Oh, I'm sorry, did I break your concentration? Somewhere between science and superstition? To show you Strange Aeons. Welcome Strange Aeons radio. That's Eric over there is no doubt that's Vanessa over there. Good day to you. I'm Kelly. Remember a couple weeks ago when I got off of Facebook. And the reason that I did that was mostly because I was just tired of all the super hardcore political posts, the pandemic stuff and all that. Well, a friend of mine reached out on messenger. He shall remain nameless. But he, he did say, Hey, man, are you on Facebook? And I said, Yes. And He's, uh, whoa, everything okay. And I said, Well, I just got a little tired of the the hardcore politics and how nasty it was getting. And he said to me, yeah, man, if I didn't have you know, stuff to, to promote, I wouldn't be on here either. And the irony of this is he was one of the guys that made me feel like I had to get off of Facebook. Because he was just so militant about Look, if you voted for this particular person, then go ahead and unfriend me. Now that kind of super self aware. Yeah. And on top of that, I'm not gonna unfriend you. I probably didn't friend you in the first place. You have to search me out. So you got to unfriend me. I'm gonna make you work for that shit. Yeah, that should unfriend me as always one of the more annoying. Yeah. I mean, it's like, you know, throwing your, your toys out of the pram, right. It's like, man, so angry. I mean, like, I don't know, I I realized that I probably posted a few more than I should have. And it was almost all out of pure frustration. And I kind of realized that I should not even do I mean, I try really hard not to, but I got into a fight like last week with like a little old lady on like, my island Facebook group. And I started like, yelling at her text. And like bringing it like I wrote tirades and I, I paused and she kind of responded with Oh, I actually wasn't saying that this thing was good or bad. I was just mentioning it. And I was like, Look, I am so sorry. I have a lot of stuff that up. And then we started trading stories about like, the harsh cities we've been experiencing with COVID and how we both Miss like our loved ones. I was like, this really became a sweet moment. And I felt so bad. I was like, I got it. I can't I can't do this. This is everyone's people underneath it. Yeah, yeah. I mean, it's really interesting because Facebook is is so vile, and it works exactly as it is designed to work. That's the worst part. Yes, it is set up to make you so obnoxious like you. Like you're scrolling through the video feed and you stop on a video. Like one time I stopped on one of those awful extraction videos. Like whether dig in a bug out of somebody's ear or something. Oh, no, no. And I watched one more where do you see that again? Guess what you're gonna see again and again for quite a few weeks. Like oh boy. Yes, the alcohol knows your secret wants, like, at all I was like nope, he might just try to make me shop very hardcore, which is irritating. I have recently watched one of those minimalists Netflix movies and I was like I need to like get rid of and then I realized I'm getting about 20 emails a day from like my favorite companies all telling me what to buy as like I need to unsubscribe does it work on you? Do you buy the stuff oh yeah like I definitely go there sites sometimes I buy I always put stuff in a cart. I don't know that I always buy it's bad though. I should spend way less in my life putting things in carts on like freight rags episode brought to you by Friday right? Instead of a movie I'm going to start out with something else this time you guys I have picked up so you know the do the Marvel epic collections which are these gigantic collection of the various issues, sometimes as many as like 25 issues to tell a story or something. And I decided to pick up some of the x men stuff at long after I had stopped reading. But but still within the time that Chris Claremont was right. And I, quite honestly was horrified. I was like, This is bad. This is really bad stuff. After I guess the mansion had been destroyed. Xavier was often space or something. And the x men were presumed dead. And we're like invisible on cameras or stuff like this. And like, Oh, no, this is really bad. And I started getting very disappointed. And then for some reason, a light bulb went over my head. And I went back, and instead of getting the stuff after what I was reading, I decided to get this stuff from before I started reading. So the Roy Thomas and Neal Adams are versions of the x men from the mid 70s. Yeah, and I've been so delighted. The Epic collection that their their run starts in has maybe 10 issues before they get into it. And those issues are rough. Not not very good. This just knows this pretty giant size. Yes. Okay. Yeah, this is this would be like issues 50 you know, afterwards. But once Roy Thomas gets in, it gets pretty cool. And there are a couple issues that are done by Jim steranko. And those issues are like, crazy. I'm not sure if you're familiar with who Jim Stanko was, but he was a really important advertising artist in the 60s. And he did. I mean, his stuff is all over Marvel, and it's crazy looking ship, a lot of psychedelic images and stuff like that. It's just really cool. So So once that happened, I was like, Wow, this is amazing. And then Neil Adams comes on, we were even talking about Neil Adams not too long ago. And he just brought a level of realism that hadn't been seen in comics before. And when he moved over to marvel, he basically told Stan Lee, give me your lowest selling title, with the idea that they would let him do whatever he wanted on a title that was gonna be cancelled if he didn't save it. And it turns out dn Roy Thomas saved it for a little while. Oh, my God, and his art on that is just spectacular. So Vanessa, if you guys are interested in early, excellent stuff, you could do a lot worse than picking up the epic collection that Roy Thomas and Neal Adams. Yeah, I'm always interested in getting into the x men comics. But I'm, it's so hard because it's like, where do you even begin, like, I have the Joss Whedon run. And that was what my age like entry level was into it. And I don't know, I just pick up random things now. And again, and like I don't know what this is about, but I'm reading it early. Chris Claremont was really good. It was some of the best comic book writing going on at the time. At the time. I would say that if you clocked in at just Sweden that you're going to not like Claremont writing. Yeah, that's why I yeah, I wish I I do wish I liked the older stuff more. And I feel because I just started so late. Like even with Batman, I started around frank, I was given Frank Miller to begin with. So it's like, I've never really had like a lot of the kind of earlier, fun, more cartoony feeling, stuff that's like bigger, and then life kind of stuff. I've always had the dark, realistic thinks so an excellent, it's just, there's so much to it. Oh, yeah, there is. All those bad off issues, and the four issue run off? Well, and then I picked up, you know, when they relaunched, I don't know, just a year ago, or something with the New Mutants and all that again, and I picked those up, and I was so lost, and quite honestly, you know, it's just like, Oh, you know, I sound like an old man. But this is not the x men that I loved. Not your father's x. Definitely is not. No, definitely. I mean, that's how I always feel. But I did hear like, I saw that comic in like the top 10s of almost everybody for last year. So I don't know. It looked intriguing. But yeah, if you don't have like, 100 years worth of history, I feel like you're just pretty lost. I'm like, Where's Wolverine? Have you seen that over here? Oh, yes. So we've been talking a lot about one division and Marvel and I, there was a show that had kind of passed me by and so I went ahead and just dipped myself into the The first two episodes of it, which was Agents of SHIELD. So when does that get good? Isn't it like into season? Two? Yes. Yeah. Well, the first episode is actually pretty strong. Yeah. And I just I had no idea that it I guess I think I knew at some point but Fred forgotten that it has the Weeden esque pneus to it, because it's got jaws on the first one, and