That laundry has been sitting in the washer since Wednesday. Oh, no. That's, that's not clothing anymore. And that's a bio Dido do my laundry here. So I don't care. But it's like, you know, there used to be other residents here that would use it. And and these guys just, they will also leave shit out there in the hallway. You've seen it? VCRs for some reason. A big look like the leaf of a dining table. Why? And I know, it's just like, hey, do you guys kind of know how this works? in unity? Are they like, what kind of age range are they in? A younger than me, which is just about everybody, but 30? Oh my god. So they should know. They're not kids know, if they were 18 year olds, you could maybe take them aside and say, Hey, I get it. You've never lived with other people. Yeah, but these are people who now I do know talking with the guy. And he is admitted to me that he has some kind of handicap. And that might be why I have had to have a talk with him about drilling things at three in the morning. Weird. But that doesn't sound like a handicap. I'm just gonna throw that out sounds like a certain kind. But now when you get from genetics. Obviously I was really trying to wrack my brain. I was like, What? What possible disability would result in that? Stupid has a disability I think. I mean, I literally, I had been complaining, you know that I have had problems with the people down stairs, the new owners. And I thought that they were doing construction in the middle of the night. And I complained to the property manager and she assured me they were not doing that anymore. And I kept hearing this. We're drilling sound. And so finally I go storming down there at 4am. And there's nobody down there. And I'm like, Am I crazy? Maybe this and as I come back up to my unit, I hear it again and it's coming from my next door neighbor, right? So I pound on his door and he answers the door holding a power drill. And I said Hey, man, you can't be doing sorry. We all just and we by we I mean you and I Vanessa just live in the most boring place. really do look, I pay a price for having this kind of artsy fartsy apartment. And that price is you get weirdos. Oh my god. That's insane. So I'll put it out there now I haven't made it public but I am now currently looking for a new place to live and I'm slowly packing things up so we will be moving the Strange Aeons radio and if you have a room he could use maybe a bed just to bread to share you just let us know. I believe the final episode of the second season of creep show was the episode with oh you haven't watched it for three weeks now. I will not this week's I mean last week's or if I think was the final with Justin Long Did you See that and the horror Express? I have not seen. Yes, yes. Okay. I finally just saw the first two. The first season the second season. Okay, I just jumped right in. Yeah, not too bad. The last episode I liked a lot. Although I have spoken to a couple of people who thought it was shit. I was like, ah, maybe I'm just not expecting as much from it as I was. And that's why I liked it so much. But it incorporates footage from the movie, the horror Express, which I fear. So I have a seagull right out there. You're really upset cuz you said you were leaving? And you haven't told them yet? Right? Who's gonna feed us? Cheerio hook up going away, I thought was pretty good. The the problem that I had with it was he became so hateful. I hated his characters so much. But Tales from the Crypt is that's not really a problem. Right? But yeah, that was hell of a season. Man. I like the season so much more than the first. Yeah. And it, for sure is not great television. But I felt like they kind of figured out what they did wrong in that first season. So well, I just finished the first season of something that was recommended to me by you, Kelly, which is Harley Quinn. Oh, and it is one of my favorite all time. Not surprised is coming back for third season too. Nice. I'm kind of putting off watching the second season because I enjoyed it so much. I don't want to like plow through it and have nothing left. It was just so wonderful. So well written and the female relationships in it. And I guess I just mean Harley and Ivy feel so authentic. That it It blew me away. And I was looking through the credits trying to figure out like what females were on board and there is like one female writer on the team, which I thought there'd be more because it just feels so realistic. Yeah, I just I just loved it just absolutely loved it. Me too. Yeah. Yeah. It's one of those things. I think Mike Davis from the Lovecraft easing kept telling me Are you watching the Harley Quinn cartoon? And I was like, no. I watch important thing so and that was probably the most satisfying thing. I watched all your gossel is really good. No, yeah, I am not. Team Harley Quinn. I have generally have not super enjoyed a Harley. Except for really recently. I do like the latest. The latest movie of Harley Quinn. And I like that they make fun of the most recent version of Harley Quinn in the Batman white knight comic, I think. But yeah, this was like this really blew me away. Yeah. Pretty good. I was nothing remotely related to anything like that. I'm surprising you never do this weird documentary on Arrow. Oh, called skull world. Cool World, okay. Directed by Justin McConnell, who did a movie called The collapse which I screened to crypto con many years ago, I think was like the second year of the festival cool. And follows the life of Greg summer, aka scholar man, as he builds the Canadian chapter of box wars. And I don't know these words. Box wars is something that started in Australia by a bunch of guys who basically put cardboard all over themselves and beat the crap out of each other with cardboard weapons. Okay, this sounds very bad. It was great. Really, because it's not about that. It's sort of like you know, King of cons is not about Donkey Kong. This is about that guy in the world he lives in and he's a weird over the top and tense. The kind of guy he really wanted a party for about 10 minutes. And then he like, we're done with you now. Please go away. So he the spacing of the storyline of him doing variety of weird little things sorted to get more or less known. But then he discovers these box wars and gets completely into it and builds these incredibly elaborate cool cardboard armor and being sort of like the what's the group that gets together and recreates like d&d, live action, sort of LARPing kind of like that, but they don't really get that elaborate with the storylines. They just kind of get together and beat the shit out of each other. And they have little rules of what you can and can't do. And it's actually a lot of fun. It's really good. It did well enough that while they're shooting the documentary, he did well enough with his chapter that they were talking to Canadian television, for doing it to do a TV show based On box wars, which didn't happen, but what's the name of this again? skull world skull world. All right, and what did you watch the arrow? Oh, shit, I got to get air box. That's another one of those really cheap ones at least I watched on shutter the power. Oh, how is it slow but good, genuinely creepy in parts it's based I like the title because it refers to two things it's based on back in the 70s in Britain, they were, you know running out of power. So they would actually schedule citywide blackouts and this woman is wearing or not wearing but working in a hospital during one of these scheduled blackouts. So that's the power in one sense. But there is also a ghost in this hospital that is trying to get a clear message across to her by possessing her and doing some very creepy shit. And so that is the other the power in this story. And it's it's got a grim story that you can kind of figure out where it's going and you know, there might be some stuff there that would trigger some folks, but I thought it was very well acted. And I I didn't love it, but I liked it enough. And you know, I feel like shutter just keeps on throwing up pretty decent movies. Thank you shatter. Yeah, I was I was looking at watching that one. I've got that on the list to watch because it did look pretty good. Because sort of like was it starry eyes? Where the woman's in the police station alone. This This didn't give me any of that kind of you always do this you're thinking of I know. I know. That's not the rash shift or something like