358 OMENPALOOZA!
Existential dread in the form of an animated mouse cartoon is on the gang's mind, but then they get into the first of the Omen franchise (which, ironically, is NOT "The First Omen"...)
Also discussed: Colony, X-Men '97, Lee Cronin's The Mummy.

Speaker 6
Every time I'm like,
[01:00:27:10 - 01:00:28:16]
Speaker 6
maybe I'll watch it, somebody's like, oh, I wouldn't watch it right now.
[01:00:31:11 - 01:00:39:17]
Speaker 2
Strange eons. Welcome to strange eons radio. That's Eric over there. Yo, that's Vanessa over there.
[01:00:39:17 - 01:00:40:08]
Speaker 4
Hello.
[01:00:40:08 - 01:00:43:09]
Speaker 2
I am Kelly. Uh, gang
[01:00:44:22 - 01:00:45:22]
Speaker 2
couple of weeks ago.
[01:00:47:07 - 01:00:53:02]
Speaker 2
So Eric and I belong to a group that is a affectionately called the backpack.
[01:00:53:02 - 01:00:55:08]
Speaker 3
What? Okay.
[01:00:55:08 - 01:01:26:12]
Speaker 2
It's, uh, men who were on the original board of Crypticon when it started. And, uh, most of us have gotten off that Eric is the soul of my ride. Well, Steve, um, still helps out and we, we still get together and do stuff. Um, when we can't always do it at the convention or we want to do something other than the convention, we get together and we got together a couple of weeks ago at Steve Lang's house, um, which resulted in Vanessa getting a chunk of star log magazines.
[01:01:26:12 - 01:01:27:10]
Speaker 3
Thank you.
[01:01:27:10 - 01:01:42:21]
Speaker 2
Um, and it's just a time, a chance for us to all hang out, eat some pizza, drink, um, play with the dog, watch some silly movies and everything. This time we watched them. What are we called? This is not the movie I want to discuss, but I just wanted to bring it up because I think everyone needs to see it. Decorado.
[01:01:42:21 - 01:01:43:23]
Speaker 27
What?
[01:01:43:23 - 01:02:20:01]
Speaker 2
Which is a foreign animated film about a, um, it's a, I guess you would call them. Anthrop anthro, anthropomorphic animals, but it is not a funny animal movie. It is a, Jesus. It is a existential depressing story of a mouse who's struggling with life right now and what's going on and his mouse wife and uh, the various other animals that live in this town that is being slowly beaten down by a giant corporation.
[01:02:20:01 - 01:02:21:00]
Speaker 4
Oh my God.
[01:02:22:01 - 01:02:25:10]
Speaker 1
Usually we do these and it's like a woofy fun.
[01:02:25:10 - 01:02:36:19]
Speaker 2
We'll pick a bad movie usually, but this is not a bad movie. This was an amazing movie, but it was also, well, we're at the end. We were all a little shell shocked going, this is not what I expected from this because Steve picks out and curates the movies.
[01:02:36:19 - 01:02:38:15]
Speaker 3
What country was this out of?
[01:02:38:15 - 01:03:02:18]
Speaker 2
I'm going to guess it was a Spanish speaking country because I think I saw a few words there that I was like, okay, this has got to be, it's not like the newspaper. Yeah. This has got to be either Mexico or Spain or you know, South America somewhere. It sounds wild. It was wild and I, and I'm stressing anybody. If you've got any interest in these kinds of weird animated foreign films, this film is called Decorado
[01:03:03:18 - 01:03:07:22]
Speaker 2
and I mean, it's got an ending where we were all just like, Jesus Christ, what?
[01:03:10:00 - 01:03:13:22]
Speaker 1
And it's, uh, we watched it dubbed and said a subtitle.
[01:03:13:22 - 01:03:22:15]
Speaker 2
And it was fantastic. English dubbing. These guys were acting their asses off. Whoever it was. I wonder if it was the same as the voice actors.
