as the movie went on, I fell in love with his friggin miniatures, they must have spent a fortune on it because they used it a lot. It had a miniature miniature Vatican who had a little miniature Colosseum, and all these miniature buildings, everything had lights running up and down and all over the place. Have you had what? Where? I think we're supposed to be few screens, but either moved very little or not at all. So I think they were like, photos posted on it or something. But they're awesome. So the game setup is this really like the first to go, Wow, this movie is going to be rough. Because the gladiator battle scene was his really lame thing with a couple motorcycles racing at each other and knocking each other off. One is that it? But no, immediately following it, the TV guys are going man, we need to do something more. With our motorcycle things people are getting bored. Nice. Although this particular thing was allowed no audience because if 2000 spectators were killed in mob violence. The TV says stay there. The bet that the TV execs option, of course is we need to bring back full on gladiator battles. So they pull in a whole bunch of convicted men are murdered and give them the option of going free because of course it's a battle to the death, but their hero from the opening scene. They need him so somebody can root for you. And you got to have that hero in your TV series. So they hire three people to kill his wife. And then frame him as the person that killed the three people that killed his wife. I say the design on this movie still holds on to the 70s aesthetic. It's just they removed everything kind of brown and orange and kept all the white. But the the style of the way things are shaped and the way things look still looks like futuristic 70s film there do a weird soup of that scene where the lady gets killed because I get fooled. She's directed horror films because it's actually kind of creepy. It's completely out of place in the film, but really well. But if this point right note comes in as they start to bring in the heroes guys. This movie's crazy fun. This is so much fun to watch. It is so dumb. It's so over the top is so aware of what it is. Has this ridiculous? Are they ready? Have like I don't even know what these people are ready for. It's not the contestants, it might be camera crew, but then it's just this dramatic shot of like 10 guys on motorcycles with lights coming out the front there's amazing music playing as they drive down the streets of Rome. Is this even for to look cool? That's what it's for. They then set them up into a series of battles in this obnoxious damn near nauseating level of strobe light use or apparently it's how they evaluate their abilities to kill. Or their fighting abilities or something. I don't know. There's a series of stuff where they try to escape and things go poorly, but hey, it's still good TV. And there are all end with the line from the movie. 19 contestants enter. Okay, I'm gonna say a little bit more. They battle on motorcycles, and then they battle on a motorcycle with a sidecar. There's something going on, and it's it's ridiculous. It's so much fun. It's so dumb. Some notes on this, there's a whole lot of comparisons when you read the reviews and stuff for this film to roll our bar ball, which I love. One of my favorite films, the original 70s Rollerball, but I don't see it at all. The only similarity is people dying in their motorcycles. Beyond that the storyline is far deeper and more insidious and the sport is a sport that people just happen today and not a sport where you're supposed to die. So I disagree with that. One of the keys to the game is a peaceful AI system that goes rogue or gets programmed to go rogue is that from today's headlines but they do a little bit it doesn't quite they could have done more with that they started introduce it as a reason when you're if you will when you're going to be killed anyways by the by the AI system whatever they call it in there. So alright. The acting though and this is where luckily it came right at the beginning of the movie. So I got okay set my expectations. I'm like Bruno Matej could have done a little better with the ticket as well how the music is strong. It's by a guy named Rezaee Rizz or tagliani who did like easily best known for Cannibal Holocaust but he's done 240 movies almost the movies original title was here was 2017 in the UK it became Rome top 2033 The fighting Centurions the first Italian VHS had the date is 20 791 release even added at 2001 Oh no. So it was released in there's multiple versions of course accessories what you did with these movies. Variety revealed the film, lore critique the film noting inadequate model shots bullshit, those model shots are cool as hell. They're just obviously model shots of a futuristics. cityscape. cribbed from the Blade Runner style. It was a boring film. No, no, it's not. Full cheese fans are bound to be disappointed. No, not necessarily. Noting that. I mean, there's plenty of gore to there's ridiculous decapitations and all kinds