that. But yeah, it is kind of like that. It is a bare bones skeleton crew of nurses weren't on there. It just, but it looks great. I mean, it doesn't look like an indie film. There's I believe I watched last shift and starry eyes at the same time back to back. And they had similar posters or something at the time and stars on the eyes and then the last ship I think has a pentagram or something. Yeah. You know, and then neither one was good enough to be distinctive. Or sorry is kind of lukewarm on it. I liked them both, but I didn't. Anyways, wow, what else my PVC. Well, yeah, speaking speaking of shutter, I've definitely been watching some of the Joe Bob stuff. Sure. Yeah, I'm actually a couple weeks behind unfortunately, because I keep having life stuff come up. But it it's been interesting because he's had some guests on that have been pretty cool. So the first episode he had Eli Roth, commenting on both, both of the films and Eli Rothwell. I don't like his movies is such a like eloquently spoken person. And really, really smart really knows what he's talking about loves horror. Horror about that. Yeah. So one of the movies they talked about was, was Mother's Day that Eli Roth had, like insisted be played at his Bar Mitzvah. Yeah. And he's like, really into it. And as they were talking, he realized he'd like, stolen a bunch of stuff without quite realizing. And he's like, wait, oh, I did use this in this movie. Pretty fun. And then he, Joe, Bob did have Jeff or Yeah, Jeffrey combs on it. I think it was two weeks ago. So yeah, it's been a little bit of a different approach. You know, you're feel like you're getting a little older and stuff when Joe Bobby generally does weird obscure films what I think of but he's like doing gingersnaps he did D Jones or smart class me. So that's now a weird, obscure film. Well, I think that you know, it all. It all shifted when he got picked up by shutter. So he's got their library too. And I don't think that he could just normally get the license to show something. gingersnaps Yeah, I think the ni anytime he does do something that's not part of shutters library. I think he has a list of films he'd like to do to see if they can get the rights to do so. That's been my impression. I mean, it's a great film. Sure. It's a great Well, yeah, I mean, he did. I think the first one he did this season was audition. So okay, yeah, I hadn't seen that in a while. And I was like, Oh, I remember has like one bad bit and I was like, Oh my God. Oh, my God, the whole fucking film. Well, I guess I think of Joe Bob mark, because I haven't watched a lot of his stuff. I love his writing. I've read A lot more than I've watched. But he always feels more like he should be doing. Not quite Mystery Science 3000, but something closer to that, where he's like, comment. He's taking really, really obscure weird stuff and pointing out what's good about it or what's making fun of it. And neither one of those films like, although he's knowledge of film probably makes it very interesting. But those are both great. Well, yeah, no, he does. He really brings weird stuff. Like he talked a lot during audition about the guy who's in the bag. And like the, the, like his whole story, and like how he like method acted, and he like really prepped for the role and all this crazy stuff. So he still does bring a lot of really interesting content. But the only thing that bothers me I think about the job series is he's clearly not watching the films in real time. Because sometimes he'll he'll mentioned something be like now in that last scene, blah, blah, blah. And I'm like, that's not what happened. I'm like, I just saw this a second ago. You know, I I don't watch the shows live. But I love that I can sometimes pop on to Instagram or Facebook, and I can see a bunch of people talking about it in lifetime and I'm like, this is a neat thing that people get share. Oh, yeah. Yeah, it's so yeah, everything around it is just so well intentioned, and the male girl they have Darcy she's just a fan of Joe Bob. And I guess she is the reason why it exists. Like she approached him at a convention It was like, please, you have to do this and she helped broker the deal and she like she's behind so much of it. I think it's mutually beneficial for both shutter and him I mean, basically brought him out of fading away. Yeah. Gave shutter a nice big punch in the arm. So that's really cool. Well, what I watched would probably be more what I might expect Joe Bob to talk about. Maybe not quite that good. That mutilator aka fall break. Those are So interestingly, oppose they love it when the titles just are like so different. So different. So as I'm prime from 1984, I don't know why I watched it, or were chopped up from but you know, sometimes something pops up here. If you like this, you like that? No, probably not. But okay. The whole thing is about a kid who accidentally kills, commits matricide. And then above him, it is a bunch of his friends go up to the house where he did that and find out that maybe he wasn't so successful and killing his parents. It's painfully 80s I mean, painfully, painfully, so it's not 80s in a good way. Oh, no, I made in the 80s or 1984. Gotcha. There's too painfully 80s that I'm thinking about Yes, very, very true. But I mean, I could see where this has a cold following. It does a lot of things right. It does some fun kills. It does some weird stuff. It's just got that what the fuck is wrong with you moments time and time again, and it does the old Hey, let's go look over here. I'll go look over there. You know, just the, the bad parts of 80s crap that we make fun of. not quite there enough to be so bad. It's good. So it's just like, if you're a slasher completus it's definitely worth adding to your list but who not? I wouldn't seek out hard for the mutilator or fall break. Wow. Wow. I will be not watching. Yeah. Well, how do you guys feel about taking a little break? And then we're coming back? It is spring though. Why don't you leave the jokes of the funny people. It's not here so I got to try. And say, let's do movies by this particular person. Yeah. And it was, holy shit. He's done a lot of films. So many god, he's been working. He's basically been an actor since he's been alive. Yeah. And a lot of his content is good. Yeah, I think that's like the this stark contrast to a lot of people who have like, you know, 150 credits or whatever, like, his movies are like so notable. But I think part of what makes it distinctive, too, is he's a lot of people have 100 160 credits are secondary actors or third level actors or something, but he's very often the lead or the second lead. He's usually a big part of whatever movie he's in. And, you know, and this might just be a public persona, but he's so goddamn likable. Like, Oh, you know what, even though I didn't love this movie, he was in it so that made it good. I mean, he I think he's actually my favorite actor at this point. Oh, yeah. I hope that he's listening. Probably make him feel good after after tag him on his whole thing. Twitter make him feel hashtag the real Kurt Russell. Well, I picked a well it's sort of him going back to his roots. Because you know, he started off doing the computer wore tennis shoes and stuff like that. Well start even before that, but 2005 sky high will just want you to know how proud I am to be attending mile monitor. From the moment we'll stronghold started high school. He knew he was in for the ride of his life. Here we go. Welcome to sky high. You are the descendants of the world's most legendary superheroes. All he wants is to live up to his family name. My parents are the greatest superheroes on the planet. But he's not sure he's got what it takes to step up here and show me your power. Hero. If you don't make hero, you just society. Or you would say that's all I ever wanted for him was to save the world. To transform himself. We can't change who he is. without dropping them in a vat of toxic waste. Where we even find a vat of you have to test his limits. You have three minutes to mobilize your opponents and save the citizens. Remember when we used to use real citizens and unleash with their strong he's super strong. Walt Disney Pictures. discovering his powers was just the beginning. Great because the heroes of tomorrow will have to save the world today. My old enemy always swore he'd have his revenge on me. Put my dad down. The sky is the limit. Sky High boy has super