I'm sorry did I break your concentration somewhere between science and superstition such sigh to show you strange aeons. Welcome strange aeons radio. That's Eric over there. Hey, Lou. Guys Vanessa over there. Hello. I'm Kelly. And we are talking ninjas. Why? Ninjas? Oh god, I got the wrong film. November continues but before that, I must say that little shout out to our good friend Steve Hall. It's of the bone bat podcast. He listened to a couple episodes ago where I was complaining about Eric's smug fanboy bullshit, sir. He sent us a group text that said merely Eric smug grit. And I was like, that's gonna fucking stick. Wow, it made me laugh so hard that I then had to go back and re Listen to me complaining about Eric and how smug Eric continue to be. And then imagine my disappointment, Vanessa, when you then turned to me and said, Well, what did you think of the score? And I honestly said, I didn't really notice it. And you were like, really? Oh my god, you guys. Your blatant contempt for your fellow podcast host is so transparent. And the audit look to me. It's fine. I get it. You guys hate me but the audience. Kelly, I love that you're complaining about Eric and my smugness. And you just went and listened to yourself a second time to hear how great you are. Well, I like to be entertained. Better than me what I when I one last I listen to something funny. I said. Oh. So you know what I did? Thursday? Or Wednesday? Huh? What's he doing in the theater? Because it's the last day I was gonna be in theaters. Oh my god, you know, and I did fucking great. I'm sitting there going. Okay, I don't have my phone now. I don't have anything distracting me. What's it going to be like watching? Oh? I am happy. Like this move this much. Yes, I would like to be this smug and pretentious. But I can't I just can't do a Vanessa. Look at me. I'm a real human being and I like what I like I don't pretend to like things. Say used to do that. I'd like to just let it go. Oh, your opinion on people that didn't like movies you thought were great. And the two things they must be? Oh, stupider liar. Oh, no. Oh, no, I don't think you're lying. Oh, no. Oh, this just got so bad. By the way, dune has like 89% of rotten tomatoes. So clearly, I am in the minority for not liking this film. Yeah, I think that there is something to be said about how how you watch a movie too. Like watching it in your living room. I can't imagine versus like watching it in a IMAX experience, which is what I had. So it's just a different it's just a different piece. I will tell you though, the people that hate it are very happy to out there on websites and YouTube talking about how much they hate it. Oh. They want to do a podcast with me. Everybody I've talked to just hates the main actor and they're just like, he's so smug. And I also rewatched it because some friends of mine were coming into town and I was like, we have to watch Do we wait and watch dude? And yeah, it was Yeah, yeah. I don't remember where I was going with this. As much as the first time I'm guessing though. I did and and the actor the lead actor is actually way more tolerable than I thought I remembered him being because I remember being like Yeah, yeah, I guess he is a little bit and then watched it again. It was like oh my god, he's actually incredible. Like, really good. I don't know why it's that bad. I feel bad now. I put that out there on planet earth and he wasn't that good and he's actually pretty good. Well, you didn't put it out on the podcast because I don't remember you saying that but now you have and nobody knows how you corrected it quickly it's very strange whiplash moment their guide. So did you see anything? Yeah, I did. Because it just came out on Disney plus, I finally saw Shawn Chee. Oh, aren't you still haven't seen now? I just noticed, like yesterday. Oh shit. It is on it'll be worse now. I'll just say this. I almost hated it. Really? Yeah, you can say what you want, but I'm not worried about spoilers. I'm Marvel the first 40 minutes of it. Yeah, it was just like, oh my god, this is so much fun. I hate awkwafina And by the end of the first 40 minutes, I was in love with Aquafina. Yeah, she won me over. Everybody was with me over. And then it goes into the magic realm. Yep, it becomes a fantasy film. And I was like, oh, no, what is what is this? It's fucking Lord of the Rings. Yeah, I love but I do not want in my Shang chi. It was really stapled it felt very simple together. And that's, that's something that it really lost me with as well, especially when I think back on it because it's doing that Marvel thing where it's one of those movies where I think back on and I'm like, what happened in it again? Like, what was that movie? I don't, I don't know that I loved as much as I thought I loved it. Marvel needs to know it is okay to make a movie where the fate of the world doesn't hang in the balance every single movie. Yeah, this could have been a small story. Like the comics always were, you know, it was a real rare thing when changxi would show up in Spider Man or something like that. He had his other things going on. And they were important things, but they were not world ending events. And this was just like, why is Shawn CI saving the world? That is not what he does. So I was just like, god damn it. I liked a lot of the little things in it. And I loved the people who are showing up from the other Marvel movies and all that. But overall, I was just super, super disappointed. And it's only because I am a nerd who wants what I want. And this movie was not what I wanted. So I'm smoke. I understand that. Well, no, I understand that. No, this mug person is going to be the one who watched it and is like Kelly, you haven't realized that they've rebooted Shang chi since the 40 years that you said that that is now what he does. He has superpowers and all this stuff. And they would be right. I did not realize that. But I assume I assume that's what's going on. I think I think that actually you might be right, in that a lot of this stuff is getting rewritten for the movies, to a certain extent, especially characters that weren't as big of a deal. They're really taking over and reformatting. And I say that, because I just watched the Eternals oh, I want to hear all about this. Oh, man, another comic book I loved in the 70s that I know that movie is nothing like the movie is not gonna be anything like it. I've I've listened to a Marvel podcast discussing the differences. And I was like, Oh, shit, yeah. You know, it's, um, it's got some, it's better than I thought it was going to be I had a big sense of dread of it being awful because I was like, this is a dramatic director, who is really good at small emotional moments and landscapes. And they're taking on a Marvel movie with a list actors like Angelina Jolie who can swing their weight around as well as producers. And I wasn't entirely wrong. But the thing I was wrong about is that it's not funny. And whatever she is trying to be funny, it's not good. So let's start with that. But those small moments that she is really good at crafting are really good. They feel really good. And the landscapes in it are incredible. So those things that she's good at work extremely well. But all the humorous moments feel awful, like curl every time they generally somebody was hired to punch up the script and add some humor or something. Oh, I am sure that that was in there. I just don't think she knew how to squeeze those in. When it's like in the middle of some like really heartfelt thing and somebody in the background like whoops, I slipped or whatever. Like it's just not It feels bad. Didn't you just win an Oscar because this film? Yeah, or an Nomad land? Okay. And it's also it's not like it's, it's the movies almost like taking the last three Avengers movies and starting there. Yeah. You don't have seen it? No, but I mean, just the concept because there's way like, eight or nine of them. And they're all being introduced in one movie with Oh, much. You know, I mean, it's hard not to do the way the story's done, but it's fairly I'm still thinking of a vector b stuff. Yeah. But because I actually just read it like two or three months ago. It should it should have been two if not three films. Oh, wow. That is the that is the real problem with this. I think they wanted to start a new version of Marvel's The next chapter of Marvel's Phase Five or something other in having so yeah, in so they were setting it up but they were setting it up so hardcore that it's like You guys need to really get the fuck back and like spread this incredibly epic story out at least into films because just keeping up with the character arcs and the moments and the bigger plotline was really hard. It was