[01:03:22:15 - 01:03:23:21]
Speaker 1
I wouldn't be a bit surprised.
[01:03:23:21 - 01:03:43:02]
Speaker 2
Yeah. Hmm. It was just, it was just really, really good. And I wanted to just drop that out there and also say, uh, how much fun it is to hang out with these guys. We've known forever. Nick Gucker and Steve Lang, no, Matt Fora. This time he could not make it rough personal. That's okay. Yeah. Every once in a while. We
[01:03:44:05 - 01:03:46:10]
Speaker 2
don't get everybody together, but it's fun.
[01:03:48:14 - 01:03:54:02]
Speaker 2
That's called Decorado. I'm not sure how Steve got it. So I don't know if it's streaming somewhere or if he had it downloaded.
[01:03:54:02 - 01:04:00:14]
Speaker 1
Pretty sure it's 2B. I think there are ads and they have ads too. Oh no, that was the next movie. Yeah. So yeah, I don't know where it was.
[01:04:02:12 - 01:04:07:17]
Speaker 2
Well, speaking of new films, uh, I saw Colony.
[01:04:09:01 - 01:04:10:08]
Speaker 3
What's, what's Colony?
[01:04:10:08 - 01:04:43:12]
Speaker 2
Colony, if you haven't been aware, is the new South Korean zombie film that the trailer looks amazing. The movie is not as amazing, but still quite good. A very different kind of telling where the zombie, the zombie creatures are kind of hive-minded. And so, um, they communicate kind of telepathically. Once one of them understands something, they all kind of understand it. And they do it in a weird thing. They suddenly throw their mouths open and you hear this
[01:04:45:06 - 01:05:19:20]
Speaker 2
sound. And you can see that, oh, information is being, uh, disseminated between all of these things. And, um, and there are some very creepy scenes where like a group of them, like connect up to each other and block a, a hallway or a doorway or something. It's just these limbs and faces looking out and all of that. Um, and it was pretty, it was pretty good. It didn't go as scary as I was hoping from the beginning. The beginning scenes are very scary. And then, um, as often happens as the scary gets explained, it becomes less scary.
[01:05:19:20 - 01:05:20:05]
Speaker 4
Yeah.
[01:05:20:05 - 01:05:41:04]
Speaker 2
But, um, but it's all over the place. It's coming out. It's actually called something else, but it's coming out under the title colony right now. So, um, look forward, if you like that, uh, that creepy South Korean zombie stuff, you know, at least it's not always just the running zombies, you know, that we get over here in America.
[01:05:41:04 - 01:05:42:22]
Speaker 1
Was sadness Korean?
[01:05:44:05 - 01:05:45:07]
Speaker 1
I think so.
[01:05:46:09 - 01:05:54:22]
Speaker 2
That was one that was just horrible though. Was that Japanese? Oh, that actually explains because it is so fucking dark and depressing. It makes more sense to be
[01:05:54:22 - 01:05:59:21]
Speaker 3
on my list for so long. And I, it's never that seen it. No, cause it's never the right time. I'm never in the right.
[01:05:59:21 - 01:06:01:16]
Speaker 2
Don't watch it where you're feeling emotional.
[01:06:01:16 - 01:06:06:09]
Speaker 3
Maybe I'll watch it. Somebody's like, Oh, I wouldn't watch it right now.
[01:06:06:09 - 01:06:08:03]
Speaker 2
Man, the sadness is dark.
[01:06:08:03 - 01:06:17:05]
Speaker 3
So, um, well, I watched something less dark. Um, silo season three has started.
[01:06:17:05 - 01:06:19:09]
Speaker 1
I've only seen the first episode.
[01:06:19:09 - 01:06:22:23]
Speaker 3
Oh, okay. Yeah. I think there are four, five episodes.
[01:06:22:23 - 01:06:24:04]
Speaker 1
Yeah. There's a bunch out.
[01:06:24:04 - 01:06:24:22]
Speaker 3
Yeah.