strength sorry you are strong. This one's on Disney plus one. That is not something we reference very rare. I have watched so. God damn many Italian rape filled nasty movies. I'm going to I'm going to do a fun freakin movie. And this is fun. Yeah, I like this movie. Rotten Tomatoes as I said 73 for critics and 57 by crowd for you. Okay, whatever. Budget no funds no a budget of 35 million and did 87 million worldwide. Not too shabby did fine. This was directed by Mike Mitchell, who you might remember from Shrek Forever. Forever, forever after, oh, trolls, and the Lego Movie too. So, you know, the usual kind of guys were rattling off here written by Paul Hernandez who wrote something called turbo dates. Bob skoolie, who is best known for New Kids on the Block TV show when I didn't even know such thing existed. And the I think it was the 90s Swamp Thing miniseries, which is another thing I haven't seen. And Kim Possible, which I haven't seen, but I'm aware of Mark McCorkle, who's a writing partner with Bob. They basically were almost all the exact same writing shoes. Stars Kurt Russell. From Hey, Captain Ron. Once I wrote down, Dennis the Menace, Gilligan's Island and lost in space, I remember his Gilligan's Island episode. I don't know, man. He was a kid, wasn't it? Was he a kid or was he more of a team? Yeah, he was. He looked like himself. Yeah, he wasn't a kid. Oh, and a lady who unfortunately lost in 2020. Kelly Preston places why well, that's right as she died at 57. You probably know her from Jerry Maguire Tales from the Crypt. They listed from dusk till dawn. Her and I do not remember. I wonder if that was the TV series because I don't remember her from the movie. No. Not in the movie. Daniel punna Becker, Killer Frost on the front on the flash TV show. justified and something shark TV show not Shark Tank. And a couple others Michael and Toronto who's an almost famous This is us. redstate 24. Steven straight who was in the covenant. And the expanse TV show. Is that regular? He's like one of the leads on that 50 some odd credits on that. So this, this is a heavy, deep plot film of which you have never seen anything like before. Dammit, I keep saying the opposite of what the movies are. This is a fun film. But you know, this movie and the storyline by heart unless you just started watching movies. It's opens up with a comic book panel, a panel describing how Kurt Russell and Kelly are the superheroes of the planet. They are the most powerful duo of superheroes watching over the planet. And the stories about their son getting ready to go to Sky High, which is a superhero High School. Yes. So a little bit of Harry Potter concept going on here. Vanessa, have you seen this movie? I have not. You should I yeah, I'm like really excited, just like hearing about it. Because I thought it was gonna be some garbage movie. This my, like, two minutes and I've got the note. This is gonna be a fun film. And it's one of those ones of probably falls into my I think they had the title before they had the movie. Yes, but it really works, I think. Yeah, this sounds like something I'm gonna watch with my mom. Oh, yeah. It's team based. Yeah, I mean, Kurt, Russell and Kelly are in it a lot. It's not like their secondary, their secondary leads, but they're in it a lot. So basically, Sky High is a secret high school that's floating in the sky that Ron these name is the bus driver takes them up to it's an interesting trip to get there. The class got some great cameos right off the bat. We've got Linda Carter in here. She's the principal. And Bruce Campbell is the basically the gym teacher. They have to they have to decide if their powers are heroes or sidekicks. So they go in and Bruce has them show whatever their superpower is, and if it's hero, or a sidekick, like the kid who turns into a pool of slime is a sidekick while the police are coming to pick up and then while the kid who spits is a is a sidekick until he sees he spits acid hero stuff like that, and they do a few of those but the embarrassment for this kid is his parents are known worldwide as the most powerful superheroes in the world and he his powers haven't manifested yet. So he has no power at all. But he gets he gets to hang out with his psychic friends and buddies because, oh, all of his friends are psychics even though What's your name? The lady from the flash definitely is not a psychic power. She's basically poison ivy but She doesn't use her powers. Unless she has to but and his dad doesn't know he hasn't manifested because he's pretty he does these fakeout things to make it look like he has real strength and stuff. So he does dad doesn't know. His dad does the Oh, I'm so proud of you thing and shows finally takes him to the secret layer when he was just about to tell him that he has no powers yet. So I mean, this is very, very trope filled. This is right. Yeah, it's a Disney film. I don't know another thing that came to mind watching this movie. I don't know if either if you ever read the xanth books by Pierce Anthony Yeah. Okay. It's kind of like that where the world of xanth is. Everybody has magic powers. But is your power something really cool? Or is it like you can make a spot on the wall? This film has a lot of that going for it? They've got the dickhead bully guys who of course already have their powers and the rebel guy whose is he bad? Is he good? But he's brooding and hot. And of course his his powers are flame via the he's got the confession to his dad when he finally confesses how he's a psychic. And, and of course, he's gets in with one of the popular girls because the hottie senior likes him and they do the homecoming thing, which leads to him having a fall out with his older friends and stuff. So it's all there. And it's all fun. And it all works perfectly fine. So yeah, like their party at the house where everybody Oh, it's just a small gathering, of course. Next scene is 100 some odd people wandering around his house and but his sidekick buddies didn't get invited. But they find out about it. Yeah, it's just yeah. And eventually his side, his powers do come in, but they don't come all at once to do a fun little thing, the way they play that and the I'm not gonna get into a lot of detail about it. There's actually some pretty good trivia with this film, but because it is everything you expect, and I mean, the final scene is a formal dance. I do love films that end with a dance joy. Find out wait. Yeah. Is she gonna ever get his powers? Yes, they manufac they manifest a couple times. He gets he gets well his dad has super strength. And his mom can fly. Will he get one? Or will he get both? So so as you can see, like my notes for this are really simple because it's it was a combination of two things. It's so basic, that you don't need to write necessarily a lot, but it's also so much fun to watch. I find myself going Oh, I should probably Yeah, take some notes here. It's it's definitely a kid's movie, but it's super cute. They have this was before the Marvel movies really kicked in. So the suits they're wearing. look kind of warm. It's very thick, almost vinyl looking stuff. I don't know what it was. Kurt Russell had a cooling system and hit him with tube water and circulates to cool Kelly Preston was able to unable to have one because her uniform was too tight. And his was definitely buffed out. Because he's he's a little seen when he's got a shirt. It's got like a little little dadbod going on in this movie. But his his costume is Hello I am so far powerful. Apparently there's weird references to real world stuff where it's it's a bad idea when sidekicks costumes clash with Heroes is supposed to be a jab at Batman and Robin, where you can their costumes don't go together at all. And he was a sidekick the teacher talking about it was a sidekick for Kurt Russell. So he still has his all red white and blue uniform because that's what curtain Kelly both wear red, white and blue. Each of the main characters to follow that have a color scheme throughout the whole movie, their son, his color scheme, his clothes are always red, white and blue. Laila, the lady who controls plants is always green. Of course, the bad guy who's fine guys black. Sure, there's some magenta who's always purple. So every single one of them has a color scheme, which is kind of nice. The first Disney movie that was not offered on VHS Oh, was it like a DVD or just didn't? Disney realized that they can. We