then shed on the rest. So there was a lot more fun to it than I expected. And I enjoyed that it had some dark twists and turns. But then like the second episode, it already started to get pretty near you could almost skip. Well, I mean, oh, no, because remember, we're talking like 22 episodes a season or something. Yeah. So the problem is, there's so much that happens with and there's a certain people yeah, it pays off towards the end of that first season. Yeah, yeah, there's a couple twists. You say dark twist. It's got a dark, dark twist. That is really good. Right. But it takes a bit. Yeah, I you know, I always need something on in the background. So it can be my background show for a really good for that until Yeah, it's good. Yes, exactly. And then I'll care. Yeah. It has some shockingly bad episodes in that first season. Well, I, I look forward to hearing what you think. Yeah, the problem is, like Season Two has a couple episodes that are shaky and everything. But then it like, starts getting really good, right about the time that its ratings just tanked. Right. And so they were, you know, trying to figure out how to wrap everything up, and they do some really cool stuff in the last two seasons. Oh, yeah. last season's really good. Yeah. I mean, it's, I feel like I'm kind of every once while I'm like, What do I watch right now? I need to be I need something. So um, yeah, so that seems like a good thing to dive into. We'll see if that's good. Well, I've watched something very, very different from the two things if you're talking fairly new film just came out. promising young woman? Oh, yeah, I'd heard about this. Watch it. Yeah. It's a form of a rape revenge story. Okay. With that, it, but it starts totally different. It's not like she gets attacked and goes on a quest thing. It's, it's a very different take on it. And what's your name? The Carey Mulligan is phenomenal. In the lead. She's one of the better parts of the movie. Or the best part of the movie, which is good because she's the lead. And it's some it's pretty good. It's a goes places I wasn't expecting, which was very nice. It's by signing up for like Golden Globes and stuff like that. So apparently, people are liking it. I thought it came out this year, though. So I guess I maybe did some qualifying run. Like, hey, we showed in one theater. I didn't say I like I thought I just started streaming or something. Where's Yes. Is this on prime? This is? Yeah, no. Well, it's not probably one of the in theater kind of rentals. So it's like a $20 rental. Yeah, but I was surprised by it, I thought is just incredibly well done. Oh, that's awesome. I am definitely gonna check that out. Tell me this. It feels a little bit like a homework movie. No. Okay. It is. There are aspects I could see where people would go like the black Christmas one I talked about, where it has kind of those ideas, but they are presented incredibly well. And they're not. Hey, look at this. I can see here this idea to get this. But it's far more about what she is going through. And it's just well executed. It's just a really solid film that feels like it should be a message movie, but really isn't. Yeah, I think that was my biggest fear. I was not that it's like bad to watch message movies. It's just exhausting. And after the you know, year we've had it's just really hard to be like yeah, today I want to watch something that's really harrowing and going to take me on a emotional and very lead journey. So I might do that. Like that. But you know, like we're in it's like almost like a moralistic tale. It can be a little bit. I don't know. I saw a message movie and Vanessa, you are the one who gonna showcase this for me. skyfire Yes. What is the message? messages? This movie is a piece of shit. Oh no, you really hated it. I didn't hate it. But it was bad. It's bad. ridiculously I enjoyed it. I enjoyed it a lot. Yeah, I mean, it was. I'll say this it was 10 times better than Greenland. Yes. I wouldn't say it's like, I mean, I wouldn't say it's phenomenal. But it was what I wanted. right then. I wanted just Jason Isaacs trying to convince a bunch of people that volcano is fine. It's, it's such a ridiculous premise. Kind of hard to get behind now. Now Jurassic World, you could kind of believe that because it's like, wow, the majesty of these creatures is of course, you're gonna bring a bunch of people here. This is a a vacation resort. inside of a volcano. Yeah. It's like it's very much sold to, you know, like high end, like watch buyers. And I'm thinking to myself, who would ever come to this? This place is packed by the way extremists. And people who love to bungee jump as he pointed out to us. Those people yeah, yeah, yeah. No, I think I'm, I think I'm good. We'll go for two out of three. I've seen sky pleasant. Skyfall. Sky fires. James Bond. Not to be confused with me now. It's bad. I just yeah, I found it extremely enjoyable. But again, you know, your time travel is my disaster. You know, I don't know what has to happen. Last crack at synchronic. Finally, you geostorm I gotta see that. I don't know that you should. Now. It's not. It's better or worse than, say skyfire. I mean, it's, it's less fun. But it's more accurate. But not. It's more like I'm science and we care about science, versus God's fires, like, science is really pretty secondary. It's all just a facade. It's like a piece of clothing we try on, if I recall correctly, the premise of geostorm is that there's so many storms coming together that it's like a geo star. Well, they're the entire world, right? There's a suit. Well, there's a piece of tech in the sky that now controls all storms. Because in all the weather, because we are at such a point where we've like destroyed our weathering systems. So we're now relying upon this like network of crafts, like satellites to keep us in check. And somebody takes control. No boy. Yeah, this sounds stupider than Skype. Yeah, I don't think you're gonna do buildings get knocked down and shit like that. Oh, absolutely. Okay, then I'll probably like it. Yeah, no, no. Because while this skyfire was so silly at one point there, tram, leaves leaves the rail, slides down a, a mountain side, and it's just picking up speed and picking up speed. And these people on the road below it realize, oh, if we don't stop them, they're going off the edge. And so this tram, which is the size of a city bus has got to be rocketing down that mountain at about 50 miles an hour. And the car comes stops and it t bones them and just stops right there. and beautiful. Everybody is okay. It's beautiful. I mean, I'm on the leaping out of one tram and trying to jump into the other without hitting a poll. I did like the guy who got hit by the poll that was pretty good. Yeah. A lot of stuff a stupid it's unbelievably stupid. But and and you are not lying. I popped myself some popcorn. I sat down, I was done with my popcorn. By the time all of the production company logos. There must have been 50 companies involved. Everyone in China was really into this film. They're like, I will put my money in this. Yes, I'm sure it's a huge success. Well, I hope so. Can't wait for skyfire to Absolutely. Um, well, I watched an older film that was recommended to me that I had not seen and hadn't literally no idea existed. And that's a virtuosity. Oh, yeah. Yeah. And Russell and Russell Russell as a raving shirtless madman who is also a like sentience graphic and I think so. 3d printed man pretty sure I did. It was a really good, it's not too bad. It's really, it's really fun and Denzel. I was like, I don't know, everybody was playing against the type I'm used to seeing them in. And so like just seeing even seeing Denzel and dreads I was like, you're majestic, sir. Yes, dreads more Dresden's? The whole Yeah. And watching Russell Crowe just be like, fucking in sane and evil and having a great time. And yeah, it was. It was good. It was really fun. I remember liking that. Yeah, that was before either of them were who they were gonna be. Yeah, that's, that's kind of the impression I was getting was that neither one of those people would ever agree to be in his phone now ever? No way. Definitely not. Russell needs to he just wants to keep singing. There's some really fun ideas in that. I saw another one. Is it 