[01:06:24:22 - 01:06:27:14]
Speaker 1
I watched the first one. It's like, I feel like I want to watch this.
[01:06:29:01 - 01:06:29:17]
Speaker 3
All at once.
[01:06:29:17 - 01:06:30:03]
Speaker 1
Yeah.
[01:06:30:03 - 01:06:52:18]
Speaker 3
I almost recommend that because it's tough. They do. That's the classic thing. That's infuriating where they want to rewind the tension a little bit and draw things out. So, um, our main character, I'm forgetting her name now. Um, uh, Juliet, Julia, something like that. She has magically forgotten everything.
[01:06:52:18 - 01:06:53:05]
Speaker 4
Yeah.
[01:06:53:05 - 01:07:11:12]
Speaker 3
And has become mayor of this area. And you're like, wait, what, what is happening in your silo? What about with everything with the new silo? Um, and they're doing a lot of AB plot and the B plot is, um, kind of more our timeline, uh, Washington DC.
[01:07:12:16 - 01:07:13:13]
Speaker 3
Maybe.
[01:07:13:13 - 01:07:14:12]
Speaker 1
Yeah, maybe.
[01:07:14:12 - 01:08:14:05]
Speaker 3
Maybe. Yeah. So it's been, it's been kind of a little bit of a slog for a couple of episodes, but I think now it's really picking up. So I would say like, if you kind of stick with it, it's frustrating to be like, I know this character. I love this character. Why does it suck? And we have to sit here watching her not be incredible. Um, you do get to a certain pivot point where everything starts to like just move. And, um, and I'm really excited because I was like, why the fuck do we keep doing this weird B plot? And it keeps cutting between them. And then, uh, my husband was like, what if they're happening at the same time, which cannot be the case because of various things. But I was like, you know what? We don't know when this is, we don't know how old the silo really is. So you start to question like, what, what is this timeline? When are things occurring? What is the reality of like their situation? Cause there's a lot of lies going around. So, um, yeah, I'm really enjoying it.
[01:08:14:05 - 01:08:26:00]
Speaker 1
It's kind of like when it's reached that point in the books, I remember reading where the first book, a half or so just like, wow. And then it got to that point where I think it is now, I was kind of like,
[01:08:27:08 - 01:08:38:23]
Speaker 1
oh, you've run out of your direct story of what you started with wool and now you want to expand it. And overall it's good. But at the same time, I remember going, okay, this is a little less interesting.
[01:08:38:23 - 01:08:40:02]
Speaker 4
You read them.
[01:08:40:02 - 01:08:41:15]
Speaker 1
Yeah. It's been a long time, but
[01:08:41:15 - 01:08:44:12]
Speaker 3
you probably know where all of it's going.
[01:08:44:12 - 01:08:56:05]
Speaker 1
All of it going. I remember some of it, but the first book's the one I remember the most because I said that was just and they've done most of that story. Yeah. But, uh,
[01:08:56:05 - 01:09:05:05]
Speaker 3
we'll see. I know. Yeah. Well, I have wool on my bookshelf and I keep looking at going, I want to read this, but I also, I
[01:09:05:05 - 01:09:06:19]
Speaker 1
don't want to be okay to start it now.
[01:09:06:19 - 01:09:15:08]
Speaker 3
I could, but I feel like I don't want to, cause once I read one, I'm going to want to read everything. Yeah, that's true. And then I'm really, it's going to be an unstoppable
[01:09:15:08 - 01:09:35:04]
Speaker 1
series of books. Plus he, he farmed out the idea to writers. Somebody wanted to do a wool based silo based story. He would give them permission and the best of them he compiled like into a, I don't remember if it was an online thing or if he actually published a book. They
[01:09:37:01 - 01:09:50:12]
Speaker 1
were good. Anyway, so I'm delaying a little bit cause I watched a God awfully depressing film. This is part of the 100 days of horror. Yeah. This, but this was a side thing. It's like, okay, I've watched,
[01:09:52:11 - 01:09:53:18]
Speaker 1
uh, leprechaun and
[01:09:54:23 - 01:10:04:12]
Speaker 1
let's take a breather. I watched a streaming on a criterion channel, the cremator, the cremator, which is a 1969 Czechoslovakian film.