can't do our clamshell boxes or whatever. We can make zillions from that. This is not the first time that current Also has played a superhero. He played a superhuman strength character in the strongest man in the world in 1975. That's right. They put there's a phone number in the movie for a realty company which is actually was at the time a rogue working number that if you called said thank you for calling ABC the numbering of ratio is a fictional nonworking number used for Motion Picture and Television Production. Oh, how interesting, which is kind of cool, but doesn't exist anymore. Like Well, why not? Because that 555 is just that subtle. Zap out of the movie moment. But during the making of the movies, all of the teenage actors had their own trailers not because of the because they had big budget maybe they wanted that the production wanted to keep all the teams separated, so they didn't start dating and maybe break up during production. And apparently, it worked. Good. So Oh, my guys rule had to be enacted because something had happened, or regular occurrence. I was gonna say they should do that with the adult. film crew altro. Mitchell the director is a sci fi fan admitted that this project was kind of a dream for him because it brought together a bunch of his favorite cult film actors. He had Linda Carter, who was originally supposed to be wearing gold bracelets. But Warner Brothers I think, who held the rights at the time said no, you can't do that. That's really firm ridiculousness. Disney then said you know what, fuck you. Let's buy Marvel not have this problem now. And of course, Snake plissken is played by Kurt Russell ash from Evil Dead played by Bruce Campbell. And Cloris Leachman not because of the Brady Bunch because he loved Young Frankenstein was just going round blue. That's a sign 2016 Disney announced that they're going to do a sequel. But obviously, that never came about. There's also been talk of doing a regular TV series, which has also never really come about and obviously Kelly Preston, well can be involved now. So at this point, it's sort of looks like there's not going to be anything done, but you never know. It's Disney. Oh, that's, that's a bummer because this would be the perfect time for them to do a TV show. Especially with I mean, superheroes are ubiquitous right? Every my mom watches the Avengers movies. And this kind of stuff is just ripe for picking apart and making fun of you know, right now. So and it means being done by the boys but it's being done like in a really raw caustic. Yeah, parents manner. This could be like a fun version of Absolutely. Yeah, good. Good call. Nice tech for sure. And like yeah, Kurt Russell. This is I just love this topic so much. He's ever so dreamy. I'm gonna call this Kurt Russell Parwan. Yeah. I love it. Um, yeah, I mean, I grew up with Kurt Russell in the household, my mom, Kurt Russell and we we saw overboard, nanny, nanny and bird on a wire. I don't know why bird on a wire, but many times bird on a wire. So I've got overboard pretty much memorized. I chose for my Kurt Russell movie, the 1996 film, escape from LA. I chose this one because it is the only john Carpenter movie that I haven't really seen. Oh, I didn't know that. Yeah. Wow. Part of the reason why I have not seen this is because I was going through my whole retrospective of watching all of them. And for this one a friend had invited me over. And to watch it, and at the start was like, hey, like, do you want to get high? Now, I would like to make it very clear that I don't really do drugs. Like that's not it's just not my thing I drink but I don't do drugs. Now I get it Your mom's listen. Because my mom is gonna hear this. So she's gonna now know. And I'm sorry. But I was like, okay, sure, why not? Like, I'll do some weed or whatever. I don't know what your weed sounds great. I don't know anything about it. And so like if I was offered a thing, and then I didn't do a good job on how you approach the thing. Was it an edible? You mean? No. hype? Oh, and yeah. And so I was like, oh, okay, sorry, and did it again, and then looked up at my friend whose eyes had like tripled in size and when you did too much. I was like, Okay. And he's like, okay, let's just find a spot for you to sit. And so I sat down, and they put in this movie, and I was really excited. And then I was furious, because I could not keep track of anything. And I was like, locked in, like, I couldn't move. And I was so pissed off, because I'm not good at losing control. And this is why I shouldn't do you most drugs, because I need to be in control. Like, to the point where I was miserable. I was like, I need to watch this movie. And I care about this movie, and I can't see anything. And like, every time I look at something 20 minutes of best and I don't know if I'm listening to this, and it sounds to me, like you're exactly the type of person who needs to do trust I am such a miserable take about it. I was pretty pissy about this whole entire situation and never really forgave my friend about this and was really I was sure that I've kind of seen this movie at least a little bit. But rewatching it I will say the I remembered one scene. And the thing that happened in it did not happen. I was so sure that I saw her Russell surfing and high fiving a shark jugs bad kids in school. They will only ruin Kurt. Kurt Russell john Carpenter movies for you. So don't have the heartache that I went through, please. Um, so Okay, let's get into it. Um, this movie has a Rotten Tomato score of 53% from critics and 39%. From audiences. That's generous on both counts. I was definitely surprised by the critics. I was also surprised by the audience. I thought I had a higher audience rating that budget 50 million box office 25 point 5 million. Oh, yeah. Big Ouch. Directed by john carpenter, written by john carpenter and Deborah Hill. And Kurt Russell is only writing credit. I didn't know that. Yeah, it's the only project he ever wrote on. He jumped on board. He was really enthusiastic about continuing the story of snake plissken really wanted to reprise the role, and was a big, big part of this process produced by Kurt Russell and Deborah Hill, starring Kurt Russell snake plissken. He's been in 101 things. He's played Elvis, Elvis, and Elvis. You might remember him as Elvis Yeah. One of which was uncredited. You might not remember him as being the voice of Elvis and Forrest Gump. But he is Oh, that's interesting. Yeah. I also in john Carpenter's TV movie Elvis and the so I'm sure that Kelly will have other roles so I will skip on by we also have In this movie we have kind of interesting cast we have Steve Buscemi who plays map of the stars, Eddie. He's been in 164 things. He's a Tarantino and Jim Jarmusch favorite actor. But but I personally loved him and Con Air and Boardwalk Empire. You we also have Peter Fonda as surfer named pipeline. He's been in 117 things my favorite of which is future world. Click If Robertson as president Adam has been 116 things I knew him as spider man's Uncle Ben. Valerie gulino as a test Lima 106 credits she's a Greek actress who was in Rain Man and hot shots as Ramit Ramada Ramada, Ratan Haman. It's impossible so and she's recently been in portrait of a lady on fire. Stacy Keach as commander Mack Malloy. 