2021 but I saw it like last week. So I wasn't part of your 20 days wasn't it might have been. It might have made my mentions though, if I would have made the left but a bloody hell. not heard of it at all. I have heard of this. And I keep waffling back and forth on whether I want to watch it. It's pretty fun. Okay, so guy, innocent bystandard in a bank robbery. But he captures one of the guns and ends up taking out most of the bank robbers and accidentally killing by standard. And since he's not a cop, he goes to jail for like eight years or something. When he comes back, he's kind of a world famous. He became like a tabloid story. And so he's dealing with all of that besides to go on a vacation. His vacation, he gets kidnapped by a group of accountable family basically. Oh, that's unfortunate. I am in the basement and things proceed from there. And it is in key house. One of the key fun parts of the film is he's got his his subconscious is portrayed as a real person. So it's, I mean, it's him it's the same actor doing both. So he's back and forth, playing off of himself, which is a lot of fun. And it's just damn fun movie a lot of kind of gruesome kind of nasty, some ridiculously way over the top stupid shit. That is not bad kind of stupid shit, but okay, that is a lot of fun to see this ridiculousness happen. And it's I think it's shutter, or prime or Somalis? Okay. It's definitely worth checking out and just thought it was a lot of fun. I mean, the premise sounds rough. So I'm glad that it's I don't know that sounds interesting. The way you are saying it's fun. There's, there's some brutal violence in it somewhat, but it's not it's more akin to like the guest maybe or something like that, where they're fighting violence as opposed to it's not torture porn or anything like that. Okay. Very cool. Would you say that it's approached as kind of comedic or not quite comedic, but the guy is funny. Okay. The interactions he has with himself are done with a real tongue in cheek. Yeah, goofiness. I think that's that would sell me on it. Like that idea of talking to yourself. Sounds pretty great. It's pretty fun. Oh, cool. I'm putting that on the list. Please check with your parents before you call. We have returned. And you guys this was my sub genre pick. Yes it was so I'm gonna go first. I picked a fucking winner you get I'm kind of shocked from 1989 The Phantom of the Opera sums stories have so great a power that with each new generation, they are reborn the work of an artist will make use of the world feel free to go away Phantom of the Opera the all time. Classic Phantom is real. It has a name is now a major motion picture is in your house. Robert England is the Phantom of the Opera. Who's the music by? Interesting you should ask. Budget I could not find any information on this had a box office of about $4 million Rotten Tomato critics have it at a 38% the audience has it at 53% this was directed by Dwight h Liddell, who directed Halloween for which is probably one of the best of the Halloween sequels marked for death and rapid fire with Brandon Lee. And Free Willy to excellent. Everybody should direct at least one free willing movie. I don't think there's enough free willing movies for everybody to do that. I think there could bounds on how you define Willie. No, no, no, orcas Orca is only in that case of directed a couple of y'all. Hey, you guys, this was written by Duke sand. Who wrote the film's neck or not ghost town and dark justice. based of course on the novel by guests on the row. Got an interesting side credit to this is a Duke Sandford wrote this based on a screenplay by Jerry O'Hara, which I will get into. But a lot of names for property we know so love and love so well. Well, especially when the credit comes up, written by Duke sandefur. And then followed by based on a screenplay by Jerry O'Hara, how and when you're watching a movie. You're like, Well, why didn't they just use the screenplay? How many layers you gotta go, guys? Well, we'll get into that. This stars Robert England. You would know from dead and buried galaxy of terror and the adventures of Ford Fairlane. Oh yeah, that's my favorite. Gil Shaolin. Who is in the stepfather who was in popcorn, and who was in when a stranger calls back. And, and, okay, there's one more. Alex hideway. enough to tell you about that. Yeah. Roger Corman's fantastic for Battlestar Galactica, Captain America to death to soon. That was the 1979 TV movie. This also has, in her very first role, Molly Shannon. from Saturday Night Live Wet Hot American Summer and Talladega Nights and is just a comedy genius, and a very young looking Bill Nighy who is in every film we love. Oh, that's crazy. You guys, this movie is fucking great. It's super fucking cool. And it's weirder than shit. So it starts in present day Manhattan and we meet Christine day, a young hopeful opera singer. She auditions for a part in this very old theater, and a sandbag falls from the rafters, knocking her unconscious and shattering a mirror deal. Following Sam Bay, Gehrig, am I right? The old man issue. She wakes up in London at 95. Wow. All right, we are now wearing opera clothing. And she turns out to be the understudy to the diva laka Lata who is both jealous and resentful of Christine skill. Wow. So she just kind of wakes up into this past life. Wow. She there's there's no mention of this stuff that happened in present day Manhattan or anything like that. And we just go on to the very typical Phantom of the Opera story. And it's really kind of at first it was kind of jarring. I was like, oh, okay, she's gonna go back in time now and everything. She's got to figure out how to get back to her time. But she's got zero memory of this. She just starts her life off where this film starts off. And it was like, oh, okay, well, I wonder how that's gonna come back. She can sing. She can sing like nobody's been nice. Excellent. So she wakes up basically on the floor of the old theater and this sandbag and mirror had happened at that time, too. And so she's like, oh, and everyone's Oh, you Okay, Christine? And while they're messing with her during this up in the rafters above is Eric are the Phantom who is Robert England. And he is threatening a stagehand up there who is, you know, hood, fucked up and drop that sandbag. So we know who Robert England is. And we know what he looks like. And this is clearly him, but he's made up to look very different than just his face. And he doesn't have the horrible scarred face of the Phantom. So it's like, oh, what is going on here? But he is clearly the Phantom. The stagehand knows who he is, and is terrified of him. And of course, he ends up killing that guy. Sure. Yeah. I mean, that's what stagehands are for. So from there follows very closely the story of the Phantom of the Opera. If you've seen the movie or the musical, or the movie of the musical, then you know that Christine has been taking secret private singing legends, lessons from someone she refers to as an angel sent by her deceased father. And he's basically been grooming her to take over parellada position in the theatre company. And to ensure this, the Phantom scares Carlotta to the point of her screaming so loudly that she screws up her voice and can't sing that night. And so her understudy has to come in. And the way he does this is he takes that stagehand and skins him, ah, and puts her puts him in her closet, and he's still alive. When she opens the closet. He's all strung up, and he's like, scared, so now you know why she was screaming? Oh, my God. Oh, that's awful. Yeah. So that night, he's sitting in his private booth that they reserved for the Phantom of the Opera Hall. And the company is doing a production of Faust, and as he watches, Now, keep in mind, His face is not scarred or anything like the Phantom as he watches. He then has a flashback memory to him as a young musician, and writer of music, and he makes a deal with the devil, of course. So this has suddenly takes a very supernatural twist. And he reminisces about a time decades ago when he sold his own soul to the devil in exchange for people loving him for his music. But the devil, being a real dick Sure, grants his wish, but then disfigures his face to the point of you know, horrific scarring and all this stuff. In