very whiplash II and I don't know it was better than I thought it was going to be. I think it's worth seeing, but I wish that they'd taken more time with it. Just reassure me that when you finally see the celestial standing, they're disappearing into the sky that it is cooler than shit looking. The celestial they is fucking rad. Okay, yeah, super, super, super rad looking. I love that. I'm good. Like I said, scale landscape. Anything that shows something enormous, done beautifully. Well, I mean, I'll, I'll certainly watch it. I'm not sure I'm gonna try to go to the theater to watch it. Sure. Have a marvelous movies are getting a little better, a little weirder. Well, and we're also I think, you know, deep into what do they call it? Not overexposure. But But superhero overload where we're just kind of like, Can we can we get Yeah, superhero fatigue? Yeah, we get something else going on? I think that's probably what they're trying to address with the Eternals, which are not traditional superheroes, or Xiangxi. Except that they forced him into a traditional superhero movies, right? Yeah, absolutely. And also, so this is very bad. Shang Qi introduces this whole new thing that I thought they were saying was going to kind of set up the next phase of the Marvel movies. And then what if and Loki were setting up the next phase of the Marvel movies and the Eternals? So are all these somehow going to actually make sense? Are we going towards one big bad or all? I think it's two, I think it's two separate things. I think we're gonna get the multiverse of madness, which is where we see one division and Loki and I don't know about Xiangxi, I'm not sure how involved that would really be with it. But the next phase of probably the next three or four films are all going to be in this multiverse space. And I think the Eternals are setting up what happens after that. Oh, interesting. Oh, yeah, I know. They're like introducing has nothing to do with a multiverse and it is definitely going to introduce lots of new characters, lots of new places, and lots of new setup and not lots of new threats that have nothing to do with a multiverse. Oh, wow. I don't know if either of you watch that. Disney plus Disney Day. 21 ID 2021. It's only 14 minutes long and 10 minutes of it is just flashing back on one division and Falcon and winter snowman. All of this stuff that we've already seen. No, man. Oh. And then a brief look at what's coming forward. And there is so much coming up that it's like, Are you kidding me? You know, not just what he's What if Season Two and Loki Season Two and all of these things. But then a couple of really cool looking scenes from moon night. I was like, oh, and Marvel Zombies getting their own? Why gotta be animated. It's got to be right. Yeah. Thanks. Oh, my God. So, you know, it makes sense. They have more money than God, they have provided the only entertainment we've seen in the last two years, for the most part. Like and before that they had a pretty good stake in the claim, you know, like, it's a lot. So I'm not shocked that they have all of our money and that they are going to continue to try to get all of our money. Fair enough. Oh, I'm going to really, really change styles. You know, episode or last episode or one before I talked about catching up on House, which I had never seen. Oh, my God house move. Oh, right. Right. Oh, I've knocked off another trilogy. Oh, detail house was much better. I'll say overall. First off the Slumber Party massacre. Oh, wow. I think I saw the first one. I don't even know that. I knew there was a third one. I'm sure I saw the first two and the second one is the one that's a musical, right? No, okay. No one there's another thing I was when I was looking up how it was there something also called slumber party or slumber massacre party or something. My gross probably not canon. And I don't need to watch four or five of these. I'll just do these three. They're I mean, they're distinctive, because they're one of the few if one of the very few horror slashes in the ad striker by women. All three are Yeah, there was a recent remake and I read a little bit about them going here. I don't know if I'll see that or not. They're slasher movies. They're at slasher movies, too. There's not a lot else going on there other than whatever you'd want in an 80s slasher movie. Hmm. So it's like, oh, okay, well, I've seen them now. I know what I should do next. Yeah. What's weird is slowly conquering all the movies on planet Earth. So are you thinking of what wasn't sleepaway camp to sleepaway camp it's it's something with I want to say it has slumber party or slumber something in it. And like the there's like this weird dream world where she keeps like waking up and and dreaming and the killer from the first one keeps coming through. But now he's got like a guitar. Oh, oh, that. He asked her to. Yes, yeah. When I said that I'm thinking, you know, dance numbers were their dance thing in as opposed to the women dancing in their underwear, which happens in every movie. There's the highest figure like they not dance to what's on the radio, but they'd be singing it and performing it. But yes, it does have the one of the great, dumb and awesome weapons in slasher movies with that guitar with the drill on the end. Yeah. Oh, is he the driller killer is that the guy or Slumber Party mask? Yeah, I forgot. Okay, weird giant drill in the first episode first when then the second one, they put it into guitar and the third one's just sort of a mess hodgepodge ish. I'm might have to watch the second one now that I've heard this. Yeah, yeah, that part is sort of were saying. It's like, bad, bad 80s Pop Rock kind of songs. As it's I mean, it's so weird in the music that I like do I trick or treats got like all over this one. We had so much better music than this. But who is the lead the lead somebody famous in the second one? I know who she was, but Oh, well that that famous. She went on to be the block. She's the blonde woman in the sitcom wings. Oh, don't think whole and a bunch of other stuff. But that's the main thing she did when I left. She looks really familiar. Oh, wait, it's okay. So yeah, if you're if you are as a curiosity, you know if you want a really good 80s Female are really entertaining. Blood Diner is much more entertaining. Sure. Oh, yeah. The second one is more fun because it does get stupider. With the music guy and stuff. It's yeah, it doesn't take my office. The first one is just, it's a slasher film. Or even simple but low budgets last year. Yep. You guys have Apple TV, right? Yeah. I watched Finch this weekend. Oh, the Tom Hanks. The Tom Hanks. Oh, how was that? I loved it. Really? enough that I watched it again. Wait, nice. Ah, the second time I was a little dusty. I might have to chop it up a little bit. Oh, it was not at all what I thought it was gonna be. It's post apocalyptic. It's basically just Tom Hanks. I mean, he's done it before he's done it before this. Instead of a volleyball. He has a robot that is helping him and you're gonna end up falling in love with this robot. So I that one comes very highly recommended from the Knights. Oh, that sounds incredible. Um, well, I have one that's not highly recommended. So all y'all I during during the penet rate before this pandemic thing happened. There were some movies that were advertised in theaters. And I have spent two years being excited for said movies including things like free guy, which I love. Yeah. Another one though, was a movie called antlers. I have been so excited about to so long. The trailer is so good. Yes. The movie is fucking garbage. Oh, I'm sorry. Oh, maybe. Okay. But um, this is the thing that kills me is on Facebook. A lot of our mutual acquaintances and friends have all talking been talking about how much they love it. And I'm like, You are insane. People stupid or like, I'm not sure which because that's got to be the truth. No, it's the thing that is amazing about it and does hold up. But literally the only thing is the creature. The monster in this movie looks incredible. It's freaky. It's gooey. It's all the things you want it to be. The rest of the movie is like sitting through a screening of hell for 45 minutes. It's like oh my It's so awful in the they have great actors they haven't really, really, really good people who are doing their best. But whoever shot and directed this film, and I initially wasn't sure if it was who shot it, who directed it or who edited it, but somebody in those three fucked up so hard. It is under watch doubly bad. It's weird shot sizes, sitting on people for no reason. The girl, it's kind of following us a story of a girl and her brother and her brothers, like the chief of police. Every crime scene he