of strange shit that happens for no reason other than to happen. focuses on the preparations and arguments concerning the game which actually does not begin to one hour into the picture. My first thought on this is like, do you not ever watch 70s and early 80s films, most of those movies nothing happens until half an hour is left in the film. And sometimes that stuff's handled really well. And sometimes it's handled really shitty so you get really bored. This was not boring. It was just silly. And that pretty much covers my coverage of that one. I made it under time barely looks like remind me what year this came out. Maybe three. Wow. I wonder why they went so far ahead with the date on this. I don't know they does in 2017 72 is not a roll off the tongue. Kind of date. Now. We'll keep trying to say 2017 it but it's Italian. Yeah, maybe an Italian it rolls off the tongue. It's very briny. It sounds cool. And the IMDB listing does have the original Italian name. So yeah, but it's also just it's one of those things where you're like, when you look forward, it's not 91 years into the future. That's not very dramatic. Very good point. So yeah, I would say it's been a while it seems on this show since I've watched something that I enjoyed as much as this ridiculous is the streaming somewhere, I believe with the one I've got as a sovereign disk, or one of their cheap versions at least none other $60 ones but I believe it's usually seven also has lots of streaming deals as well. So you should be able to find it. I think it's ought to be. This sounds like it's right up my alley. Oh, Man Well, I decided to go with a film that I had seen a couple years ago and is just crazy enough that I wanted to talk about it. That would be 1990s The ambulance a killer is loose in New York City. I'm gonna call an ambulance Okay, well you look at this computer print out all the missing persons reports in the last two weeks. What exactly happened? I don't know. Do something that go yourself. You want those psychopaths kills girls and goes to the police to tell stories anything okay, I was just trying to get away from no one man has to find your true American it picks up New York and then ever seen or heard from a vehicle of Mercy that's really murder machine he found the ambulance what's going on don't go anywhere Eric Roberts, James Earl Jones The ambulance if you call for help you're dead I don't know if I'm not familiar with this one. Okay. Oh my god. All right, well Rotten Tomato score. Not super well known. I will say outside of like it's kind of fairly recently shown up with shout factory on blu rays. So I don't know how readily available it was before then. Rotten Tomatoes score None from critics. 49% from audience budget of 4 million box office of the only box office numbers I could find was 45k in Germany. Oh no. I suspected had more money come in but I am really not sure. Written and directed by Larry Cohen. Oh, yeah. Okay, because I just now looked up go Oh, I know this poster. That's probably why Yep. 87 writing credits including phone booth Body Snatchers maniac cop the stuff cue the winged serpent. It's alive. also directed. Wicked Stepmother deadly illusion returned to Salem sloth. It's alive most of queuing and serpent. We have ran into Mr. Cohen before and probably will again. I'm starring one Eric Roberts 729 credits. I was like he must do a lot of voiceover work. No. He just doesn't walk on if it seems like if he doesn't walk around. It's got to be like a three episode or something. Totally. Totally call a working actor. Yeah, really? Okay. Like I don't think he turns anything down. I don't think he says no, I think he's he's got the real like, Yes, man syndrome going on. I'm using runaway train, The Expendables, The Dark Knight 34 episodes of young and the restless and also Julia Roberts estranged brother. Should you believe the lesser quality websites out there? James Earl Jones 189 credits Darth Vader Lion King is Mufasa coming to America 100 For Red October 19 episodes of Third Rock from the Sun as narrator and three episodes of ever would. Always fun for me, ever would mentioned. And Megan Gallagher, who has 68 credits, including National Lampoon's Van Wilder, Mr. And Mrs. Smith millennium. She was in 45 episodes of Millennium and two episodes of Star Trek Deep Space Nine. So the story Larry Cohen, so we're good. Okay. There's this dude, right? There's this comic book artist named Josh Baker, played by of course, they're lovely, lovely Eric Roberts. He's following a beautiful woman down the street in New York City on a busy kind of lunchtime day. He's seen her day after day and today he's going to stalk her endlessly and finally talk to her. She keeps blowing him off despite his very charming attempts, including buying her an off brand Walkman which falls apart in her hands until she's kind of almost sort of flirting back with him and then she suddenly passes out on the side of the street. He stays with her until an ambulance arrives weirdly. A very Your old ambulance where she finally tells him her