fact, he looks quite a bit like Freddy Krueger. Yeah. And he tells him that people will love his music, but nothing else about him. Yeah. So we are then shown that instead of making or wearing the classic mask that the Phantom would wear, he kills people and skins their faces off and then sews new face masks for himself. Yes, it's it's pretty gruesome. So So, all of a sudden, I'm just like, well, this got weird and supernatural and I kind of love the idea of this. So continues to follow the basic story with an old love of Christine's showing up and wanting to know more about her Angel. And the Phantom going off and killing a reviewer who gave her a bad review on her first night though, at this point, the Phantom basically kidnaps her, as we all know, and takes her to his underground lair, and he offers her musical immortality and the chance to be his bride, which he basically accepts. But it's very obvious is because he's terrified of him. Sure. I mean, that's how all marriage proposals work really, right. There's nothing here that's particularly new, or anything like that. I mean, it does actually follow the very basic story of the Phantom of the Opera. And there's climactic third act with the police and Christine's former lover, finally trapping the Phantom in his lair. But he kills the Phantom kills the old lover. Wow, and the police officer. And then she's forced to kind of save herself, which is a nice touch, a little different. So she sets the place on fire. And in doing so she smashes this gigantic mirror and wakes up in present day Manhattan after that mirror had broken. Well, convenient this year. Remember, as she vanishes, she hears Eric's voice the Phantom screaming her name, Chris. Why did I hear that Paul Stanley's twice? That should have been Gene Simmons voice. Have you heard it? Just so people? Oh, I thought you were going Christine 16. Oh, it's pretty excellent. Kelly and Kelly made a very good hand gesture. That was a big Oh, great. So different hand gestures in appropriate, so she wakes up and the the secret of producer of this theater that that there this new production comes rushing up. And it is the Robert England that we know. Oh, and he is oh my goodness. What happened? I'm so sorry. And that's okay. It's okay. I'm sorry. I screwed everything up. And he's like, you didn't just screw things up. You've got the part, just one way. And he says, Hey, why don't you come with me? And we're going to have drinks with the investors and show you off? And she's like, Yes, indeed. So on, they go back to his apartment and he pours them drinks and everything. He goes upstairs to change. And as he's looking in the mirror, he finds a blemish on his skin. And he's like, what is this and he starts peeling away at it. And we realized, ah, this is still the same fucking Phantom. Of course it is. He supernaturally can last forever. And he he slides open this super futuristic little case and it's just got a bunch of skin faces that that look like they've been you know, cryogenically kept when he goes to put that on. So this is almost the end of the movie and I won't tell you how the actual end of the movie goes, except that I loved it. I loved I loved everything about it. Right. Oh, man. So, a little bit of trivia. Let's get right to that weird screenplay based on a screenplay. Yeah. So the script was originally written by Jerry O'Hara for Canon films and was set to be directed by john Whoa, who directed twins have evil, the legend of hell house and the watcher in the woods. So kind of a, you know a cool gothic horror thing. O'Hara's version of the screenplay did not feature any present day segments and was set entirely in 1881 England. However, after canon filed for bankruptcy, the film was passed on to 21st century Film Corporation, which was Menachem Golden's film after Golan Globus you know split up 21st century planned even before they made this film on a sequel to this film, called Phantom of the Opera to terror in Manhattan, in the present day, Manhattan Oh my god. So television right a Duke sandefur was hired to add bookend segments set in present day Manhattan to O'Hara script so that the film would tie into its proposed sequel. Ultimately, the sequel was not made, but the bookend segments remain in the film. How kind of crazy yeah, I mean, like as somebody who is obsessed with the soundtrack of this through all of high school, and like religiously, listen to it. This is fascinating. Well, and also it made me wonder he had to have done Some other significant changes to be listed as the main writer instead of just you know, screenplay by Jerry O'Hara and Duke sandefur. So as a fan of the Broadway production, as I am as well, the original music here is written for the film by Misha Segal also known for the soundtrack to the new adventures of Pippi Longstocking. Sure. And it was a 1989 Brit for best soundtrack. And it's really fucking good. And it's really fucking derivative of songs but like slightly different. No, because they're, they have a feel that if you are a fan of the musical, you would be like, Oh, this is good stuff. It doesn't sound really anything like it, but it kind of does it sound alike. Or it brings to mind that music, which is very interesting, because the final credit on the screen, this motion picture is not associated with any current or prior stage play or motion picture of the same title. 1989 Phantom, what did that come out? 86 Yeah, it was big still. So yeah, yeah, I gotta say, I love this. I don't understand the super low critic rating in less. It's just because it's kind of gory. That would probably be a lot for like a kind of mainstreaming concept film. Like taking a beloved property and then making it a little bit rough. Yeah, it's a really interesting direction for for Robert England to take. Yeah. So I just really, really enjoyed it. Like I said, the music. Don't take my word for it. It got a Brit for best soundtrack. 89 that's, that's not. That's not for a movie that did nothing. Right? No, so flat. Yeah, let's, uh, yep. I've had several of the songs bouncing back and forth. And my dad watching this. It's been his favorite. Musical. I think I've seen it live like five times. Yeah. It's spectacular. Yeah. And it was just a massive flop to I think it killed 21st century. Wow. Well, I'm thinking Gosh, I I chose a film that is kind of a personal favorite of mine. I came across a couple years ago and just adore it. That is 1989 cutting class was just another ordinary dull and boring semester at borley. High attention faculty and students. This is Mr. Dante your principal. The classrooms were in disorder. As of today, you're suspended. relationships were impossible. And the teachers were in but this year was going to be different. I was going to teach them that. No one ever. By the way, Frankenstein staring at you. Every day was in the hospital every single day. How could they do that to one like I really do. The Paula. alone. Try. What is this? survival class? Please, everyone stay calm. Kids are missing. A teacher is missing. We stay calm and we'll all be dead how to understand English. Was it a teenager in distress or a murderer in disguise. Jonathan fields cholan Brad Pitt, Roddy McDowell and Mark Mo. You don't die. Die. Cutting class. School is closed. So my phone, I feel like there's something in common with mine and I just can't put my finger on it. I just I, there's a couple things actually a couple. I mean, I mean, I don't know, I have an actress who I will get there. The Rotten Tomatoes for cutting class is 25% critics, which is really low. But I will say there were only eight people who reviewed it. So those eight people just had a bee in their bonnet. However 22% audience and that had 2500 they agreed with those AP. Right on board. The budget is question mark. I have no idea could not find out. The director is Roscoe Pelham Berg from England. He wrote Excalibur? Nope. I wrote exorcise to the heretic last night and was creative associate on deliverance. He's only associate No, no, that's not how a pig squeals let me let me guess let me let me stand in for the Petcare. Okay, hold on. So he's only directed two titles, which is also exercise two and cutting class. So not not a lot of directing. But the writer is Steve Slotkin, who is the