goes on, she's just there always for no reason. You're like you're a teacher. You shouldn't be here for literally no reason all the time. There's just logic bumps that happen. There's a scene with a shed. That is I'm not I look, there's a thing that happens and you're like, oh my gosh, that happened. And then the literal exact same thing happens immediately after again and you're like, Wait a second. Are you guys gonna do it a third time and they begin to set it up for a third time and you're like, what is happening right now? You can't just do the same thing over and over and over again. You guys you have to like, there were there were moments I didn't know where I was. I didn't know who was there and why they were there. That movie was just fucking awful. So I went to IMDb because I wanted to know who I was furious that because I knew I was furious. And I went through the credits. And I was like Nate, it's made. It's a fresh editor. You know who there's no way they only shot this much material and he got stuck making this movie. No, no, the editor is like super famous. Who, who's in tons of very well known films. It is squarely between the director and the DP who are lesser knowns. They had no clue what the fuck they were doing. And they lucked out and got stars and a script that people were getting behind. And they botched it. bad. It's bad. Guys, don't. Don't do it. Eric use that super smug, annoying voice and tell her how she just didn't understand how this movie is supposed to be. I haven't seen it so sorry. But I ain't got that. I'm sure that our friends who are listening to this right now we have probably just lost like several followers because of my anger and how much they definitely love this movie and think I'm wrong. But I I'm telling you it is a bad movie. It is an unwatchable bad movie. I was like, so it's just sitting there getting more and more frustrated. It was probably about 10 minutes, and then I realized it was going to be awful. Anyway, other than that you have no real feelings on it. creature looks great. Wow. Well, I watched one we've been talking about looking forward to and overall delivered the spine of night. Oh, yeah, I watch that too. Yeah. Did you? Did you like it? Because I know you're a bigger rotoscoped fan than I am. I think you are. I think that I'm more a fan of movies that have used that but not necessarily the process because I feel like it's almost got a little of the uncanny valley effect on Yeah. But I liked it. I had a chance to talk to Philip July last weekend the director. And because I was on the Lovecraft easing podcast with him right. And I said to him, would it have killed you to hire Sammy Hagar to sing a song called spine of night for the opening. And that was my problem with it. It reminded me so much of heavy metal that it needed some rock music or outage or something like that to kind of cuz it's a it's a pretty bleak story yet is the biggest problem I have with at least this this is just a visual problem. The passkey when he used rotoscoping he really kind of dirtied up people. Everybody in this looks so clean and perfect. There's no like shading really added to them. There's no grit or grime added to anybody who's especially people that are running around naked the entire time. Rolling through swamps and running through trees. Like I think that would have helped the movie a lot. Because it's just so it's a very it on the mazing background. Some Yeah, gorgeous backgrounds. And they sit on that background like a color form. What if I told you because the animator was there also Oh, okay, animator. What if I told you that one guy did this over nine years in his little apartment? Oh my god. I'd say he did brilliant work on the backgrounds. Absolutely. dining and another month and a half just putting a wash over the people would have made it a lot more believable. But yes, I mean it's not a bad there's that was not time wasted he did not put out a piece of crap. No, no and I'm sure that there were other animators involved. But this was the guy who came up with the, with the idea that this is what he wanted to do, because he had been working in advertising, I guess on commercials and stuff. And he was like, I want to do an animated feature film. Anybody with me? No. Okay. Yeah. And so he basically did all of this. They hired you know, actors to play the parts against a green screen and then because they didn't know what they were doing, you know, they recorded them and we're like, oh, well we know we're gonna go back and post and fix the audio and all stuff like that so the audio was not paid very close attention to and that turned into a big problem then of course they get Lucy Lawless and Patton Oswald to come in as voices and things like that and the animation has already been done. So now you're forcing these actors into making their dialogue match instead of the other way around. But I will say this I think is super super ambitious. And I enjoyed it. Especially for just the the ridiculous level of graphic gore. Stories good It's interesting. It's didn't feel like a retread which a lot of fantasy films do. Yeah, much as I love them, there's a lot of regurgitated reuse stuff in fantasy films and this one was had some nice original takes on it the old The only thing was a ketchup gone in a dungeon for a while you know, just really couldn't use some journey or Black Sabbath that's all I want to help to. I mean fun but it's pretty good. Which I think is rental right now. Yeah, just totally worth the money to rent us no problem there. Well, cool. Short and sweet. This was your pick this week. What did you choose? Well, buddy, enlightened. But have you chosen for us this week? Well, let me see what I have. I knew old one topic I meant. Oh, what are we talking about? It's November. And ah, then just November continues, right? This is ninja November volume three. I gotta tell you, volume three and four. Which I have no knowledge of yet. have definitely improved the films of wanting to while good. Yeah, this this film is 1984 2020 ones New York ninja abductions of young women are still being reported. Another woman with mysterious radiation burns has been discovered we're gonna have a baby. Oh my God. I believe that John's wife was murdered. You have to try and pull yourself together this sitios Well, what's that just can anyone do anything? We are strong on crime. And together we have the power. This is a big city. We're doing what we can tell the others I need you to help me I would, but I want them dead Brian is remanded thanks. Fever. We're going live with this these men murdered her because of what she saw. It's linked to these abductions. There's something weighing us down. It says Damn, Ninja Ninja is a real heroes you'll have to explain that. I definitely will. The Rotten Tomatoes on this is there's it's this is new enough that there are no fan. Oh, reap the act of there's 11 Critics reviews and it's at 100% Wow. Incredible this is I just have to say for those of you playing along or along at home. This is the second ninja film that has shown up 100% in Ninja November. Oh my gosh, the point originally. Okay, it's gonna be a toss possible to talk about if I save all the trivia for the end. So New York ninja. This is a movie that was discovered in vinegar syndromes vault. They go sometimes, and apparently just go to old movie houses or something and buy whatever 35 millimeter prints they have. And just take them all sometimes. And this movie was one of them that they acquired that way. Guy named Curtis speller asked about them while they're going through his archive stuff. And he was brand new. And they're like, well, it's movie called New York ninja was shot in 1984. There is no sound elements remaining. It's just the 35 millimeter reels. And there's no organ I mean, they're labeled but there's no organization we don't know what the organization is. We don't have like a spec script or something. Oh my god, this sounds like they're random reels like ah, so what he did, I'll go into a little more detail after I talked about the movie but basically what he did is he they got all the reels into their editing system started looking at it, figuring out what it could be and created a movie out of this footage. Okay. Movie was originally directed by John Lau, who was known for Dragon blood made in China and he did a lot of martial arts films. Yeah. And also the guy who recreated the film called Curtis Spealler. who's known for sheepskin and the devil as well. But he is a he's a film director and editor starring Michael Berryman. Just the voice so you might know him from the Hills Have Eyes, Weird Science. One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest. darious churchmen it also does