name is Cheryl, and that she's a diabetic. He promises to visit her in the hospital finds out which hospital she's going to be in. But when he goes, she's not there. Then he tries many hospitals, many, many hospitals and she's not at any of them. He then goes to the police where James Earl Jones, a gum chewing cop with zero patience and a lot of eccentric behaviors. tells him he's probably killed her himself. So he's like, Well, you seem like you'd be a real weirdo weird wacko phones scroll around. I bet you did it on and he's like, I You're not helpful. But he's a very weird dude. So dialogue. I need you to do it in your best James Earl Jones impersonation. Oh God, there's so much guns backing though. So, Sean. But you didn't know. Sean Connery is really not good at accents. We all know this. All right. So despite he does show however, James Earl Jones the best drawing image of her because remember, this guy's a comic book artist. So surely he draw a very realistic beautiful picture of this woman? No, it looks like an outline Betty Veronica style. Completely useless. Okay, there's no luck. So Josh then stands out on the street with the same picture with a little note on it that says, Have you seen me until her roommate goes, Oh, that's my roommate. And they talk and she's very suspicious of Josh as well thinking that maybe he's behind it. However, she goes and checks her voicemails because he's like, it's too short lived a message for you. And sure enough, somehow, she has left a message of distress and asks her roommate to meet her at a certain location in the city. Josh follows and it's basically like a horse stable, where I guess she was working on the weekends for extra money. I'm very confused by this entire situation. And Ray is the remain sneaks into this horse stable in busy downtown New York. She kind of disappears and then the ambulance pops out and just drives through the woods, splintering it. And obviously, having snatched the roommate makes his way away. Convinced this weird conspiracy of this ambulance is just taking people off the street. Josh tries to talk to James Earl Jones again, who does not believe him in any way shape, or form, but sort of starts to at least take notice of him and his assistant James Earl Jones is like, I don't know, Assistant cop lady really takes notice of him kind of thinks he's cute and funny and starts helping him out. And sure enough, slowly but surely, everyone's kind of abducted by this ambulance, including the disappearance of James Earl Jones, which forces his partner to team up with Josh, if so long as he can do his own best to not get snatched himself. And the ultimate game of cat and mouse begins. This movie is the ultimate and then and then and there. It's just like there's no like beginning middle end. It's just and then this thing happen. And then this thing happened. And then but everything is so insane. You can see moments where like, he gets written into a corner is like, oh, like the ambulance has Josh. But he's got to find a way to get out. So these dudes that just robbed him a minute ago, like convinces them to like beat up the ambulance guys, but but that's not good enough because the ambulance goes when and then they're driving off with Josh. But then Josh finds like a thing in there and like gets himself out of the ambulance. And then his little cartwheel is like going down the street at like 50 miles per hour. And then he really ends in the park. But then the ambulance goes go back and try and get him again. It's like, non stop. Like, could we move past this particular moment in time? Like every scene is 20 scenes in a row. It's still extremely like it does keep moving. just insanely and logically. You're just like, fucking what is happening right now. Honestly, this these weird changing, right writers changing moments are definitely the best thing about this film. I do like the Amazon description of this movie, which includes a Manhattan guy searches for a young woman who has been whisked away by a sinister red ambulance. Didn't even give him the name. James Earl Jones plays this role so hard, like so eccentrically and so hard. He's chewing gum. Then he gets stabbed. He's still chewing gum. I'm start shooting the guy that he gets killed. And in his last moments and breath, he does like three final choose. Liking goes for it. And Eric Roberts also, he's like too much. He's like way too much for this film. He's got real intensive energy happening. One main piece of trivia that I want to talk about. So at the time of this film was made Stan Lee was desperately trying to get some of his Marvel characters made into movies. He was not having any luck at all. He had this deal with a producer to do a movie of Dr. Strange. And Larry Cohen was hired to write the script. He wrote the script for the movie, which never got made, but in the process became friends with Stanley and when Cohen made this film, he said to Stan, I think I'm gonna make this character, a cartoonist who works for Marvel. I asked him to play himself, Stanley, he was really