[01:10:06:08 - 01:10:30:06]
Speaker 1
It's horror adjacent, calling it horse, probably a stretch, but it was listed that way. And you know how it is when you look shit up. Uh, it's a dark, dark story of a cremator who kind of, in modern terms kind of wants to be an influencer, you know, cause it opens with him at a party talking to all the people and telling them, or at least you should do this to get more
[01:10:31:07 - 01:10:48:12]
Speaker 1
attention or something. And working the party as like, he's the big guy. And, uh, you realize he's, they do a great scene to let you know, this guy's very superficial or he sees this painting that he wants to put in it or a drawing of a famous leader.
[01:10:49:16 - 01:11:01:08]
Speaker 1
And he said, Oh, it's so-and-so. And the guy who's selling the painting said, no, no, that's not, that's whatever it's like. And the guy's like, nobody will know, just put some tape over the name. And that cause I want to hang it as that guy. Oh.
[01:11:02:09 - 01:11:22:15]
Speaker 1
And, uh, so he's always always trying to climb the ladder and climb the ladder and eventually figure out he's climbing the ladder into joining the Nazi party. Oh shit. And it's just really good film. So I don't really want to say, I'm not going to say how it ends because I think it's well worth watching, but it is on. It's cremated. No,
[01:11:24:06 - 01:11:27:20]
Speaker 1
that would have been nice. But crematoriums are part of the,
[01:11:29:06 - 01:11:29:18]
Speaker 1
but
[01:11:30:19 - 01:11:39:13]
Speaker 1
how he gets to be accepted by the Nazis is so fucking dark and evil. Just the idea he does,
[01:11:40:21 - 01:11:45:09]
Speaker 1
to be with the cool popular kids, quote unquote, he's going to do whatever he has to.
[01:11:45:09 - 01:11:46:00]
Speaker 4
Yeah.
[01:11:47:02 - 01:12:12:12]
Speaker 1
And, uh, what he has to do starts with some killing and then the people he ends up killing and all this stuff. Like Jesus Christ, this fucking son of a bitch. And while he's doing this, you can see he's living in this weird delusional world where he doesn't quite accept what he's doing because of what he's going to get in the end. All the stuff he does doesn't matter. And he's like, Jesus, God, this is
[01:12:13:20 - 01:12:22:01]
Speaker 1
disturbingly relevant. It's a hard times in many ways. And it was just rough. What? Wow.
[01:12:22:01 - 01:12:31:09]
Speaker 2
Is he treated as a protagonist in the story or are we okay? It's so he's, we're aware that he is doing bad things and all that.
[01:12:31:09 - 01:12:35:00]
Speaker 1
At first he's just sort of quirky and weird, but you understand there's,
[01:12:36:18 - 01:12:46:20]
Speaker 1
the guy that plays him is Peter Laurie adjacent. He's a kind of unusual guy. His performance is astounding.
[01:12:46:20 - 01:12:47:09]
Speaker 4
Okay.
[01:12:47:09 - 01:13:03:19]
Speaker 1
Um, but, uh, cause he sees the Nazi party like getting money in there, but the women and all this stuff and he's like, I want to be a part of this. But he can't be until he does some stuff. And it's just like, Oh my God. It's really good. It's an incredibly well done film.
[01:13:04:22 - 01:13:11:16]
Speaker 1
And, uh, if I'd say if you're remotely interested, watch it, but it's not going to, it's not, it's not a feel good film.
[01:13:11:16 - 01:13:14:16]
Speaker 2
It does not sound like it. I can't wait to never watch this movie.