250 things. Lots of TV like Prison Break and Titus but I think, I think she's the one who isn't starch. Stacy Keach is a guy so their minds income IQ, I'm retracting that there is one person here who is on Star Trek and I didn't write them down anyway. It's fine. Don't worry about it. Stacy Keach a guy Pam Grier plays cardiac Malone aka her. Her she lost Hamas. She's been 104 things like Jackie Brown and goes to Mars. I can see from here, Kelly's just having a moment. And just a couple more people including Bruce Campbell plays Surgeon General Beverly Hills. AJ Langer as utopia the president's daughter and George orifice as Corvo Jones, you probably don't know him. He's a European actor, but he's been in a lot of stuff, the plots. So let's just break down the situation here. All right. Because once it happens, it really happens. So 1998 la is a crime ridden decadent town as being directly governed and patrolled by the US police force. That's true. But what about this movie? Two years later, in August 2000, a massive earthquake strikes the San Fernando Valley which floods in LA turns into an island from Malibu to Anaheim, Anaheim, big, big island. The President predicted this, or I should say would be president he gets elected and becomes president for life. He declares LA to be sinful and punished by God. He moves the capital of the United States to Lynchburg, Virginia and creates a pheo kradic totalitarian state. Anyone not corn conforming to the new morale America, which bans tobacco, alcohol, drugs, red meat, firearms, profanity, atheism, non Christians. I know guys, I know. homelessness, being an orphan and extra marital sex, all of which are criminal and results in being punished and stripped of citizenship and deported to LA islands unless they repent and accept a death by electrocution. Wow. Good option. Thanks. I containment Wall Of course, much like in New York is built around the island with armed guards and watchtowers. Meanwhile, in 2013, clairvaux Jones, not at all like the kind of Cuban revolutionary Who's that guy? He's on all the all the tequila, then. Chavez Yeah, but he's that's what they're really go in for a Peruvian revolutionary seduces the president's daughter utopia via her VR hologram world, which she spends time in and brainwashes her into stealing her father's remote control. Sort of I gotta say you're actually making me want to watch this again, cuz Holy shit. Guys, there's a lot going on. I just really want to set up the universe because I think it's important to understand. So this sort of, I am pronouncing this wrong. Demand, demand damarcus Damocles Sword of Damocles dhammika mascus Damascus, it's whatever that thing is, let's just keep saying it. Somebody's screen through it times so loudly by the podcast recently suddenly know. It's a super weapon that controls a series of satellites capable of rendering all electronic devices anywhere on the planet that it chooses to pinpoint useless. The President intends to use this to destroy the US his enemy's ability to function and eventually to dominate the world while traveling aboard Air Force three utopia, the seduce daughter steals the device and takes an escape pod to LA island to join her boyfriend corbeau. Corvo intends to use this device to take back the US with the assistance of an Allied invasion force of third world nations that are standing by to attack. If the president tries to stop him he will black out the capital. All right, that's the world. So Meanwhile, Snake plissken is captured for another series of crimes and scheduled to be deported to the island call me snake commies. When he is in the processing center, he needs some military officials who attempt to make a deal with him to clean his record in exchange for help retrieving the weapon and killing the president's daughter utopia. The President knows this and he himself walks out of the shadows and is like Yo, I will give you a pardon. snicker Of course refuses because fuck the man. But when what he doesn't know is he's already been scratched on his arm and infected with the manmade plucks. Sorry, clue toxins seven virus that will kill him within 10 hours unless he completes the mission. And they administer the cure left with no choice and a wish to survive. Snake agrees. At this point, it becomes an escape from New York sequel it is just Escape from New York but in LA it's like a remake almost. It's kind of Yeah, it's very similar beat every very wonder why every beat is remade now very much very much. So instead of the cabbie you have. You have Steve Buscemi who's in like a Cadillac. He's the one who knows how to navigate space. Instead of having to fight to the death with like, beating each other up. He asked to play basketball. Oh, that's right. He can't miss a basket. The basket he has 10 seconds to go from each end to the other. And I think it's like 10 times he has to get 10 in a row. But there's not enough time. So each time he makes a basket. He's further away from the opposite ends. Oh, yeah. So at the end, he has to shoot across the court completely and make it in? Does he? You'll have to watch and see. I'm gonna guess Yes. is a really short what happens midway through? Um, yeah, it's very, very one to one, just down to pretty much every single beat you can imagine. But the LA version so where it's dirty and grimy New York style like dark, it becomes silly and campy. I am going to go ahead and take a stab and say that this was intended to be a ridiculous movie. There is no way that this was written in like a serious note. I am pretty sure two friends got drunk together, sat around and wrote the script. And when Wouldn't it be hilarious if the audio commentary for the thing would indicate that there's a strong probability? Unfortunately, I have the shout factory version of this and it did not come with an audio commentary. Which I was like, why did you even put this out? This is stupid because like, that's the whole joy. John's kind of become a crotchety old guy. No, I'm not talking about that embarrassing, I'm sure but to sit around and hang out with Kurt and like drink. That's like his favorite thing to do. Yeah, the bigger question is why wouldn't you go back to the screenwriter have escaped from New York, which was not john carpenter. Yeah. and say, Hey, we're thinking of doing a sequel. I know for a fact that he was not even approached. He had no idea the movie was coming out of the trailer. Yeah, I think I think it was again because john Carpenter's friends with Kurt Russell and Russell was really the one pushing it and going, I really want to do this role again. It was so much fun. So he's, I'll say this. He looks great as snake plissken. Oh, yeah. And we'll get we'll get into that in a second. I'm gonna just really quickly gloss over a couple of things that happen on there la high jinks cuz I want to really sell to you guys. The minutes later. No, now. I have a bullet list. I know what you mean when you say I'm gonna gloss over something. I have a bullet list. It only has 84 items the size 10. I'm looking at it right now. We have in this movie a mini don't just take off your headphones and leave. I thought I'd go take a small croissants and I'll be right. In this movie, we have a mini submarine with the jaws shark. We have surfing down the LA reservoir. That place where the Terminator had that scene and then jumping off of the surfboard onto a moving car for a fight scene. We have basketball. We have glide We have holograms. We have plastic surgery attics, starring Bruce Campbell as a crazy plastic surgery surgeon almost unrecognizable to I honestly did take me a minute because I knew he was in it and I was pretty sure it was him but I really wasn't sure until the end credits. I was like the jaw has to be him. It has to be the jaw is everything's extreme. Yeah, it's almost like grotesque it is and his eyebrows just the eyebrows, being like, plastered over and then repainted. That throws you off. It's he's very creepy in his voice is like a normal human voice. It's not like a cool Bruce Campbell voice that might have actually been instead of the Geico cavemen that might have been the inspiration for the supernova. And Koufax for the creature, because that's kind of sounds like you're describing him. You're talking about something we talked about last week, as if we only talked about it hours ago? Because I know how am I supposed to remember this? I don't. We also have fake Disneyland because they could not get the rights. It's clearly Disneyland that there's a castle and everything. We have CGI buildings where glass literally falls out in giant sheets. It's pretty great. And we have the practical as opposed to the practical apocalyptic style sets with really beautiful work stunning, like actual set building work. And here, they took their fucking time. And I the favorite part of that, to me is inside the sub, there's this weird like, coiling around snake's head that kind of gives him this sort of Halo, but the coil is this sort of big silver cabling. That looks like a snake skin. Oh, it looks so fucking cool. It's like straight out of Geiger. So this, this film is amazing. And are you saying ironically, did you like it? You know what, I really did enjoy it. It's not a good movie. Like it's not. It's enjoyable, but it's not good. Like, but watching it. There's no point in which I was like, bored. There's no point in which I was like, well, this is really really stupid. Like, everything felt like they were giving it their all and because they committed to it. It worked. I'm sure at the time people were just fucking