creative hand and heavily involved in every way shape and form with salute your shorts. Which explains so much about this movie. It's unreal. As soon as I saw that, I was like, yeah, it is like a really put together like fun teen ridiculous film. Yes, that'll come together now. He's also also produced and voiced Dr. Kahn's voice. Oh, yes. Okay. That's part of salute your shorts. And he also was part of Power Rangers Ninja Storm running in the halls and USA. Hi, as a producer, well, the people who are in this movie, it's got a couple of really interesting names behind it. So our maybe maybe not crazy villain guy. Hard to tell is Brian woods, who's 30 he's been in 34 things. He's English for an actor and documentary maker, member of boy band camp Freddy, and founding member of Neo glam group. Nancy boy. He's the son of pop singer, Donovan Leitch. Oh, she's He also played Paul Taylor in the blob. He was in glory as Charles Fessenden. I haven't seen Gloria zona. He was also in I shot Andy Warhol, and recently in birds of prey TV series as Malcolm. Recently 20 years ago, I don't know I put down recently. I'm not sure is there a more recent birds of prey TV show? Film can't be recent either. Right? I mean, it said TV nine. So yeah, yeah, I don't know. He was also in 2008. Dark Knight uncredited. And he was on one episode of Sex in the City. So yeah. We have a secondary and male lead in this film. Little little known actor. I think you know what, he's got some he's got some good in him. Dwight is played by Brad Pitt. This guy has been in like 81 things, I guess. 60 producing credits, so he's been around. You might remember him as van Usher and Deadpool two. He voiced will the krill and happy feet to and he was in one episode of Tales from the Crypt where he played Billy in King of the road. He was also in one episode of Freddy's nightmare TV series and one episode of 21 Jump Street. He also let's not forget, played partygoer and preppy kid at fight uncredited in less than zero. Sure, yeah. So you know like he's got he's been a lot but I don't know that you've heard of them any old man Pitts boy. And last but not least, actually, there's a big cast in this but I don't want to go through too many of them. The the love interest in this movie though. The the girl that Everyone's fighting for is the character polyp played by Jill showman. She played Christine in some movie. She was also Mary Piper and boys and Toyin Julian when a stranger calls back she was in popcorn and one episode of TJ hooker. There you go. She was also in one episode of mercy row. Everybody's in like one episode or something. Never heard of her. We also have Roddy McDowell, and this movie, he plays a Mr. Dante it's a really unfortunate role, and I'll get more into that later. So this movie is it's definitely a hidden gem. I think it's a vinegar syndrome release. Is it shopfactory? I saw it today for some reason. Yeah. Okay. Yeah. Also, vinegar syndrome doesn't release good movies. Why? No, I mean, but sometimes every once in a while, it's like, Hey, wait a minute. I mean, I own it. And it's amazing. So the story follows. We open with a newspaper, newspaper boy delivering papers to the same houses over and over and over again, because this is low budget. The paper spins over and you see it reads boy who killed father released. So we're starting off with some kind of kid who went to prison for killing his father's now going back into high school. One of the papers falls at the feet of the very well known and important district attorney. He just keeps being referred to as you're just such an important guide district attorney. He's fully retired in some hunting gear and his daughter, snatches the paper away from him and tells him he can't read it because he'll just find no reason not to go on his two week hunting trip, of which he is apparently a very bad Hunter. Before the father goes, he tells Paula his daughter, that there are just three rules while he's gone. Do your homework. No boys in the house, and no cutting class. Barry shoehorned in moment Oh, dang. And I was hoping that when he said that the title flashed across the screen. Fortunately, the title started up ahead. I wish it had happened, right. But that's okay. You know, it's it's, it tries that's what matters. So, Paul is an average teenage girl who's working really hard trying to get good grades, also has a hunky hunky boyfriend white, aka Brad Pitt, though, she does start to make eyes at the new kid who happens to be the one who had the schizophrenic breakdown and resulted in him cutting the breaks of his father's car and murdering him and going to a mental asylum. And already kind of having like, you know, moments together where there's, there seems to be some kind of unspoken chemistry. He buys her a hot dog and she's like, How did you know? You said, you just had that look on your face. I will interrupt because I must show that I was full of shit. Oh, it is vinegar syndrome. Oh, hey, shit. Yeah, I wasn't crazy. Well, when I said, Really? Then I forgot that it was 22%. So yeah, not at all. I'm going to say I enjoy this movie. And it I do think is a hidden gem. But we'll get into that more later. So Dwight, her boyfriend is a super popular athlete, surprise, surprise, blonde, gorgeous. And he looks down on Brian who actually used to once be his best friend. He sees that Brian clearly has the thing for Paula and he just starts to torment him with no end first by. They're in gym together. And he just starts spinning this rope that Brian is climbing up until Brian falls over. And of course the gym teacher misses the whole thing and walks up to him. We were worried. frickin messing around kid. Give me a zillion push ups right now. So it's really one of those kids versus authority films where it just comes up again and again. Again, all the teachers are crazy assholes. So the odd things start to happen first with Paula's father who's out on his hunting trip when suddenly an arrow appears out of nowhere pointed right at him and dunk right in the chest. Oh, well, he gets killed falls straight over the head first into the pond. Oh, cut away back to the school. So Meanwhile, at school, we see like Brian's really having a hard time fitting in. Meanwhile, Paula has some really weird interactions with various teachers. She's a model for one of the for the art class and Dwight's like, please, I don't want you to go. I feel really uncomfortable with you being in this class. I'm like what's happening? And she's like, No, no, okay, it's fine. I'm doing it and she walks in. to high school arts class and starts taking off her clothes. Like teachers, like get out of your dwarves. Like immediately is like, Alright, so today's class we're gonna do the forum where we're going to look at this muscle group, bend over girl, and has her immediately bend over and everyone starts to draw her ass. It's so creepy. It's really I mean, she's she's in a like leotard so she's not nude, but it's still completely upsetting. And there's a lot of touching like a lot of the teachers, the principal, also played by Mr. McDowell, Macau. Macau at asks her to come into his like office, because he has a gift for her, but it's on the floor. So she needs to bend over to get it. And of course, she's wearing a very short skirt, and she bends over and we all get to see her underwear as well as him. And he's kind of very obviously leaning and looking like very pleased with himself about this. And she has gotten a school uniform. Sorry, a new cheerleading uniform he has pitched in to get them all new cheerleading uniforms. And she is just thrilled. Oh my God, thank you. And he's like, Well, why don't you go ahead and try it on now. I'll turn my back. And she's like, No, no, you're gonna see muted tomorrow, Silly Billy leaves. So well, all this weirdness is going on. People start to kind of turn up dead in various places, of course. So I'm the art teacher falls into a kilm thing, a room that's like a heated kiln, and it goes up to 500 degrees. Then we hear him screaming. So he's baked. We have a couple of students who get pulled like underneath some bleachers during a game and they're their throats are cut. There's some really interesting deaths going on the vice principal who gives various students that we are hanging