anxious to do it. It was the only time Stan had done some real scenes to play in a movie and some real dialogue and it in the Marvel pictures, he's mostly a walk on or an extra with me, he had a real character to play, even if it was the part of Stanley and they remained friends. So at one point, Josh goes to his office, and you're like, wow, they've I mean, this looks like a Marvel studio office. And they're like, Wow, they really got a guy who looks a lot like Stan Lee. But he's like, not a good actor. It's just kind of walking around in a suit. And you're like, Oh, hey, it is incredible. Absolutely incredible. You're stacking up the reasons to watch. I can't wait to watch this movie. I really think everyone not everyone. I think YouTube should watch this movie. It is absolutely it is so insane. Really, none of the other trivia that matches up to that. So remind me what year this came out. This was 1990. Wow. Yeah. Sounds good. Oh, it sounds like you really had a good time. I did. I you know, the first time I saw it, I remember really liking it. And I was like, I want to watch that again for this. What happens in this movie, and I couldn't for the life of me remember, anything that happened in this movie? And then watching it. I was like, now I know why. It's just fucking batshit at all moments. So 90 Did it look like it was shot on video? Or it doesn't look I mean, it looks like cheap, a cheap grain of film. Like, I don't know that it's video. And did you own this? Or were you able to stream this? I thought I owned it, but I couldn't find it. I mean, everything's still partly in boxes. So I streamed it I went ahead and streamed it on Amazon. My favorite thing about you Vanessa is all of the films that you own and have never watched and so you you get somebody saying you should watch this and I looked through my library and there it was, I owned it still in the cellophane and it does happen a fair amount actually. Yes, it's true. Well then I've gone through periods of my life of collecting things and sometimes I need to not and mostly that's DVDs and comics so that'll work. Did you have anything else you wanted to ask? Oh, I just like like I said, you set the stacking up the reasons Eric Roberts at the prime of his ridiculousness, such an Eric Roberts on literally like, a car full of cocaine. Like just regular Eric Roberts, louder and faster. There's no line that he is given that he says that a normal room town, not a one. So enjoy. I can't wait to hear you guys. What you guys think of it going on tonight. Okay, my turn within 10 minutes on the buzzer. I chose a film called Cyclone is the most dangerous secret weapon in the world. cyclo, the ultimate weapon on two wheels. A genius created it was involved in a very important military project. Everyone is told you have something I want. Only one woman who controls it. site level starring Heather Thomas and Martin Landau. Psychlo prepare for the ride of your life. It'll blow you away. Psychlo we have a team of one and machine 1987 I know Vanessa has seen that I have. I can't believe you went with this film. I cannot wait to hear what you think. I could find no budget information but a box office of$41,174 Whoo. Rotten Tomatoes critics unavailable, audience 16% Seems generous. Eric is looking at the poster for this now and it is something else. You guys should all look up the poster art for cyclone. It is really something else directed by Fred Olin Ray 163 directing credits, including bikini girls from the last planet, bikini Frankenstein, bikini Jones and the Temple of Eros and other bikini films you may or may not enjoy. Written by Paul Garson, who has two credits this and alienator which is a fredell and Raphael and also written by T. C. Lankford who has 19 credits, it's a bunch of Fredholm Ray movies and two episodes of Bosch. So this guy failed up. Starring Heather lock lair, she's 28 credits including zapped TJ hooker, and 112 episodes of The Fall Guy. Also starring Jeffrey Combs, 147 credits including Reanimator from beyond and The Frighteners. Ashley Farrar is in this she has three credits including Revenge Of The Ninja and the master. And Martin Landau. 178 credits. Got an Oscar for Ed Wood. He was in Sleepy Hollow and 48 episodes of space 1999 He, well, everybody. Okay, we open on a very groovy futuristic motorcycle they tested in the desert roads and such. And this bike looks ridiculous. It looks like one of the bikes from Galactica 1980. There you go. And the problem with this kind of movie in the 80s was that they had to build the bike around an existing bike frame, you know, so they couldn't design a really cool bike like from oblivion, and digitally make it or anything like that. So to make it look futuristic, it's a bunch of angles and smooth lines covering a regular, probably a dirt bike. It's just really blocky and stupid looking. When the bike pulls into the warehouse, it's being worked on. And the writers helmet is removed, we see a very young and handsome Jeffrey Combs and I gotta say, he's really handsome. He's ridiculously