furious. But um, yeah, I don't know. It just it's a fun film. It feels a lot like fun Blade Runner. That's what I picked out. It's like if Blade Runner was fun. And it's just as insane about la in the same way that New York is insane. And it feels really satisfying because it's made by people who live in LA, and are kind of commenting on what's going on in LA at the time. In fact, it's inspired by the earthquake that happened. And they sat around, they were like, oh, man, like what would have like, Can let's take this further. What would have happened if like the big earthquake in LA and what was 94 had these knock on effects, and they just kept going and going going with a little bit of trivia. This is the fifth and as of 2020 final collaboration between Kurt Russell and john carpenter, which sucks. And I'm furious about it. It took 10 years to develop some kind of surprise. The screenwriter wasn't aware of it. I just know that I have heard an interview with him. And he was like, I didn't even know the movie was happening. But that's Yeah, they approached me. And he was a friend of carpenters. How weird. How is very, very weird. I don't know Carpenter can be a little bit of a weird one that times. And at one point, the scripts script was commissioned in 87. It was written by Coleman luck, but a carpenter described it as too late and too can be beautiful. And I already talked about the LA earthquake, and Carpenter insists that it was Russell's persistence that allowed this film to be made since snake plissken was a character he loved and wanted to play again. The ending was written by Kurt Russell. The president the idea of the way the President was written was also Kurt Russell's idea. It's based on the televangelist pat robertson. Ghosts from Mars, as was mentioned before on this podcast by Mr. Kelly, his favorite john carpenter. The look having flashbacks you keep mentioning this, paint your body more and more. It's kind of at some point, you're going to be a ball on the corner of the room. Because Mars was meant to be the third snake plissken film, but after this movie failed so dramatically. It was rewritten several references in this film to snake plissken keep talking about Cleveland and how snake was in Cleveland a bunch, which I was like What is going on? I guess it's an in joke. reference to the fact that john Carpenter knew a guy or john Carpenter tours friend knew a guy from Cleveland named snake plissken which is where He got the idea for this character. So that's what's going on there. Um, Russell was 45 when he made this film and it took him several months to get back into the plissken shape. However, at the beginning of this film, he is wearing the original Sega snake plissken costume, which fit after 15 years. Yeah, good. Yeah, exactly. The eyepatch was especially was made special for this movie, so that it was semi transparent because Kurt Russell kept getting headaches to make it so he could see a little bit. Um, plus skins in new costume was inspired by the stealth bomber. The costume designer Robin Bush said we actually invented a fabric for it. It's unfortunate because I think the costume is hideous. It's just me though. Kurt Russell practice playing basketball between scenes as he wants to make all of his shots legitimately in the basketball scene. And he actually did do it purely on his own talent. Including perhaps maybe making a full court shot. His Hail Mary was actually one that was he actually did it. That's crazy. It's not nuts. I wire wrestle is in this movie as an orphan in the detention processing center. She's wearing a hat. Kate Hudson actually auditioned for the role of utopia but did not get it. Russell originally wanted his partner Goldie Hawn to play utopia, but she was hospitalized at the time with a particularly bad case of Turco mononucleosis. trichomoniasis I don't know what it is, but it sounds bad. She read the script. Russell's jack Russell Terrier, Schindler supplied the gowling have actually dropped it that were dropped an octave for the film's climactic escape scene. Kurt Russell made 10 million doing the film. So out of that budget 10 went directly to him. Steve Buscemi took this film in part to fund his directorial debut trees lounge. And to get into the character of a transgender gender woman, Pam Greer put a sock in her pants during shooting. JOHN Carpenter kind of helped sell the transgender character by lowering her she's voiced by an octave and a half in post production. And something that I do think is important to note the bad CGI in this movie, which is one of the bigger complaints Yeah, yeah. And it was because the employees at Buena Vista visual effects had never dealt with CG before and didn't know how to achieve it properly. It took over 150 computer generated effects to create one underwater sequence. Wow. Yeah, it's the only sequel john Carpenter ever directed. He refused to do Halloween too. And it's the soundtrack for this movie I do need to say you guys is amazing. It is insane. It has music from tool, stabbing westward, white zombie butthole, surfers, Sugar Ray, Tory Amish, Jesus ministry and the Deftones. The score was released on both CD and cassette by Milan records in 96. And again, with special late additions by law and run Land Records in 2014. Using tracks that were cut from the film, john Carpenter has actually said, escape from LA is is better than the first movie 10 times better. It's got more to it. It's more mature. It's got a lot more to it. I think some people didn't like it because they felt it was a remake, not a sequel, I suppose. That's the old question. And whether you like Rio Bravo or Eldorado better, they're essentially the same movie. They both have their strengths and weaknesses. I don't know. You never know why a movie is going to make it or not. This is obviously a direct quote. Didn't want to see escape at the time, but they really didn't want to see the thing. You just wait, you've you've got to get a little while longer because you know, people will say you know what, what's wrong with me? Wow, desperately crying there. Yeah, by the way comic there was a comic book released the adventures of snake plissken in 1997. That was some set some time between Escape from New York and has the famous Cleveland escape, mentioned in it. And there was a video game that was announced and then shelved. So there we go. I have the soundtrack on vinyl. Oh, really? I should I have the score soundtrack. Oh, okay. And I bought it simply because it's a double LP. It was like $20 and the second LP is the is the soundtrack to escape from New York, which is better sound Yeah. Honestly, as soon as they start playing, they opened with the Escape from New York game and it's one of my favorite john Carter tracks. So I just was like, yeah, and also boom. Yeah, of course I went into like tool. So I this is just a frustrating film because they there is a good movie in hair hidden in here. The stuff with Bruce Campbell is really interesting, I think. And if they had gone that route, instead of a, like you said a beef or beat rag. I think I do like the idea of because it's LA, everything is bright and glitzy and, you know, making fun of what LA is. But I didn't need all of the same beats. I agree. You know, the characters and the little segments are super fun. And I think if they'd explored those areas, like you're saying better, like they have the whole Queen Mary ship in there at one point, and that's where her she's hanging out. And I'm like, bam, we should spend more time here. And then they talk about this. I want to say that it's a Korean gang. And like you see them at one point for like two seconds. And it's a bunch of like little kids with like, machine guy. Yes. This is so cool. Like, let's spend more time in this lore. And I do think that if they done that rather than like the Chevys or whatever, like that whole section just it's a lot. It's a bit too much. Yeah, I mean, this could have been like a warrior's Type Heavy instead. And that would have been more interesting with him just kind of having to traverse and get away. That would have been interesting. I love the idea of, of the theme park. That seems like a brilliant idea to make fun of. Yeah. And it just all you know falls apart because the story you know, that's not what that's not what made escaped from New York. So interesting here. And that antihero is super interesting. Yeah. That's Kurt Russell. Boom. Kurt