out with some shit. She gets killed by photocopier where her head is just slammed again and again on this photo copier as it makes copies of course of her styling. So of course, now everyone's aflutter who is behind these murders. And everyone's specs that has got to be Brian, because he's the crazy schizophrenic weirdo, who's just come out of prison. He's very Leary's only word worn one outfit this whole time. He's in almost every scene hiding behind something. I'll get into that list later. It's very extensive. But to white, his ring was seen in the photocopier printouts. So maybe, or it could also be the crazy janitor. Feel like you didn't mention the case. Janet glossed over. I didn't really get to him. Yes, Kris Jenner, who's just always like yelling at the kids and be like, I'm going to teach you a lesson on things like, I'm going to teach you oh my gosh, if I can, if I can quickly find this quote, you guys. It is absolutely wonderful. And about how long it takes I can make it seem like it was quickly. He says, there is there's a time for real manners. And I'm gonna, I'm gonna teach you show you show to say please, and thank you. I'm the only teacher that you'll remember. I'm the custodian of your fucking destiny. And then they say that man is fried. I just love that line. The custodian of your fucking destiny. That seems just a little too clever. For a custodian. Oh, yes. I mean, everything he says is either gibberish or like completely stellar lines that just make no sense. Um, yes. So we now have a team up right so Brian teams up with Paula to avoid Dwight who clearly is the real killer. They're running around the high school like hiding away. He's gained her trust he like broke into her house and like she was like, Oh my god, you're gonna kill me, aren't you? And Brian's like, No, no, I'm not crazy. And here and he's holding scissors. He's like, you take this and you stab me. If you think if you think I'm the one who did this, you stab me right now. And she's like, I know. She's like, I can't and then of course now they're BFFs so they're running around the school together. Meanwhile, Dwight is back on a Saturday to gym class. Because he did not show it to gym class. in uniform or in whatever Do you call that gear gym gear gym clothes. And so the gym teacher who's a dick, as we established is like I'm going to fail you unless you come back on Saturday and do some gym needs. So I guess they're there. And they have a big fight at each other and it results in Dwight throwing his gym bag very angrily at a trampoline and it kind of trampolines onto the trampoline and back off again. And then he grabs it and goes to the boys locker room. And of course, then the gym teacher gets up onto the trampoline. And while he's waiting for to wait to come out, starts trampolining around like middle heavy guy. And it's just like doing backflips and horror flips and on his belly, and then we go to POV American flag, which is underneath the trampoline that's very sharp, large American flag. weaseled its way underneath, you know, wiggles back and forth and then boop. In our Coach's Eye, shish kebab. So obviously Dwight did that. Meanwhile, like I said, Brian and Paula are running around school trying to find white trying to warn everybody that he is the killer, when all of a sudden, Brian x is the math teacher in the face. Surprise and vinegar syndrome makes more sense now. It really switches gears pretty quickly on you. Oh, and then she's running obviously now from Berlin who the guy who's creepy and creepy and super creepy. The whole time was the creepy one. It's beautiful twist. I love it. I love that they let us off for so fun, but pretty poorly. Anyway. So of course Dwight jumps in he saves her there ends up being this big old fight out in the shop costs. We're literally Brian, like presses like two buttons. And every single machine in the shop class turns on and a fog machine. Like I don't know that all shop classes come with fog machines. Boy Howdy. It's a dance party. It's there. They get into they kind of end up duking it out with some standards. Until Brian puts Dwight's head in a vise much like my last home that I talked about. Unless Paulo will love him. So Paula promises she will and they start to make out while I'm while Dwight's head is in this thing, and they're kissing and she goes, just close your eyes. And he goes, he starts to close on me opens up he said, I don't trust you. I'm not gonna close my eyes. And she's like, if you believe that, I love you. I promise I'll never hurt you. Okay, closes his eyes, hammer through head pushed into saw. Very beautiful, very good. It has a nice kind of continuous ending with Paul's father showing up. Yes, yes. After getting shot in the chest. And after not being rescued by dogs. And after almost being I believe hit by a car. There's a whole journey that this man goes on throughout the film. Is this a comedy? It really is. Is this supposed to be? Yes, it really is. That's what's good about this film. So okay, for example, the things that Brian hides behind in this in this movie. All right, he hides behind during art class, a statue, the statue falls falls over. It's a woman with breasts. He grabs the breasts and holds on to and tries to continue to hide it before he gets kicked out of the class by the art teacher. He hides behind a trophy case let's see through. He hides behind some chairs. He hides behind an open car glass window, where he's just standing there staring at some people in the car, and then kind of shuffles his body down below the door. He hides in a garbage bin and he hides behind and this is my favorite. Oh, water cooler as somebody goes and gets water. Yup, this waste. It's kind of magnified behind it. It's so good. The music I don't know if that's the right word. It's so knowing the bad. It knows exactly what it is. And that's my favorite thing about this phone it it leans into itself super hard. It's incredibly low budget. It's really stupid, but it knows it's stupid and there are just some great moments in it. There's some really good dialogue There's some great depths throughout completely insane lines and obvious villain that I just can never get over that he is, in fact the villain. There's our twist. There is no twist. There's this ever going saga with the dad that they just keep coming back to it feels a lot like better off dead. It's just this joke that just keeps happening. Um, the music knows where it's at too. It's really fun music including like when that flagpole death happens. It goes into this like patriotic anthem. So beautiful. Um, but there definitely are bad things. And I want to make sure that people understand this. It is God problems. It is a vinegar syndrome title. The leering teachers, it's incredibly uncomfortable. They never address that this is super, super bad. And they do play into the sexiness of the moment. It's really frustrating and seeing her underwear multiple times with her bending over was rough. The I'll be the judge. Yeah, that's kind of that's kind of what happens. The other frustrating thing is the moral of the story is one sensei and always insane. So pretty damning on anyone who has like mental illness. It's like, Oh, well, of course, you're crazy, and you'll never be better. There's a lot of bullying that I mean, the bully wins, ultimately, and he's the good guy. The principal never dies and really should have because he's horrifying. That also the principal and the art teacher look identical. So when the art teacher dies, Don't be shocked when the principal shows up. And you're like, wait, I thought you did know they just are both older white men with white hair who are about the same age height and build the girls unfortunately in this movie are leading ladies of is super bad. She's not a good actress. However, I would say Brad Pitt is actually super good. And a lot of this film as you know, there's definitely a lot of poorly executed stuff. It feels pretty rushed through some of it. But yeah, just a couple of small pieces of trivia shot in four weeks. Gil Shaolin did not want to do this film. She actually turned it down several times. But because she didn't like the script at all, however, her agents convinced her it would be a smart career move, because Roscoe Helen Berg was an