[01:13:16:02 - 01:13:22:12]
Speaker 3
It sounds super interesting. And maybe when I'm in an art streak, I'll check it out. That would be a good time. Yeah.
[01:13:24:18 - 01:13:28:06]
Speaker 2
Uh, the cremators on the criterion channel. Okay.
[01:13:29:08 - 01:13:36:20]
Speaker 2
I watched something very different. Um, on prime is a movie that I was like, I'll give this a shot. Uh, Ick,
[01:13:38:00 - 01:13:46:08]
Speaker 2
I see K. I've got Brandon, Brandon Ruth and Mina Savari in it. And I was like, all right, let's watch this. And, um,
[01:13:47:12 - 01:14:21:22]
Speaker 2
for the most part, it's really delightful. It is a horror comedy about a town. I think the entire world might be having this problem, but this town is where we're focused that has something called the ick. And it's just growing over everything. It's kind of a moldy black substance. And, um, we start in the nineties when Brandon Ruth and Mina Savari are in high school together and he's a, uh, he's a quarterback and she's like, you know, a cheerleader prom princess and all this stuff. And of course,
[01:14:23:03 - 01:14:38:00]
Speaker 2
he gets injured by the ick. Nobody believes him that this is how his leg was broken. And then we come up through a couple of scenes to the present and he is, uh, kind of a loser around town, you know, because he didn't get his scholarship to go to high school.
[01:14:39:14 - 01:14:57:20]
Speaker 2
And, uh, he decides though, that's something needs to be done about the ick. And he's got a particular student that is his, um, his ex-girlfriend's daughter that he's always like, Hey, how's your mom doing? And she's like, fine. How's your mom? He's like, dead.
[01:15:00:00 - 01:15:07:13]
Speaker 2
There's this weird kind of situation between them. Um, and I won't, I won't give away how it all goes, but
[01:15:08:16 - 01:15:19:01]
Speaker 2
for the most part, it's very clever. There's a lot of very funny lines in it and good delivery. I just like Brandon Ruth. I think he's a neat actor. Um, there is a
[01:15:20:03 - 01:15:53:05]
Speaker 2
prolonged scene where he and this young girl are stuck in a car that the ick has kind of taken over and they have this discussion that I'm like, this scene should have been cut, you know, by a few minutes or out completely. It doesn't need to be here. Just slams the brakes on the movie and you're sitting there in this car while they have this discussion. And I'm like, did you think ick? No, I mean, there's, there's a couple of things like that where her boyfriend is like, Hey, old man, why are you talking to this young girl? And, and it's never, it's never that.
[01:15:53:05 - 01:15:54:05]
Speaker 4
That's good.
[01:15:54:05 - 01:16:09:21]
Speaker 2
Um, but this, this discussion they have could have been a couple of lines and then we get back to the movie and instead I don't know what's going on at the writer or the director is just like, I am fucking in love with this shot and I'm going to let this go.
[01:16:09:21 - 01:16:13:02]
Speaker 3
This was the first thing I wrote and this is why I made this movie.
[01:16:13:02 - 01:16:35:19]
Speaker 2
Yeah. So, but other than that, uh, the problem is I'm having a good time. This happens and goes on so long. I'm about ready to go. I guess I'm done with this movie and then it ends and then it gets back on track. And by the end I was like, this was a lovely little movie except for this big, bad scene. Um, anyhow, it's called ick. It's on prime. And I think it's worth it.
[01:16:35:19 - 01:16:50:10]
Speaker 3
Is it a rental? No, it's free. Awesome. Okay. I remember seeing the trailer and thinking that it looked, um, interesting. It's cute. Yeah. Um, well, I have been catching up on X-Men 97 season two. Yeah.
[01:16:50:10 - 01:16:50:20]
Speaker 2
Me too.