a voice he's known for wingman and fruta love. Wayne Grayson. You may know Wayne Grayson, you know His voice. Several Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle projects as Michelangelo nice. And he also does many voices for Pokemon and Yugioh he's got like 187 credits and they're almost all shows that he's gotten multiple credits on I don't know how many things he's actually worked on. Wait a second. Are you telling me that they they hired actors to put words to the images that how could they tell without a script whatever you wrote a saying he went in any dubbed what he could he found out what he could? Fuck, I gotta see this is fascinating. Ginger Lin, probably won't make too many of her movies. I know. I'm Linnea Quigley, Cynthia Rothrock. And John looms Liu himself was dubbed by Don that dragon Wilson. Oh, nice. A lot of the people that got to do the voices were people that they worked with before with vinegar syndrome. They release their movies and stuff, so they had nice ins to get them on board. And he introduced John Curtis introduces a film on the blu ray giving you an idea of what's going on. also enjoyed a comment that you would appreciate that he's like, like, like that it was 1984 New York in New York are still kind of a pet. makes for a better ninja movie, I guess. Music is a great combo because they had to recreate the music too. So it's a great combo of 70s martial arts movies and 80s Cheese pop music it's it's really fun. Few minutes and I'm going wow, this is awful and fan tastic and to give you an idea of the opening scene is a side by side like button talking to each other have two people on a streaming man or woman and John's talking to his girlfriend and he's like hi I love you and so should we meet tonight and he walks away turns back by the way I love you he says I'm pregnant and then he does fit and you can tell that if Curtis rewriting it did pull he did some lip reading kind of stuff there is gonna ask okay, yeah, there are definite lines that are straight from the original actors. So that that was done and it's got he he didn't feel too bad about doing a ninja movie with voices being off for the lips because you know if you've ever watched if you if we've ever watched a ninja phone exact line but so you know, that was fun that of course, she immediately goes off and gets interrupted in a crime that's happening and for no reason whatsoever, the guy actually kills her instead of just stopping and this guy's unborn baby. Exactly. She grabbed a cough cufflink and held on to it as she died so he this his scene of grief is so powerful he's looking at this picture and crushes the glass and it continues to crush the ground classes and yes, I want to watch this movie immediately but guy putting it together he said we put it together as it was labeled an order and the movie made absolutely no sense whatsoever with him put in whatever order he went in it's a definite stretch. Make sense? So there's three groups of bad guys I think there's like a street game that is dressed in such wonderfully awful 80s Bad Guy street like my fit I think one of my favorite guys is a guy who's got this weird strip of fabric or something over his eyes. It's not like a mask of this holes it's just over his eye. And other guys that look like I'm gonna wear this so nobody sees me in this movie. The bane gang bad guy is beating up what looks threatening what looks like an 11 year old kid because you know your street kid I know you street kids got money give me what you got. Like it's a it's a cliche for a reason. And then there appears to be a another there's another storyline going on with what might be the bigger bad guy who's in the limo talking to the other guy in the limo who's once sounds like they want white women brought to them. slave women wait slave women or something? I don't know. sex slaves. Or something else. And the the tough guy in the front you can I don't know Telly stuff because he's got one of those rat tails. Oh, right. And when he gets frustrated, he takes the rat tail and chews on it. Oh my god, no. Oh, and the final bad guy is the plutonium killer. I believe he's Kob when it comes to seen as some guy holding a canister of like a chroma thing, you know, canister of something radioactive. And it starts to affect him and he starts to get all pili and his occasionally peels his face off and not great effects. And he's like a serial killer going around killing people. Like there's nothing going on in this film at all. It's like wait, and these all link up somehow? No, I don't. Oh, all right. I just wanted to declare the link would be that the New York ninja comes after all. I think it's probably just New York City in the in the 70s Like, there you go. That's the link. That's what it was like people, plutonium dudes and street gangs. So there's various groups of gangs like I was talking I'm not sure if they're all one gang or if they're separate gangs because they they look SOG the warriors were they all definitely match. And it's not like they look different enough as it's just as it's like, yeah, I guess that's a street gang. And John has to take matters into his own hands because of course the cops aren't helping him find who killed his wife. So he goes out and takes on four bad guys with throwing stars and they never even see him. Any takes on another group of games? on roller skates? Oh my god. Yes. Ah. This movie's awesome. He on roller skates are they are ninjas. It's ninja on roller skates. Oh my god, except for the one scene where he has to flip where you see him. He's skating into the scene. And he stops he's reg regular Shoes jumps over something. Next thing he skates out. Are they are they like black roller skates? No, no, they know that. I believe they're that kind of off brown tan one used to go to a roller skating rink. Yeah, the orange wheels No, I wouldn't be surprised if they went into a roller rink, rented the skates and just walked out for a bit. Yes, we'll be back in a couple hours. The gang car badass three of wood paneled station wagon. Oh, yeah. And there seems to be there's a lot of times he's doing ship and somebody is videotaping. It's I keep expecting to shoot to hey, this ninja guy is fighting a battle for the regular citizens in New York, but it never really goes there. Even though the other main characters are two reporters. Oh. Seems like a missed opportunity. Yes. And at one point in the movie, they pass a marquee for ninja three. The Domination? Darn right. I mean, if you're gonna drop a little song. Oh, and then he's friends with the reporter. She doesn't know he's the New York ninja John's friends with her though. And so he ends up traveling with them for some reason. There are not deep connections from scene to scene of why things happen. They drive by and just happen to cease a couple people getting attacked by a gang. So he pulls the Clark Kent thing and I'm going to go get some water or something and gets out and then the press notices and then he suddenly he like shows back up in a ninja costume and nobody can tell us the same Yeah, I got this. Then there's the strange scene which I'm assuming is connected to the guy in the limo that's trying to buy women where there's a whole bunch of women tied up in lingerie and steam tunnel kind of looking thing was some guy walking around just kind of being an asshole to Him. Jesus that's right and the next but when they when the press see him fight Next, he has New York ninja shuriken. Throwing stars. They're actually labeled darknet Jack Oh, another great badass guys outfit. His swimming goggles, neon green swim goggles. Oh, I like nothing says I'm here to fuck shit up. And wood paneled station was? Nothing. Nothing really makes that shiver go down the spine quite like. Yes, yes. And in case you don't think the gang guys on the street are bad enough, it goes back to kid again, with the gang actually starting to beat the shit. Like Jesus guys. But they're inspired by the New York ninja. So you know, you get a brief moment of a little gang of kitten and just sort of gang members to eventually meet the big bad guy. stuff doesn't go well for anybody. There's the movie. It doesn't have any kind of does it feel like it has a wrap up ending? Or? Yeah, yeah. I mean, if they did find the right reel to finish it. Yeah, but they do wrap up each individual thing. And they really don't connect. I guess the bad guys do meet the gang members. At one point, the guy who's the radiation killer shows up in relation to the guy who was in the limo. I'm not sure who was who. But you know, maybe watching it again, I could decipher the Oh man, I really, this is a vinegar syndrome that I think would be so fun to pick up. It's really nice. It's got a nice