acclaimed writer, so your shorts, and this would be his director debut. She mostly took the part up because Ronnie McDowell and Martin mole, were in it and she admired. Jill said, Helen Berg, the director was nice, but a pain to work with. He would do line readings that hurt, which Yeah, it's very, very much a No, no. The producer Rudy Cohen didn't care for the casting of Brad Pitt. So the tractor Roscoe Pelham Berg found for young women who all said it was gorgeous, in order to convince Cohen that the casting of Pitt was correct. How long did that take him about as long as it took him to find four young women? Just kind of look around. Hey, there's anyone anyone good looking? Yes. They're all agree. Um, during filming, Brad Pitt actually flashed a passing car. On a break between scenes. The police showed up on set to question him, because the driver reported indecent exposure. Funnily enough, and Gil Shaolin and Brad Pitt met on this film and eventually became engaged, though they were never married. Eli Roth was inspired by coach Harris's trampoline, implement death and used it in a photo trailer for thanksgiving for Grindhouse. And last but not least, music by Andy playboy. Like I said, it's super fun, who also did the soundtracks for Chad to the butt of Chad and Chuck Norris is the Hitman Rhonda vinegar syndromes fast there's only 961 copies left what's out? I mean, by the time I got there, all the special edition copies were gone, so I didn't get the cool cover. I got the normal cover. You'd get the special slip case I did not get the specialist makes very nice. What they do is tricked me into so many bad Phil. I own a lot of regretful films. But I own some great ones too. I don't it's hard. I'm gonna call bullshit on this entire film because no gym teacher is going to want to be at school on Saturday. And be like, Look, we'll figure it out somehow, but to do this week, and last thing I want to do is see you fucking assholes for one more hour that I have. It will show up if they need to be there as an excuse for death. Let me tell you, it was it is so unrealistic and so Oh, by the way, One other fun fact that I wanted to mention no one in this entire film cuts class. I just I really had like, I was like, especially like the main girl she never once cuts class they won't break into the school after school. Do not cut class. The creepo kid is kicked out of a lot of classes but he doesn't cut class. Brad Pitt gets really drunk and does daytime daytime drinking but it's not really said he's cutting glass. So that's a if you one. Just Just want to put that out there. Well already I guess I'll go next. Unless someone else Yeah. All right. Well, this was the one I looked up. That's actually a chat factory. Oh, okay. 1990 threes. I'm sorry. I screwed up on the year. I got a different year. When a stranger calls back. It began like any other night until a stranger stepped out of the dark. Reign of Terror begins. Inside the house without seriousness, she's badly traumatized or delusions just too much for her she's coming up and leave her show. She hasn't created something that isn't there. What is happening is real relations are getting pretty hard to come by. Don't mistake those things in the terrifying thing is he knows you don't. He will go after someone else. I'm sorry, sir. There seems to be some problem. Charles do stranger calls. The Rotten Tomato on this is 57 critics 55 crowd which when I first started watching, it seems a little harsh, but as I watched it go I think I know where that came from. This was technically a made for TV, but it was Showtime. So it was content that you would not see on regular, saucy. Well, you know, that means boobs. It's not terribly violent or anything. So I remember Showtime in the 90s. I was not allowed to watch it because of the boobs. bibs, directed by Fred Walton who directed when a stranger calls and April Fool's Day. But yeah, rather fun films. also written by Fred Walton, who wrote along with Steve feck, who wrote c fac wrote all three. And Fred Walton was involved in writing at least two of them. Steve also wrote makin me and the beastmaster TV show. Yeah, I think Fred might have helped him so much on this. Okay, this is star All Star stars. This DARS Carol Kane, you might know her from when a stranger calls. Or the Muppet Movie. No taxi cheers transferring 65,000 and because of her voice, a butt ton of cartoons. And then we tend to exactly yes and Princess Bride. And Charles durning, who was also in the Muppet Movie, and wonderful role in a TV show called rescue me. And like 260 films a lot. And Jill, how do you say your last name again? I don't know. So I don't wait, wait. Wait, wait. Really? Oh. Three of us have Gil chalone are these I say oh my god. andolan is? Oh my god. She Christine infantum. Yes. So she's the lead? Yes. In all three of the films. Oh my god. Wow, she had a good run. This is a what are the friggin? But anyway, so she was in cutting class. Oh, a Phantom of the Opera plates popcorn. And the stepfather movies we have showcased on this. And Jean liftout plays in the bad guy who's in the usual suspects as cop on the pier. And er as cop seems like he might have a type Yeah, okay, so the movie starts off with my first thought is cast this is made for TV music. So this is okay, we all know when a stranger calls has one of the best opening 20 some odd minutes in film Ben's ever Absolutely. And this is comparable, the opening of this one is done differently. And that it's not a phone this time the phone doesn't work. Initially it does, but then it doesn't for a while, and somebody shows up at the front door with I've got a problem with my car. So you never see him because she you know, smartly never opens the door. Keep the suspense that's built up by Fred going and the she lies to the guy. It's like oh, call the call the car service for you. Of course the car. The phone's not working, but she's not going to tell the guy at the door. That's false, not working. So she lies and says they'll be there an hour. Guess what happens An hour later. So he comes back in and hey, she does check on the kids though in this one. That's really nice. Kids. Wait a baby said, yeah, this still worked. I was very happy with watching it again going. Okay, this really works. I actually watched this one first. I saw this quite a long time before I saw the original. And I think in a lot of ways it works a little better than the original. There's one key reason why it doesn't. And I will get there. It's still it's a little more melodramatic than the one especially when she finally realizes what's going on when the guy kind of comes out. It's like, what's with the Frankenstein pose dude. Working back and then five years later, she shows up with complaints about something going on. And Carol Kane is there playing the same woman she was in the original. Who immediately Of course believes that these weird she just what? So I started calling them by the actors names Carol and Jill. And part of the way through the movie I realized Carol Kane's character is named Jill. Oh my god. So just so y'all know, Jill, I'm referring to is the performer Matt, the character. Carol is Jill. So Carol and Jill are the actors method worker, she's started talking, she starts to describe how she lives in a sparse apartment, she noticed that a book had moved or her alarm goes off at 3am. And all this happening over weeks time. It's not happening like three days in a row or something happens over a long period of time. So of course, the cops are over. But Carol believes and this is this these two scenes breakdown for me why the film is a little bit rougher than the original. Jill's describing all this stuff. It's like Oh, that sounds creepy, and it's bad. And she leaves the room and Carol Kane describes why she believes her and her description is freaking harrowing. Like this. Okay, this is her talking about what this girl just told us is scarier than her telling us originally. And when you're with Carol Kane and Charles durning it's going to show what the film though does so much better than the original is in the writing. The opening scene happens. She goes to the cops, and most of the rest of the movie is Charles and Carol trying to find the guy. It's not following the guy to try it