[01:16:50:20 - 01:17:03:12]
Speaker 3
Oh, so fun. Uh, I think it always serves me off when they're like deep into a storyline and okay, we're in like two different time travel situations. And then that kind of ends and you're now in a new story. And I'm like, wait,
[01:17:04:13 - 01:17:13:21]
Speaker 2
not only that, it's like, what are the actions of everything we just saw? Nothing. Apparently it takes a minute to get there, but yeah, I felt the same way.
[01:17:13:21 - 01:17:45:12]
Speaker 3
Yeah. No, I, I'm enjoying it a lot. I, I'm really, I feel like I don't remember spending this much time with morph last time around. No, I feel like I'm, I'm really enjoying more of the morph stuff and the, um, uh, I want to say night crawlers. That right. Uh, I think that's right. Yeah. The blue guy. Yeah. Yeah. Like just getting to see these other characters that, you know, we never really explored in the previous animation. Um, it's just fun. Yeah. It's, it's been really fun and no, no complaints.
[01:17:45:12 - 01:17:54:10]
Speaker 2
I guess there were a couple of scenes too that I was like, holy cow, this looks like it's right out of the heavy metal movie when, uh, when, uh,
[01:17:56:02 - 01:17:56:19]
Speaker 2
who's the bad guy?
[01:17:58:10 - 01:18:00:16]
Speaker 3
Or, uh, uh, apocalypse.
[01:18:00:16 - 01:18:22:22]
Speaker 2
Yeah, it is apocalypse. I was like, it's not a nihilist. It's apocalypse. When he's holding Magneto by the head and they're showing him and professor X screaming and then he blasts him and you see like his skeleton inside his body and everything. I took a couple of screenshots of that. I was like, wow, this animation is really solid.
[01:18:22:22 - 01:18:31:05]
Speaker 3
It's so good. Yeah. There's some really cool visuals happening in it where, you know, in the nineties, like a lot of the animation was really pretty lazy.
[01:18:31:05 - 01:18:31:14]
Speaker 2
Yeah.
[01:18:31:14 - 01:18:37:21]
Speaker 3
Um, and watching that get flushed out, it just makes it all feel really fun and compelling to watch.
[01:18:37:21 - 01:19:01:09]
Speaker 2
Also. So I didn't, you know, I was a little too old for the cartoon when it came out. Um, but I have gone back and watched like their adaptation of the dark Phoenix storyline and stuff like that. Uh, and they're into a, an era of the X-Men in this X-Men 97 that I did not read. So these stories are all very new to me. And I'm like, Oh, this is interesting.
[01:19:01:09 - 01:19:19:11]
Speaker 3
I've been listening to a podcast where they're really big, uh, giant comic book nerds. So they're kind of contextualizing a lot of what's going on. I found that very helpful. Cause I'm like, who are they? And they're like, Oh yeah, this random person in the background, that's this wild character from this issue of blah, blah, blah. And I'm like, yeah, that's still me more.
[01:19:19:11 - 01:19:20:01]
Speaker 2
That's fun.
[01:19:20:01 - 01:19:37:08]
Speaker 3
So that's been really fun to be like, wow, they, the, this was made by giant fucking nerds. And I appreciate that so much when something is made by people who really care about it. And so they're not just, you know, doing stuff willy nilly, like they've got characters who were actually in there for reasons.
[01:19:37:08 - 01:19:41:05]
Speaker 2
And yeah, yeah, it's definitely kept my interest. I've been enjoying it.
[01:19:41:05 - 01:19:54:21]
Speaker 3
Yeah. Yeah. Segue, uh, speaking of, cause, uh, there's, a little bit of gambit stuff going on within a series. Um, did you guys see the trailer for doomsday?
[01:19:54:21 - 01:19:56:10]
Speaker 2
We talked about it last.
[01:19:56:10 - 01:19:58:14]
Speaker 3
The newest trailer for doomsday.
[01:19:58:14 - 01:19:59:11]
Speaker 2
I think so.
[01:19:59:11 - 01:20:00:00]
Speaker 3
Really?
[01:20:00:00 - 01:20:03:21]
Speaker 2
When we see a gambit against, uh, Shang-Chi.