little booklet in it talking about the story and there was a second disc that I haven't had a chance to watch anything loaded with stuff and excited to get got this like two days before we're recording. I'm gonna watch it. He I said he took this stuff organized everything. Like his notes. He said at one point like, well, I'm putting everything to be other it's hard to tell what's going on. But luckily the film didn't seem overly complex. They said the biggest problem was that scene by scene he could he could see what's going on in the scenes he could understand how the scene needed to be written or as it was shot by real he could see what went together for a scene. But when went from scene to scene was not very obvious. And I think I mentioned before I put him he put them in as they're presented in reels and made absolutely no sense whatsoever. Now they tried to get a hold of John. He's still alive and you know, vinegar syndrome. These companies are great at finding people and they sort of found him. They weren't all the way I think he's living in a Asian coastal country. And they contacted a friend of his there and a friend said, The Good luck. Oh, and they were never able to connect with him after just it just dead end, he left moviemaking and was set fingers shortly after this film and he was just done. never did anything film wise again. And lives completely off the grid kind of guy. So just what you're gonna do an odd bonus for the film, because the film was supposed to be completed in 2020. Something probably delayed that. Wait, but because of that delay, they were because they originally gonna fly people to New York or LA to get in the studios record the audio. But now they could send the pro gear to whoever they wanted that they may not have been able to get before because of timing, but now they could get them. So they got a few of the voices like I think Don was one of them and that they weren't sure they're gonna be able to get but it because it COVID They're able to just send them the gear and hey, have fun. But and it sounds good. With the audio recording. They did a great job. One of the reviews I did come away with if canon films and Troma entertainment had a baby, it would be New York ninja. That's pretty accurate. So yeah, I enjoyed the hell out of this film. It does, like any quote unquote bad movie does drag a little bit at times a little, but it is so worth it. And John is so over the top and Don's dubbing of him is spot on. I had to look up to make sure they didn't actually get John to like, okay, no, they didn't find him. Right. But so if he's, I think he does a great job. So yeah, go see it. Did you? Did you get this for ninja November? Or was this already on the way deal? I was going to get it but I hadn't realized had been released. And I noticed that it was out going oh good is now because I think vinegar syndrome might owe us a little bit of money. Starting November, just for them even though they had a New York premiere and screaming. Anyways. So Vanessa, would you like to talk about? Yeah, Ninja November apps Take three. Well, let me let me give you a little hint as to what I'll be talking about. What is that? How dare you bring the Oculus thing into my home. This is a Raphael flinger. The reason why they're so prolonged is because you're supposed to fling it across the room and he says it as he flies through the air. So everything is extended at the end for far too long. That's I've never seen a sound thing where you pull the hand to make the sound. Pretty amazing looking toy. I did get this back when Toys R Us still existed. And I picked this little guy up and I flung him and I was like, I don't know how these things work. And he went over several aisles to go and scoop him up and be like, did anyone see that? Oh my god. I'm a grown us woman. And then he came home with me. So I love it. That's great. Yes. And plus I had to get Raphael because he's my least favorite and he was the only one I could bear to fling. Oh. But yes, that is all to say that the movie that I chose was Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 3/16 century Japan raised men right into battle fighting their only hope a golden center that can open the time. In their darkest dollar for great fighters from another time. Another place another species are expecting maybe the Addams Family they're back and they're back in time. Before he was defeated by ancestors, come back for me. My cannons can destroy these monsters. Bird well The worst rescue I've ever had was in the Manchester New Line Cinema presents the four greatest turtles job it's an adventure ever to go down in history. It's just your ordinary time travel Eagle master slave kids Ninja Turtles The turtle and I can't get but you skipped vanilla is like we all love and alive but there are only so many ninja November days and I wanted to make the most of them. Yes sure he's a goddamn national treasure. I really excited to hear about this because I have is this one where they go back in time it is. Tell me all about oh my gosh. So Kelly. i Okay. I was really worried because I saw this film when I was a kid. I was obsessed with Ninja Turtles. As you guys know. I'm well yeah, okay. All my sixth birthday, I got the four original package turtles action figures. And that was like my favorite toys until I could not play with toys anymore. So I loved all of them. All of the films all the anything I could get my hands on, and Ninja Turtles three, I had a t shirt for and still do. And I was shocked to hear as I got older, how many people thought it was GARBAGE. Instead, it was awful. And so I have not watched it again, since I had on VHS. And I was really, really concerned. So let's find out whether or not that was warranted. This movie came out in 1993. It has a rotten tomato percentage rating of 22% critics and 34% audience a little little love of audience. The budget was 21 million and the box office was 54.4. So it didn't do too shabby. writer director did both. He was a genius, Stuart Guillard you would know him as a producer for programs like charmed beauty in the beast TV series and 90210. He also directed 55 projects, including eight episodes of charge. He's worked on Jane the Virgin, the newer Beauty and the Beast also 20 episodes in 92 an hour and a lot. Just lots of TV stuff like TV movies, writer of 15 things, most notably the Sonny and Cher show in which he wrote 33 episodes. So that is a long ass career, man. Yeah, he's I think he's just got bored and he's like, You know what, I think I'm done writing. I'm going to swap over directing. Alright, I've done enough directing. I'm going to do some producing. He's just dabbled all over the place. And of course, this is based on the comic by he spent and learn. It is starring so last time I went through Digital's movie I did like all of the actors who played Ninja Turtles and the voice people. I'm only going to do the voice people this time. Oh, just know that there are people inside those suits and blossom. But it is starring is it Aeleus Kotas. Am I saying that right? I've never understood how to say it. Elia so yeah, Eli. I like the fucker. Awesome. He plays Casey Jones and wit. He's been in 9890 things including 106 episodes of Chicago PD, along with Chicago mad in Chicago Fire. I've talked about this man before. page turner as April O'Neil I have not talked about before because as we discussed previously, the first April meal did not make it past the first movie. Oh, that's right. Yeah, this person's real name is Paige Turner. Well, I can't say it's her real name. It's the name of which she is credited. Either her parents are evil or she's a little too clever, I guess. Never watched her. Thought about that until you said that right now. She's been in 46 things. She was most notably as probably. She played in the in the 100. As dr. Abigail Griffin. She was an 85 episodes of that. She was in something called agency. She was in some 18 episodes, a party of five. Some all my children. But most importantly, she was April on teenage mutant ninja turtles do which was her second acting role after building light soap opera. Stuart Wilson is the guy who plays a dude named Walker, aka ruffles. He's a white dude in feudal Japan He's been in at nine things he's a pretty well known British actor. He's been in Hot Fuzz mask Azuro Lethal Weapon three and lots of UK TV sab Shemona as Lord knowing, knowing Naga Jesus I'm sorry, he's been 122 things including Southland Tales and Waterworld. Vivian whoo as Mitsu the hot feudal Japanese lady. She's been an 83 things I've seen the pillow book. It was upsetting. She's spending last emperor and one episode of station 19 Lots of Chinese television she is not Japanese but she is Japanese in this