handsome. He should have become a leading man. And I think it's accepting film roles like this that probably stopped him from doing but he's so good looking. This is right after Reanimator. Anyway, then we cut to a gym scene that literally opens with a pair of big female breasts. Of which I am a fan, Vanessa, sir, by here towel. Yes. As the press is working. I've heard that about men heard that about men named Kelly. It's a cliche for a reason. We pull back to reveal this beautiful woman and she is the physical trainer for Heather Thomas. And this is actually kind of a cute endearing scene to introduce her because she's obviously very fit. But she is not muscular. In everything the trainer is asking her to do she cannot do. So the trainers, you know, lifting weights and all this stuff. And we finally see how the Thomas stood she you know, she's doing like two or three and then the physical trainers like good 10 more of those. And Heather Thomas has one really good facial expression she can make and that is like I can't believe they're asking me to do more of this. I'm sure it is something that you used a lot in life. But this is a it's a very cute scene yet you end up liking her. As she leaves she gets hit on by three tough dudes. And, and her trainer has to come to her rescue. It's kind of decent character building and you realize that okay, these two are really good friends. And obviously, she's going to have to overcome this to become the hero of this movie. She's also making a big deal about how she and her boyfriend are going out that night to a club and intercut with that as Jeffrey Combs rushing through whatever he's doing with the bike because he has a big date that night. And it all leads you to believe that it's the two of them going on this date together. But then it is revealed that is actually the two of them going on this date together and that is the problem with this fucking god it is just one thing goes into the next thing goes into the next thing. There's nothing surprising. Everything you see is actually what is happening in this grip. Incredible. It's just like, wow, there are all kinds of opportunities for them to be you know, going out with somebody else and then they meet or whatever, but nope everything this is it is. Okay. So we learned that Heather Thomas actually knows a lot about motorcycles. And when she shows up at the warehouse with parts that he needs for the bike, we learned that this bike is the most advanced weapon on the planet for some reason. And he's building it for the military, I think, or maybe he's just building it independently and going to sell it to the highest bidder. Unclear, apparently not important. They go out on their date, and they end up at this hot dance spot. And we're literally 15 minutes in the movie and Jeffrey Combs is assassinated on the dance floor with a metal spike to the back of the head, puncturing his brain and killing him instantly. Okay, I forgot about. Yeah, you guys, I started to get worried about this point in the movie, because Jeffrey Combs is far and above the best. And he's actually really good in this, but they take him out. I'm like, oh, no, I have made a very bad mistake. So the cops show up. And they seem to know that combs was working on something top secret, they want Heather to turn it over to them, but she plays dumb, quite easy for her. And when everything is finally taken care of, she splits for the secret warehouse. While she's there, a pre recorded video of Jeffrey Combs starts playing. It is the typical, if you're seeing this, that I must be dead. And now you have to deliver this project to the military. And he then goes on to tell her that the bike is more fun. This is literally from the movie, it has more firepower than an F 16. And shows her how to use everything, including the missile launchers, the lasers that come from the front of the bike, and also the lasers that you from the helmet you wear when you're wearing the bike. It is very crazy stuff. Also, that's not the coolest thing about this bike, this bike runs on oxygen. It has a special battery that can be easily removed. It's about the size of a small CD player. And this is the thing that everybody is going to want. Anyway, from there, it is a series of misadventures, Heather tries to deliver the motorcycle, the guy that she's trying to give it to, it's like, you know, well, I drove here to meet you. So you're gonna have to follow me back with the bike. And she's like, Oh, no, I'm done with this. Then that guy gets assassinated. And she has to jump on the bike and try to escape the people who are trying to kill her and trying to get to the bike. She's on the run from everyone is really, really, really stupid. who to trust half the cops that are trying to help her are on the wrong side of the law. And then it even turns out, her friend and physical trainer is in on it, too. She's been working with the bad guys the whole time. This is an absolutely ridiculous movie. It's got a couple of redeeming factors. First, the soundtrack is great, very 80s, synth rock