[01:20:03:21 - 01:20:07:05]
Speaker 3
Yeah. Sorry. All right. Well, I got really excited.
[01:20:07:05 - 01:20:10:17]
Speaker 1
I can't tell if you're excited or disappointed.
[01:20:10:17 - 01:20:27:03]
Speaker 3
I'm really excited. Um, and Decca is putting on an action figure and I'm like, I'm not doing action figures right now, but I really want to buy this action figure fucking Channing Tatum as the worst. Damn it. It's so good. I just, he's so awful at it and I know his dream is coming true. So I'm happy for him.
[01:20:27:03 - 01:20:31:21]
Speaker 2
If it doesn't have a sound chip in him or he can press his button and hear his horrible accent. I don't want it.
[01:20:33:01 - 01:20:36:05]
Speaker 3
You gotta have it. You gotta have the world's worst accent.
[01:20:36:05 - 01:20:40:07]
Speaker 2
Oh, X-Men 97 is on a Disney plus.
[01:20:40:07 - 01:20:51:09]
Speaker 1
Okay. Both of you feared off briefly before you talked about her after you talked about your main thing. So I'm going to do the same thing. All right. I was curious. Are any of you reading any of the absolutes and DC?
[01:20:51:09 - 01:20:55:22]
Speaker 2
No, I'm not up to date, but I started absolute Batman.
[01:20:57:07 - 01:21:00:12]
Speaker 1
I've read Batman, Wonder Woman, Superman, Superman
[01:21:01:14 - 01:21:08:18]
Speaker 1
is the one I like least. Superman is really weird. I enjoyed it, but boy, is it a change? Very, very different.
[01:21:08:18 - 01:21:11:06]
Speaker 3
And I've heard Martian manhunter is also really good.
[01:21:11:06 - 01:21:13:07]
Speaker 2
That one's good. Green Lantern. Yeah.
[01:21:14:11 - 01:21:16:01]
Speaker 2
Are they giving everybody absolute?
[01:21:16:01 - 01:21:27:18]
Speaker 1
I'm not sure. I know there's a, there's the big three and then there's flash green lantern and Martian manhunter are the ones I can think of. I think of the group. Batman's the best. Wonder Woman's really good.
[01:21:27:18 - 01:21:28:10]
Speaker 2
Okay.
[01:21:28:10 - 01:21:45:11]
Speaker 1
Superman. I enjoyed the green lantern. Flash is decent. Green Lantern ones got some issues. They really need to figure out what they're going to do with this story. A giant green lantern falls on a city and the people that
[01:21:46:16 - 01:21:51:23]
Speaker 1
certain people get infected or something with being a green lantern or what?
[01:21:51:23 - 01:21:52:21]
Speaker 2
Oh, that is wild.
[01:21:52:21 - 01:21:55:05]
Speaker 1
So the manhunter one is.
[01:21:55:05 - 01:22:01:02]
Speaker 2
Are these all meshing together eventually? Like are they Superman meeting Batman or anything like that?
[01:22:01:02 - 01:22:05:19]
Speaker 1
It hasn't happened yet. OK. And Wonder Woman is powerful.
[01:22:05:19 - 01:22:06:08]
Speaker 4
OK.
[01:22:06:08 - 01:22:13:09]
Speaker 1
Wow. Like they integrate magic into her. So they're fun. I really did like the Batman ones. Yeah.
[01:22:13:09 - 01:22:15:14]
Speaker 2
Yeah. I liked that.
[01:22:16:20 - 01:22:22:06]
Speaker 2
Speaking of, since we're still veering off, the trailer for Lanterns looks fucking amazing.
[01:22:22:06 - 01:22:26:06]
Speaker 1
Yeah, yeah, it does. It really does. Like, OK, this looks like a good green lantern.
[01:22:26:06 - 01:22:26:13]
Speaker 4
Yeah.