movie. James Murray as Splinter by the way this gentleman he's been a 65 Things lots of vO lots of puppet work barbarian the troll Muppets Little Mermaid live performances. Muppets Most Wanted he was in Muppets Holiday Spectacular with Lady Gaga so this guy knows his stuff it's a little picture popped up I was like oh god Splinter is this going to be too tight? Foxy man, I was like alright sir. You are not what I expected. Well done. I didn't Hyundai as Kenshin who is like the prince in this there's there's quite a few it's quite an ensemble cast. I will say he's been in 42 things and on his IMDB. I had not heard of any of them. But it does say he does not just play samurai in many projects but has a family background of a line of samurai warriors in his past. So there you go. Robbie rust. These are the amazing voices of the TMT Robby rust does Michelangelo he's been in 156 things including Mikey in the first and second Nick TV series. He also played in Shark NATO as Robbie the bus driver. Brian Tocci, as Leo he has been in 99 things including in TMT one and two, as well as playing in Avatar The Last Airbender and many other very well loved animation animated series, Tim Heller as Raphael. He's been in 71 things he did not do Tim and T one and two, but was in Star Trek Next Generation and all good things. So that was plenty for me. He's done a lot of work on TV roles. And last but not least by any stretch of the imagination Corey Feldman as Donna Telo he's been 133 things including Lost Boys Goonies Stand By Me Bad News Bears and TMT one but not to, we might come back around that later. The story which I could not for life of me remember, I was not sure what was gonna happen in this other than they go back in time and I still have the action figures for this. So I know that there's like a lantern that they hold because I had a few of them, the better would be like trying to shove in their hands. The the plots, April is going on vacation. She visits the turtles drops by their sewer abode with some antiques and gifts to keep them busy while she is gone. Now remember people this is a kid's movie, there is not a lot that is gonna make sense or be very logical. So yes, she does bring them antiques. She did have her parents in an antique store on the first one. So maybe it all ties back together. I don't know. Michelangelo gets a lamp he puts it on Ted's very funny. One of those items is a scepter that she found for Splinter, which when she holds it, awakens and zaps her into ancient Japan. Meanwhile, in ancient Japan Lord Nora Naga is fighting with his son who has run away he's in love with a village rebel woman. He's angry with his father for using heinous war tactics and he's making a deal with some white trader guy who promises to deliver guns. So this is super unjust war and of course April and Kenshin this son Prince guy swap places and all of a sudden there is a feudal Japanese man in the sewer layer with a bunch of Turtles Splinter Splinter Splinter says like Ohio goes IMS or somebody any any passes out. So typical typical reaction faint when sea turtles now the turtles must go back to rescue her. They call up Casey and ask him to sit there and hold down the fort for Comic Relief. Donna Telo predicts when they go back four people will come back and change places with them and he is not wrong as soon as they go for honor guard warriors appear in their undies very hilarious and and the Turtles are back in time all on horses riding through a the middle of an end hence battle Kenshin is super pissed that the honor guard guys are who appeared because he hates them and he hates his dad and all that jazz. But Splinter brokers some peace. Now the turtles have 60 hours to find April and the scepter and return they immediately lose Mikey and the scepter. Shockingly, Michelangelo gets on a horse that goes hog wild and runs him into the woods somewhere. scepter is knocked out of his hands into the woods somewhere. He is found by some rebels, of course, along the way they make enemies with the white man who are who's selling the guns, who they love to call things like Zorro and Phantom of the Opera and all those fun zingers. There are a lot of high jinks people a lot. There's a lot of action and craziness and zaniness that happens. Lord Nuria Naga thinks that they are ancient demons, who apparently there is are actually ancient demons in Japanese culture that do look like turtles, he believes they've come back to curses family, and finish him off. Eventually, they do find April and they must figure out how to get themselves and the scepter back home. If they want to go home after all, the kappa i think is the turtle demon. Yes, that is it. Well, I will say having watched this movie now I know I just gave it a very silly, not enthusiastic rundown. But it was actually a surprisingly fun film. I was expecting it to be pure garbage based off of what literally everyone has said since I turned nine upwards. But it's actually really good. I mean, not really, really good. But it's like Ninja Turtles, it's it's on par with any of the other ones. I'll say this. This sounds like a very ambitious storyline for a low budget sequel. Um, they and it's funny too, because, well, there's a lot of reasons why they did what they did. This wasn't meant to be the third film, it was more more likely meant to be a fourth film, which I'll get into here in a bit. This was supposed to cap something off. But they thought it was going to be garbage and did not put much money into it. They didn't expect anyone to go see it. So I'm happy they made their money back. But they did not have any high hopes for it. It, it comes across, I think it's really well written. Now I don't mean as in the script is actually good. I mean, there's a lot in there. And it's very true to the turtles universe. There is constant stuff being said all the time. Like every time the turtles walk off together, they are still going back and forth about some thing. Half the time. They're just saying nonsense to fill the air. But a lot of times you're just like, wow, how much? How long was the script? Because this is insane how much dialogue they have crammed in here. It's definitely fun. Great. I think it's a pretty good kids movie. There's a couple of really lovely scenes. There's there's one that I remembered watching when I was a kid where Casey has the four honor guardsmen and he's teaching them about American culture. And he's trying to prevent them from going out up into the out of the sewers and scaring people and getting lost. And so he gets them to watch hockey on TV, and then starts teaching them about hockey. And so he sets him up and he's like, Okay, now we're gonna play it down here. Now that you guys have seen it on TV. Let's see what you got. And they immediately start punching each other. I mean, it's a low level of humor, but it's sweet. It's a really sweet film. I think that the set design in their lair looks great. There are a lot of pop references. I don't love the pop references. As I've gotten older, there's like a Simpsons dough in there. There's a Wayne's World, inappropriate showing moments really upsetting by the way, April cuts off a bunch of her ancient feudal Japanese dress where she like cuts off the bottom and it looks like a mini skirt. And she's like, what, I'm on vacation and they're like, whoa, and then they do the swing thing. And it's really, really upsetting as an adult. Also make Terminator two perfect. I mean, there's so many in here. It's really hard to pay attention to the plot. I was trying extremely hard, because there's just an insane constant amount of fighting and zingers and I'm like wait, who are we fighting now? Where are we? Are we like happy with these people? We're not happy with these people what's going on? The thing I don't like their their new turtle costumes are pretty gross looking. Because their faces. They look really cartoony and like toothy. They like giant teeth. And it's really gross to look at all the time. Every time their lips move. It's just a giant fucking like Chiclet teeth that you're staring at that I didn't love. Um, but no overall overall, I would definitely recommend checking it out. I don't Don't think it's worse than the second one by any means. The second one's ridiculous. And this is also ridiculous. And the first one isn't not ridiculous. So you're in good hands. You can't be snobby and be like the first one was the good one. No people, they're all not that good. Like they're, they're good for kids. Um, a little bit of trivia. So this is based, loosely based off of the story called masks from issue number 46. Through 47 of the original Mirage Comics. The story features the turtles and Renee traveling back to feudal Japan to