following the bad guy to try to make him seem sympathetic. So that works so much better. As I said, How is like the worst part? Oh, yeah. This poor guy? No, no. Just said he ripped the kids apart with his hands. I'm not gonna feel bad about this guy ever. So that I think that's part of the reason this works. It works better directing and acting or as storywise The problem is the lead acting just kind of falls. So by Carol cycle, you should get a gun and learn how to use it. And Jill tried to kill herself with the gun. Or does she? And another incredibly well done creepy scene, the killer visitor in the hospital bed where she's unconscious. Jill's unconscious at this point and for the rest of the movie, which was a good call. I wonder if that was originally in the script, or if they just kind of wrote it in. But he sneaks into her room and is standing at the end of the bed and Carol walks in. And as she walks in, he slowly steps back and disappears into the shadows. And it's creepy as hell. It's really well done. It's it's beyond me. Well, Fred hasn't directed more stuff because his ability to direct suspense is top notch. So Carol says some stuff and leaves and the bad guy comes out at this point kind of going. Is this. Is he obsessed? Is this a unrequited love movie? Or is he just kind of messing with her sort of gets answered, but he starts this this really strange scene he just kind of like pokes at her stomach a couple times and pokes again, and when she doesn't react, he starts hitting her harder and harder. It's Incredibly unnerving. And you find out later on, and this is where you go, okay? It's an obsession thing. Charles finds some photos he'd taken, which he didn't take during the scene, but, and there, she's exposed, shall we say during some of the scenes? Okay, well, this seems like a little more. He's obsessed with her as a sex object and just stay messing with her. boobs. Yeah. Go find way of pronouncing things okay. After this, we do get the short thing of why have a little train, try at least just maybe a scene or two to get some sympathy for the lead guy, or the lead villain. And he's a ventriloquist. He's a ventriloquist performing in a topless bar. who booked him? And it's dark. His ventriloquist act is this dark, disturbing look at the world and he pulls up his doll and the doll has no face. Like, oh, it's relatively. It's a It's a neat scene. But like, he's like, he goes back and he's got it. The guy yells at him. And he's like, well, you're gonna clean the toilets now and nice strippers nice to him. It's kind of an point, like the original habit. It's only like a scene and a half. So it's quick and done. But it does set up a nice thing, which I'm kinda like this is bordering on blackface. But he's not performing any kind of thing. He just paints himself completely black. So when he's doing the ventriloquist, and he wears all black, he disappears in the shadows. Which of course, when Charles shows up trying to find him, he runs into an alley and the guy disappears into the shadows. He does find his place and that's where I find that the photos and stuff. Very strange design moment in this film. For some reason, Carol's apartment door opens outwards. Doors don't generally open. It's got a nice ending set for one kind of problem. This is why think maybe Fred did a rewrite. She's a Jill's not in it. I mean, the entire thing is Carolyn Charles dealing with the killer. Here, okay. So it kind of the end ending, not the climax, but the ending is Carol being pushed into a hospital bed. And Charles like, I thought you'd like to have some company while you're in here. And it's, you know, Jill's over there and she's doing better. So you know, it's got the made for TV movie ending. But overall, nice suspense enough really good suspenseful scenes to keep this movie worth watching. It's got two or three more than the original and it doesn't have that. Damn, you're gonna like this guy segment. The the big downfall really, unfortunately, is just performance. I think that really, really hurts the movie. Enough for that rifftrax did a take on this film. Man, it ain't that bad. Although, you know, Carol is intense enough that I think you could make fun of her level of intensity. And hey, this was in 1993. Can you guess what city was shot in? Vancouver? It starts up and he's like it's a Seattle. It does kind of look like Seattle. Oh, no, it's just the city that looks like Yeah. And one of the key things for me as far as watching the film, I thought the original must be half an hour or more longer. There. They have almost the exact same runtime. But the sequel is moves at a much better pace. Much more fun to watch. So our chill festival. Three pretty good films. Yeah. I will say I did see that film. And I don't remember a lot about the second one. Aside from there was such a good. Yeah, really creepy scene of him wandering around her apartment and like disappearing in and out of things. And it was really Yeah, I remember it being very affecting. Yeah. Yeah. It does some stuff really well, what it does well, it does really well. I am so convinced that you have already spoken about this film because I've never seen it and everything you said I was like, yep, yep. Yep. I've heard you talk about this. I feel like because you did the first one though. Yeah. Talked about the first one. I probably talked about the second one at that time. I don't think I'd done it as a least not in our records I could find as I did it as some kind of a double feature in our very early day. There's gonna come a time where You know, one time one of us is just gonna completely do another film, and none of us pay enough attention to know that we had already done it. It gets kind of hard. Because like, I mean, like, I'm kind of visually going through your guys's films as you describe them, but watching it later sometimes I'll be like, Oh, wait, what do you did describe this movie to me. But it doesn't always connect to like, right there. And then we go through a lot of movies. So that's what the documents for guys. Oh my god. Ours ours sent me an invite so I can see it. Again, again again. Well, alright, that was fun. I I'm gonna have to title this something to do with Jill Jones. A very special episode where that's right. Eric, that means that the next sub genre is yours. That is right. In keeping with the joy and fun of it and stay. I think we're going to talk about toxic relationships. And these are generally my kind of thinking is these are relationships that the people in the movie may not know are toxic, but we sure as hell do. Sure. Yeah. Okay. Awesome. That's a great topic. I'm sure Jill has been in a movie or two that has gone on to look for that. I mean, she certainly is easy on the eyes. Ya know, a pretty girl. She's a very pretty girl. Yeah, I've seen far more of her than I care to be alright, with this one. I don't think you see. I don't think that's actually her. And those photos, it's definitely a body double. So I'm definitely interested in Phantom of the Opera, though. That sounds awesome. It's, I mean, your mileage may vary, but I, I feel confident that you will like it. And I think the music is. I mean, as I was watching it, I was like, This music is good. I gotta hunt this soundtrack down. Nice. Okay, so that's the show. Thanks to everybody who's always liking and sharing everything. And we were talking. What is this the last of our lovers in the air? Well, the next one will be that's what I mean. Yeah, so that'll be the end of the end of February. Good luck. Like on the beginning of this episode, I'm really enjoying by the end of this. Well, I'm a little chilled out if I'm being honest. I did not expect that. I mean, I knew yours because it came up in my research, but I did not realize somehow Oh, well. That's so funny. You say that because when you were listening to the movie shoes, and you mentioned his movie, I think I didn't realize that that was the movie we're doing today. Like if that part had slipped past me like I write I write them down when I first and picking stuff so don't pick the same as yours. But yeah, beyond that. It's a fun surprise for me. Come on, guys. I have rabies. letter was gonna cut back up. All right. That's the show. We'll be back in a week and we'll see you then.