Russell. JOHN carpenter. latinum play. Yeah, exactly. Like his character is something that we will follow through any, any setup. Yeah, you know, it could be snake plissken goes to hell. Snake person goes to Canada. Snake. Escape from Canada. Oh, you know what I like to hang out. It's great. You know, climbs Mount Everest, we would just follow that story for for sure. And I think you're right, because I've watched Escape from New York so many times. And it really isn't amazing. In there's a lot of like, misstep in that movie. And it sometimes falls flat and boring, whatever. But again, Snake is just like, yeah, you just want to see what happens every time he walks in the room and meet somebody. Yeah. Yeah. Well, I will say you've made me want to give it another shot. I think it's worth it. I think it's worth checking it back out and seeing what you think. Because I don't know like, especially if you think it's going to be shitty, then maybe you'll like it a little bit more. I do remember just being horrified in the theater, at the effects, effects just if you can look past or just wrap that up like into a tortilla. Like you know what, that's just part of this ride. Then I think if you're not spending all your time looking at it, then there is a film in there that's worth watching. Well, cool. I mean, so many great films to choose from. I chose from two years after that 1998 soldier. In the future, technology will allow us to explore new worlds and change the way we live like never before. But there is one thing that will never change. He was programmed from birth to be part of the most invincible army in history. scientific advancements are practically manufactured using DNA profiles. He was destined to become obsolete for endurance. Better hand I told him stat. What do we do with him waste disposal. His training had prepared him for anything except this. Now, on a remote planet, a community of outcasts faces extermination. I want that planet secured by Oh 600 portable opposition that will be officially classifiable as hostiles find weapons and prepare to fight to organize this soldier it may be too late to view here. When How do you know they'll be back? Because they're soldiers like me, but it's never too late to be a hero. I'm going to kill them all. wrestle soldier remember seeing this in the theater and liking it. I remember watching it about 10 years ago and thinking it was really slow and then watching it for this again, just the other night and loving it. budget of$60 million 20 million of that budget went to Kirk directly. Wow, this guy. He makes money box office have about $15 million, which didn't even pay for Kurt so maybe made a little less after soldiers. Rotten Tomatoes. The critics have it at 13% the audience has oh 44% oh shit. people hated that more than escape from here. People are wrong. This is directed by Paul Ws Anderson. I'm the director of event horizon the evil or the Resident Evil franchise Death Race Aliens vs predator written by David Webb peoples who wrote 12 monkeys. Unforgiven Blade Runner. Wow, holy shit. And the Blade Runner connection is interesting as we'll get into, it starts Kurt Russell. What from the computer wore tennis shoes. strongest man in the world. It also says Jason Scott Lee, who Eric would know from Dragon the Bruce Lee story. He was also in the live action Jungle Book movie from years ago. Not the most recent one. And also the Milan live action film. Oh, Sean Pertwee from Event Horizon dog soldiers and he plays Alfred in the Gotham TV series. And Connie Nielsen from Gladiator one hour photo and just recently she was it poeta blada Hipple Hipple in wonder woman. She's like a woman's mom. Oh, okay. So this starts in the distant future 1996, where we see a bunch of orphaned infants being selected at birth, and then we get this kind of montage and we see them being raised as highly disciplined soldiers dedicated to a holy military routine. So even when you see them in the classroom, like the ABCs, the a word I can't remember what it was, but you know, like C was combat, and D was death, and stuff like that. So they are trained to be ruthless soldiers with zero morals, and any of them deemed physically or mentally unworthy are executed. There is one scene where we see the kids at about 12 years old, and they are running. Kurt Russell's character being in the lead. And there is the group of kids running and then there's a straggler at the end, we see a car pull up to him and then the camera goes off of him. And we hear a gunshot Oh my god. Whoa. Russell is Todd Todd 3465 is the name of his character. So we jump ahead to the future 2036 and at the age of 40. Todd 3465 is a battle hardened veteran and the best soldier of this group. Colonel Macomb comes in the leader of the original project who is played by Jason Isaacs, you would know him as Lucius Malfoy comes in and introduces a new group of genetically engineered soldiers designed with superior physical attributes and a complete lack of emotion except for they're fucking aggressive as fuck. Captain church who is the commander of Todd's unit, played by a fairly normal Gary Busey in this film. He insists on testing the abilities of these new soldiers against those of his group, which is Kurt Russell's group. And the new soldiers outperform in every single way they send Todd 33465 off and say, you know, get to it 12 miles right now and he just goes off and starts running. And then they wait 30 minutes, I send one of the new soldiers Jason Scott Lee, and he overtakes Todd very quickly and then you know, runs the 12 miles and something like 15 minutes and then Todd comes in about an hour later. It's not that long, but he's he's well behind and so For the very last test, they put Jason Scott Lee up on this chain. And then they send three other soldiers up on these other chains and they fight basically to the death. And even though Kurt Russell manages to gouge his eye out, Jesus got lead dumps into the floor and the three soldiers are assumed to dead. pert is not but he looks like it. And I think it's, it's shot, interestingly enough, because I think that what you're seeing, he's lying there with his eyes open, but he looks dead. And I think you're seeing like the death of his of his will. He's never been defeated. Before. You know, when we, when we watched him grow up, we saw all these little tiny scenes a montage of all these battles. So he's in the desert, and then it goes like immediately to a snowy wasteland. And then it's like on a different planet and shit like this. And so he is just kicking ass and killing people constantly. And all of a sudden, he's killed. Supposedly, he is dumped into the trash, basically, this big huge trash thing and then dumped on a waste disposal planet where he is found and nursed back to health by a colony, this colony, the residents there, they crash landed there years earlier, and they were believed to have been dead and so no rescue team was ever sought out for them. So they have managed to, you know, build a little colony on this trash planet. And he tries to kind of integrate into the society. It's it's funny and heartbreaking because he cannot he just does not even know how to talk to regular humans. And they're a little scared of him because he is like Terminator, like, almost, you know, he answers questions with one word calls everybody, sir. And he he just reacts to everything like a soldier would. So he's he's also having horrible PTSD, which is an interesting way to, to deal with this character. As a writer. I was like, oh, wow, this is really sad. Like the colonists are having like, you know, fireworks go off. And he's like, he's just standing there. But they're showing flashbacks really quick, and then doing a slow zoom on his eyes, and you're like, Oh, my God, my heart is breaking for this guy. He does build this, this kind of rapport with a young mute child, and they, they make a connection by not speaking. And he's also having these weird issues that he's never had to deal with females before, or sexuality in any way. So he's attracted very much to this woman who kind of nursed him back to health, but she is the Connie Nielsen character. She is married to Sean Pertwee, and their kid is the mute child. So they brought him into their family. And the only one he can actually connect with is the kid. So at 1.1 of the colonists asks, If he's a deserter, and you can see that kind of pisses him off, but he says, he