fight an evil Shogun, and engage in samurai battles. It's often erroneously thought to be subtitles, subtitled turtles and time, it actually does not have that subtitle. I thought that so I was thrilled to hear this. This confusion is likely due to the fact that in the early 90s, not long before this movie, there was a popular video game that had been released in arcades and later at home consoles called Ninja Turtles, Turtles in Time, which by the way, is one of the best video games on planet Earth. So get that for sure. If you don't have it, play it right now. Stop this podcast, go play it. It's great. Some of this. Some of the film's later DVD cases actually have the incorrect title as turtles three Turtles in Time as well. Starting starting in this film, all effects company took over and worked on the animatronic effects for the Turtles and Splinter costumes, so Jim Henson's Creature workshop no longer worked on this. Mark Casio the performer inside of the Leonardo costume is the only cast member to return from ninja turtles to secret of the ooze. Yeah, but like I said, there's there's a lot of strange like some of them are here. Some of them aren't here, Corey Feldman, I think is the most interesting. The producers invited Corey Feldman to reprise his role from the first film as Donatello. The filmmakers told Cory they felt bad about not casting him and turtles too. However, when Cory asked for more money than the$1,500, he was paid for turtles one, Cory was told, yeah, but you were in rehab. Cory was denied the race and again got paid only $1,500 Wow. Rough so this one was originally going to be followed by a fourth installment in the franchise, which was TMT the next mutation. So I guess this was supposed to be the third. In this concept the ooze that trans transformed the Turtles and Splinter was still in their bodies causing a much more drastic second mutation. Another plan that was discussed was to add a fifth turtle named Kirby named after the comic artists Jack Kirby. However, the project got stuck in development and plans for a fourth theatrical live action movie fell apart. The concept of having the turtles mutate into creatures did see the light of day in new the new mutation saga. In 1987 cartoon later the live action next mutation installment moved to TV and a live action series produced by the bond called Ninja Turtles The next mutation in 1997. But yeah, the series delivered on the promise of a fifth turtle but changed it to a female turtle named Venus de Milo. I don't love but that's okay. After painting. I mean, it's I guess so. It's a weird choice, but I haven't actually you know what, I haven't read the Venus sections of the comics, so I shouldn't be too harsh. Have either of you. Alright, love the small laugh. Alright, Vaness I'm only gonna let you do 20 more minutes of trivia and just see what else is worth talking about in the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles franchise. Mizzu was supposed to appear as one of the fighters in the Super Nintendo game TMT Tournament Fighters in 1993. However, the character in the game was renamed Oska for literally no reason. On other versions of the blu ray DVD case of this movie, instead of the scepter you'll see a sword which alludes to an earlier plot involving a magic sword that got pulled. And last but not least piece of trivia I am getting out of here. I probably man, I was like, Wow, this has so much less trivia than the first one. The animatronic heads of Michelangelo and Leonardo from the movie are now in the hands of the obsessed turtle fan named Michelle IV. She bought them for 3800 US dollars. That's 800 bucks more than Corey Feldman got for playing in both the movies. Okay, are you done? I am done. Okay, yeah, here all right, nice. Oh, sorry. Didn't put him down. He's still going. Hey, Vanessa, do you like The new turtle movies the big no questions. No God no. Do you? I don't think I've washed them. Oh, they're awful they they're not turtles now they're aliens. Oh, all right. Remember that alone should tell you not to see these movies. Yeah. Okay, teenage, alien. Teenage Mutant it's okay because they make a lot of erection jokes and those two so aliens are much better for the third not mutants anymore they're not anyways. Alright, well I chose for my third week of ninja November from 1995 the hunted I was born in Kyoto. My mother was of Chinese descent. I am known by reputation my skill is unmatched only been in Japan on business and I thought you and I could do a little sightseeing. Sounds nice. But it's impossible. have killed 100 men and women never hesitated before you kill me, let me see your face you're half dead and you're the only witness to a murder foreignness alive by me he's had some food waste helping him is a decision I can save between him and me. Tired of running away this set a budget of $20 million in a box office of just under seven. Oh Rotten Tomatoes critics give it 8% The audience gives it 53% It Was Written and directed by JF Lawton who wrote pretty woman under siege and he directed up so it's a VIP and one of Vanessa's favorite movies. Cannibal women in the avocado jungle of death. I do love avocados that's why I thought that I have you guys seen or even heard heard of this movie, but I have not seen it. It stars Christopher lamb bear. Oh is from Greystoke The Legend of Tarzan fortress and of course plays Connor MacLeod in all of the Highlander movies. It all stars John lone who is from your the dragon the last emperor, the Chateau you would know this guy, very famous Chinese actor very handsome. And Joan Chen, who was in steel justice On Deadly Ground, but will probably most always be remembered as Jocelyn Packard in Twin Peaks. Oh, so this is a this is a very 1995 ninja movie. They all are. Yeah, cuz Phil and bear plays Paul who is on a business trip to Nagoya. He is a computer chip executive. I hope he has a gray suit with big shoulder pads for startups. He's from New York. And he's there in Japan and he meets this beautiful, mysterious woman in the bar and they hit it off and then they have a one night stand in up in her hotel room and he falls immediately for her because she's Joan chin. She's very pretty. But she tells him that they can never see each other again. So he's like, I get it. You're married and she's like, No, and you got a boyfriend? No, but we just can't see each other again. We never will see each other again. I'm sure that's true. And he then kind of dejectedly leaves a room and when he's in the elevator going down you realize oh, wait, if so got the room key. So he goes back up to the room, opens the door and walks in on her being assassinated by a group of what do you guys think? Pizza delivery guys. Close clowns. Closer. It's ninjas. Okay, good. That's the movie that we're talking about. Right? I have seen this film. Have you seen that? Yes. Okay. So he sees them cut her head off. Oh my god. He's runs towards that. He's like no, and they they basically kill him. They slashed his throat leave him for dead and and then escape. Like ninjas in the night. My god bless Turns out, he is not dead. The cops show up there and they're like, Oh, this guy's still alive. So they rushed him to the hospital. And they start kind of grilling him there at the hospital about what's going on. And he's telling them, it was ninjas. And they're like, but what really is going on, sir, because ninjas do not exist. Like I swear to God. And one of the cops though realizes, wait, there have been a rash of these assassinations of everything. And nobody's ever known what this main guy looks like. Oh, Christopher Lambert, look at his face. So. So now they're like, We got to protect this guy, because we have a feeling that, you know, they might come back for him. Does he wear a scarf through the whole rest of the foam to hide his giant scar? He has a big huge Yeah, he does have a big scarf versus a big huge bandage. And then it's a big scarf. Beautiful. But yeah, so he soon realizes that he has been targeted for assassination himself. He, he ends up hooking up with a friendly samurai couple. Oh, keep in mind you guys. This is current Japan. I'm not talking about feudal Japan say New York, Japan, just walking around the streets present day Japan and these couple this couple they live their lives under the Code of bushido. Alright. So they take him in, and they help him recuperate and also teach him the ways of the sort which he will need for his final concentration with the ninja coat later. Also doesn't hurt that he has done a lot of sword training for all the Highlander movies before the cervix it up pretty quickly. You guys this movie is ridiculous. And quite honestly, it feels like it was written by a 12 year old. Just like