music and a live number at the dance club by a band called haunted garage, doing their hit song devil metal. Sure, very enjoyable off the chase scenes surprisingly good. Lots of car flips and explosions and crashes and shit like that. Except that everything is taking place in a very deserted part of the city. And it's shot in a way that you can tell that they're basically in an industrial part of town. So Heather is is likable enough in this but man her acting is bad. But she has a great ass. And I feel very bad for Martin Landau. He is only in a couple of scenes, but he must have needed the money really, really badly. tagline. The ultimate team of woman and machine. Like I said, look up the poster. Real quick trivia. fredell and Ray originally wrote the script for Linda Blair to star and called it cycle warrior. But Blair passed on it say she wanted to go make comedies. Heather Thomas was cast and the title was changed and cyclone. According to Fred Olin Ray, have it Thomas was without a doubt the toughest person he'd ever had to work with. Remember, he's directed 140 Some films. He said she was demanding and unnecessarily cruel. Unnecessarily cruel to the cast and crew. She also went on to talk shows saying she worked for the movie for peanuts, even though she was paid $20,000 to only work for three weeks. Ray said he finally pulled her aside one day and told her if you don't do exactly what I tell you, I'm going to put on the widest fisheye lens on the camera. All your closest and you're going to look like a monkey looking into a Christmas tree bulb. incredible incredible. I have one last TV guy gave the movie two out of five stars finding the B movie cast to be more interesting than the movie itself. And according to the review site, DVD talk the movie is fun comparing it to an episode of knife writer or street talk although many of the effects are lacking. Oh wow. Ouch notes. I made it through the entire film. I didn't hate myself and I didn't hate my decision. Prior to this, I started watching a movie called Murder cycle. And I was like, I found the greatest movie ever a little gem that that could be double teamed with the race, you know, motorcycle alien lightning bolts and all this stuff. And then like, five minutes after the opening, it gets really, really bad. So we're about a clone instead and tough recommend on this one. It's available on YouTube. Sorry, I do have a follow up question. So hey, so it's Heather Locklear is the main female. Yes. Okay. I did not realize when I watched it, because I was like, was there any insinuation in the trivia that she was just drunk or high through this entire film? Well, no, but I can see why you might think that the film looks like she's like glazed over stumbly I don't know. It just felt like she was not present. 1987 And everybody was high. Odds are, the odds are strong. Plus, I mean, Jesus, some of the fredell and Ray, it's not like he did 140 movies for Paramount or something. He worked with all kinds of weird personalities that bad is impressive. Right? And 87 I think Heather Thomas is either with Richie Sambora or Tommy Lee, or somebody like that, so I guarantee you that Coke is a big part of her life. Yeah. And she looks bored and angry through most of this. Yeah. I don't know. There was part of me that was just kind of like, alright, you know, I'm fine with this. I was like, Alright, let's see if she stays on this bike. She won't fall over. No. Well, I have news for you. That's not actually her on the bike that so that makes a lot of sense. A hell of a lot of stuff. She also doesn't know as much about motorcycles as they pretend she knows in this movie. You think movies aren't real? I'm saying that she is a fucking idiot. What a happy note to end on. Alrighty, well, so excellent film here. weird ass film for you. It was a movie. You know, I had the concret this week. And so when I do that, I like to watch shitty movies and this fit right into that category. I can see that'd be perfect for your like when you're coughing and you're feeling crummy and you just lay in there surrounded by Kleenex and saltines perfect. I actually do the really cheap. Like 99 cent pizza. frozen pizzas. I do this by know many people who do finos Yeah, the worst. Like, this does not taste good. And yet, here I go at another one. Yeah, when I saw the 60% on Rotten Tomatoes, I was like, That's very generous. To figure out who's like this movie enough to somebody out there was like, I managed to get all the way through and didn't hate every minute. I kept thinking, thinking there is no way this got even one positive review. This has to be my first 0% film know someone out there. someone's like, you don't want hot chicks. Hot chicks on bikes. My life is complete. Alright guys, I think it is my turn for the next sub genre. And we like to occasionally highlight actors or directors or something like that. And this time, I think I want to do a Christopher Walken episode. Oh, imitated man in Hollywood. That's right. I expect to hear both of your Christopher Walken invitations.