would, he says, I was replaced, sir. And I like what you mean replaced. And he says, by a better soldier, sir, and his eye kind of twitches, and you're just like, Oh, my God, I'm gonna start crying. But various little things, start worrying the colonists, and they feel compelled to kick him out after a while, like one of them taps him on the shoulder, and he almost kills the guy and stuff like that. And they're just like, we, we appreciate everything that you do, we just don't feel very safe around you. And he then goes and walks off into the desert. And it's this super horrible scene where he's sitting in this gigantic piece of garbage. And he's been, he's been rejected by every society he's ever known no military, these refugees have even said, you know, not good enough. And he finally shows emotion, and you see him crying, alone, and He's surprised that he's crying. The tears start coming, and he's touching his face gun, you know, what the fuck is this? In the credits roll. That would be at one point, though, the mute kid actually saves his parents from the snake. And they realize that one of the things they were very worried about, which was him kind of teaching this kid to, to be a little aggressive, they realize, wait a second, these lessons he taught the kid actually helped him survive on this planet, and maybe we bent a little hard on him. So the guy shumpert we goes back to find him and apologizes to him. And even though the other colonists have said, No, no, no, we can't have him. He's too dangerous. He goes and he's like, Look, I get it. I get what you're trying to do, and we'll make it all work out. And you know, you're one of us, so come back. Meanwhile, meachum and church, the military guys, they coincidentally have decided to use this planet for combat training and they are going to use the old soldiers verse. As the new soldiers, but they discovered the colonists are there and meachum who is the Lucius Malfoy? He, he says, look, we've got no record of these guys. And this is an excellent way to test our new soldiers. No, we'll just use the colonists as combat practice. So that starts happening. And just after Sean Pertwee brings Todd 3465 back, he is killed. And you and Todd is just like, you know, oh, Christ, okay. Well, the one guy who was fighting for me just got killed by the soldiers who I know are better than me. And he's like, Okay, I'm gonna whip the, he actually kills one of the new soldiers. And the, the military guys are kind of like, Wait a second, we weren't expecting them to fight back What's going on? And so it's for Russell kind of whipping this group into shape very quickly. But what what also happens is he comes across one of his old soldiers, because they were going to be used to fight the new soldiers in combat training. And he basic they're basically like, you know, order sir. And he says, defend the colonists. So he's got now is obsolete soldiers, and him fighting these new soldiers. And it turns into, you know, this movie hits every beat, you know, you kind of know what's going to happen pretty much it but it's super satisfying. And it's got this one final scene where he is addressing his soldiers and the little mute kid comes up to him, and he, he picks the kid up, and the other soldiers Just look at him and he's holding a baby, basically, you know, a little more than a toddler. And the soldiers kind of are looking at him like with a question in their eyes, and he looks at them just kind of stares at them and they all kind of go Okay, without saying a word. And he walks away holding this kid and so just get back to what they're doing. And that's kind of where the movie ends. It's just like I said, super satisfying. Wyatt, Russell. Please, please, Todd 3465 at the age of 11 it was so funny because I didn't know that back then. And why a wrestler courses become a very good actor in his own right now. But looking at him, you're just like, Oh my God, that's totally what pure Russell like at 11 so I just thought they found a great, you know, a great kid that look like him. So how they cast that guy. So at one point very early on in the montage, we get Todd's service wrecker service record displayed displayed on a computer screen and it includes the following the battles of tannhauser gate and the shoulder of Orion which are references to Blade Runner, receipt of the plissken patch. receipt of the O'Neill ring award, which is stargates. That was his character was O'Neal receipts of the cash Medal of Honor, Tango and cash receipt of the mccreedy cross receipt of the captain Ron trophy. receipt of the McCaffrey fire award which is this character and backdraft receipt of the Dexter Riley award. That was his character in the strongest man in the world and the tennis shoes. And then finally citations for the Libyan moons campaign the Antares Maelstrom war and the war of predictions flames locations referred to in Star Trek to Todd's unit statistics reference the dungeons the dragons ability scores so when you see all of his stuff, its strength, dexterity, intelligence, wisdom, and it also shows stats for his damage hit points. And even RSR, which apparently means resurrection. Despite being advertised in UK cinemas. The film performed so badly on its US release that Warner Brothers decided not to release it theatrically in the UK Wow. That it went straight to pay per view. David Webb people's the writer started writing the screenplay to soldier while Blade Runner was being filmed. As the screenwriter of both films he has long maintain that they are set in the same universe a side quo if you will. The fact that the vehicles used by the Blade Runner spinners are also in soldier you can see a couple of them on the junk worlds crazy reverse. The premise of soldier was actually based on an unused opening scene for Blade Runner where a group of replicants are dumped and left for dead on an offworld colony. Wow. Both films are released by Warner Brothers and both were box office failures. Both are damn good. commentary for Big Trouble in Little China. Kurt Russell stated that he only took another action film at that age because he wanted the paycheck and only stuck with it after breaking an ankle and a foot during the filming because he still wanted that paycheck. put up a lot of pain for $20 million. Yeah, no kidding. That was my movie soldier. It is available. I believe on prime. I think that's how I watched it. I'm with you, man. This I love this fucking movie. This is one that I just never understood why it was so? Well, I kinda understand why it's so ripped apart. But I disagree. There's so good. Eric knows and probably a lot of the listeners know that one of my favorite movies is Shane. And there's a strong Shane vibe to this film. So that's part of the reason I love it so much. Well, I was getting excited just listening to you describe it. It's just Oh, Have you not seen I've not seen I think you would like this one very much. He's 47 when he films this if it's two years after that one. And he is built like a brick shithouse I bet he there's a lot of shots of him with just you know, gigantic muscles. So 47 years old. Yeah, pretty fucking great. We shoot soldier real soon. I pray. I did here kind of a bittersweet thing from Kurt Russell, that he wants Santa Claus to be the last character he ever plays. Now. I don't know if that means he wants to do more Santa Claus. And he might do other movies in between. But whatever his final, you know, or if he's kind of nearing I'm just done. I hope not. Because he's just I mean, I think he took that Santa Claus character, and like, made it fresh, which isn't sane. And just, he's my favorite Santa Claus. And well, we'll see. He's already in the next Chris Fast and Furious movie, so that's true. But he was in Vegas, which I didn't realize she was supposed to be in guardians three to know, I think his character was Marvel. I like that. Come on. Marvel is enough to go Oh, yeah. Vanessa, I believe you're up. Yes. So um, I have had an idea on my list for a little bit I think I'd like to throw out there which is, as seen on TV. So this doesn't mean necessarily to bad products you buy from that section of Walgreens? That its products are amazing. I've never had such a well chopped tomatoes in my life I've seen on Shark Tank. This is gonna mean as either movies that became TV shows or TV shows that ended up having a movie made after them. That could be fun. I love this idea. Yes.