mine, it is so stupid. We find out that the samurai couple are part of a centuries old feud between the ninja clan and the samurai clan. So there's that going on. There are a couple of pretty good set pieces action set pieces that I was like, Oh, this is this is cool. So when Lambert lamb bear is in the hospital after his initial throat slashing. He's got a cop in his room as you know the guard and then there's a couple of cops outside. And he's telling the cop about you know, he's worried about this. You know what about the ninjas that are after me and the guys like there's no such thing as ninjas, and then just that an arrow flies through the window and kills the cop. And with his dying breath. No lie he says I could be wrong. Lamba grabs his gun and the ninjas are like swarming all over the hospital and the cops are getting killed and everything and he only kind of accidentally escapes. And it's it's pretty it's pretty good scene, there's a little girl is a taxicab and all of this stuff, and he ends up kind of hiding in one of those Pachinko palaces or whatever, there was just those, you know, hundreds of those games going on all this light and sound and all this shit. And then of course, some bullets are flying and the game start exploding, so lots of steel balls rolling all over the place. There's also a really, really cool fight scene on a moving train, where there are just tons of ninjas, and he now has the samurai a couple protecting him. So he's basically backing his way through all of these train cars. And the the ninjas are killing people left and right cops and all that stuff. And then they get to the samurai couple and then it is fucking on because these guys are just as good as the ninjas and all of that shit. Oh, there's some bullshit about how they realize oh, the samurai couple isn't really trying to help him. The samurai couple have been trying to kill this ninja leader forever so they're using him as bait and all that stuff. It actually kind of muddies the story and but what are you gonna do? It's it's 8% on Rotten Tomatoes, you guys. I actually liked this movie quite a bit. I have a real soft spot for Christopher lamb bear and his bizarre fucking accent. Yeah. Is weird is his weird eyes and his his machine gun laugh I didn't know I was just the right age for him. A little man crush. I do have a little bit of trivia here. Some exterior shot in Japan but the majority of the film was shot in Vancouver BC. It's 1995. extras were called in for a bunch of the big scenes and they were paid $10 an hour. However, if they were given a speaking part, thus technically becoming an actor. They're paid jumped for a For up to $1,000 a day. Oh, wow. Which is a nice little jump if you're just showing up as an extra I could see where some people today might take offense at the fact that Hong Kong native John lone is playing a Japanese character this. But if you take offense at that, I would also say then that Christopher lamb bear should not be playing a New York guy. Cuz he's French. He's French. It's just like, why couldn't he just be a French person in Japan, New York, or in Japan? Yes. Yeah, that makes it even weirder. Yeah, it's it's the movies just full of this kind of bullshit. That's really all I've got on this except for a couple of sweet taglines. You guys. Oh, yeah. He's trapped in a world where killing is an art and revenge is an obsession. Trapped in a world. Always good. About this, the hunted one night of passion. Centuries of hate. The battle has begun. Oh my god. It rarely makes sense. I don't know I burned through this, but that's because I thought it was actually fairly decent and fun. I don't think it's I don't think it's New York ninja levels of fun, but I can't say that with any authority having not seen it. Five minutes from now. But I don't know there was something there was some real charm with this film. It's it's really bad at I feel like the writer who was Geoff Lawton. I feel like he maybe wrote this in high school and he just been dying. You know? He's like, he's like, Oh, what do you got after a pretty woman? He's got something called the hunted. What else? What else have you got? He got under siege? I guess. Yes. We'll take that one. You know? Finally they give him the hunted. This is just like, I'm not going to change a goddamn word from when I was 12. It was perfect, then it's perfect. Now under siege is Seagal his best film? It's a good movie. It's worth well geez, you guys. Only one week left and Ninja November. Whose choice? I think it's yours, Vanessa. Oh, if Oh, that's it shouldn't because I've got the one after this. Ah, yes, then it is my choice. I wonder what I shall choose railroads. Now. I'm contractually obligated to pick ninjas. I know. I'm gonna go ahead and go with that. And just Oh, okay. Thanks. Yeah, I, you know, I know we haven't really addressed that much so, but you know, yeah, let's let's give it another swing and see if we get any more hitters. I've got one in mind already. Go ninja. Go. That means that this is the part where I say thanks to everybody who's liking sharing posts sharing when the episodes come out. It's just reaching out and talking to us about episodes. We got a nice little group text from Gwen Callahan. Oh, yeah, she was talking about a movie and it gave us an idea for a possible episode. Glenn was supposed to have her own podcast by now. And his back. Yeah, not happening at all. But I will say this, when I'll give you this one for free. It should come out every Wednesday and the podcast should be called Wednesday. Oh my god. Oh, she's actually pretty exciting. It is pretty exciting. And I'm looking forward to it. Now. Every time I see her I'm gonna think of that. I could be Wednesday. Speaking of exciting. Might some people be able to see us live and in person here in a few weeks? Just a couple of weeks? Yeah, we somehow we just chill. at Emerald City Comic Con. Oh, that's gonna be very cool. And Vanessa, what are we going to be talking about? Um, so we are going to be talking about bad comic film adaptations. So not bad comic books, but comic books that when they got adopted into film for the silver screen did not turn out so good. Well, that's probably a very short list, but I'm sure we can find something. I know. I was thinking gosh, man, I really pinned us in a corner with that one. But um, yeah. And so if you're going to be at Emerald City, Comic Con, we will be there on Friday. I don't know the room number. But we'll be there from I believe 630 or 645. I think he said 645. Yeah, you'll be able to see our lovely faces. I gotta say hats off to you Vanessa for store. Nice. This good. Yes. Vanessa just reached out to us and said, Hey, would you guys want to do a panel at Emerald City and I was like, what they want us to do? Why would they want us and then the next thing we heard was, we're doing a panel. Yeah. Well, I see I really like not paying to go to the conventions I love to be at. And so sometimes you'll see a little thing that pops up that's like applied to be on a panel. And ours I actually applied for a few and ours was the only one that got it. So there's something about us that they were really excited for. I need to Yeah, I'm so excited. For those of you who don't know, Emerald City Comic Con is more of a pop convention. It's not really comics very much anymore. But it is huge. It's one of the largest conventions in the northwest and it can be a lot of fun. Yeah, yeah. A lot of cool stuff to see. And by you know what you want to do before you go yes, one of the things I have stopped going there, because I think the numbers got up to somewhere like 70,000 last time and I was like, that's a lot of fucking people. I typically go on Thursday and I just go when the least number of people are going to be there Yeah, and then I hit up all the comic area and go nowhere else it just go to Bali and the comic book people and I'm like, Here sign my copy. That's all Yes. Well, if you see a Sir, please say hi. I'm sure that Eric will be bringing a couple of coins down here. We'll and we'll be talking about you know, comic book movies that went bad. Before then though. We're gonna be talking about ninjas. Oh, yeah. Next week. Yeah. And and I think that's it for this episode. I guess you're as excited as we are about another ninja episode. I can't wait. I feel like we should record it right after this one. However. Our show is recorded somewhere high above Naval Station Everett at the nexus of all realities, and is engineered and produced by Eric Margaret. Our theme music is strange aeons part one by the band nice shade, as usual permission. Find strange aeons radio on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. Wherever find podcasts. I do love avocados.