[01:22:28:09 - 01:22:58:09]
Speaker 1
But what I was going to talk about, and this is why we can veer off, because we're going to talk about this long. We've talked about it before. Lee Cronin's The Mummy. Yes. Finally watched that. It's part of the 100 Days of Horror. Yeah. And posted on it. And one of the main movies I've gotten a little bit of pushback on, which and the other side, too, where people are like, I freaking love this movie. And I was like, oh, I don't know. This one is like I haven't nobody's gone like, well, this is why I thought it sucked to that level. But I'm.
[01:22:59:21 - 01:23:04:16]
Speaker 1
I don't get the dislike for this film. It's so strong. It's got to be based on the title, right?
[01:23:04:16 - 01:23:09:12]
Speaker 3
Yeah, I was going to say, it's probably because no one's seen it and they're going off the title of the trailer,
[01:23:09:12 - 01:23:23:00]
Speaker 1
which are both pretty poor. Yeah. I mean, putting the guy's name before it was a bold step. I'm calling it The Mummy when there's been in the last 20 some odd years, there's been a few really large Mummy movies. Probably not the best.
[01:23:23:00 - 01:23:27:20]
Speaker 2
I guarantee, I guarantee Lee Cronin did not say put my name before this movie.
[01:23:27:20 - 01:23:29:10]
Speaker 3
That's what I've heard. Yeah.
[01:23:29:10 - 01:23:41:10]
Speaker 2
And I also guarantee the reason they did it is we've got Brendan Fraser coming back for a Mummy movie. And they were like, God damn it. I guess we got to fucking somehow make a difference with this. Yeah.
[01:23:42:11 - 01:23:47:20]
Speaker 1
And I thought the use of the mummy was fine. It's not a typical mummy movie, but it's it's when you think about the Brendan
[01:23:47:20 - 01:24:01:12]
Speaker 2
Fraser ones, he's that mummy is a dust storm. Yeah. So and really powerful. Yeah. He's not rambling around. He's not a mummy either. We have a very loose definition of what a mummy is. Exactly.
[01:24:01:12 - 01:24:11:03]
Speaker 1
You know, very like a lot of people say, very evil dead. Yeah. How did you how did you like it? I thought it was a lot of fun. I love it. Really well done. Some great creepy stuff. Yeah.
[01:24:13:05 - 01:24:20:11]
Speaker 1
Well realized characters, solid acting. I thought I would say if it would been in the Evil Dead franchise.
[01:24:20:11 - 01:24:20:21]
Speaker 2
Yeah.
[01:24:20:21 - 01:24:23:09]
Speaker 1
I think I'd put it above the last Evil Dead.
[01:24:23:09 - 01:24:27:20]
Speaker 2
Even that burn. I kind of think that, too. I think it was better than the last Evil Dead movie. Yeah.
[01:24:27:20 - 01:24:33:19]
Speaker 3
I think I'll continue to refrain. Just like I feel like the Evil Dead dangerment stuff is going to be too.
[01:24:33:19 - 01:24:37:13]
Speaker 2
You know, you're not going to watch it because of that. It's it's pretty fucking dark.
[01:24:37:13 - 01:24:46:12]
Speaker 3
Yeah. Yeah. I'm a little worried because it's one thing to. We're obviously talking about the omen. It's one thing where it's something really far removed and like, I don't know.
[01:24:46:12 - 01:24:48:11]
Speaker 2
So that stuff is happening to adults.
[01:24:48:11 - 01:25:04:20]
Speaker 3
Yeah, exactly. That's having adults. But watching like the kids get like fucked around with just I don't know. As soon as I was like, there's a sibling and like you guys are going to take in the weird child that went missing and it's obviously going to fuck around with your other kid. And I don't think I want to watch that right now.
[01:25:04:20 - 01:25:11:05]
Speaker 2
Not only that, but like, like there is a scene that's like the ultimate hang now
[01:25:12:10 - 01:25:18:08]
Speaker 2
that happens to this little girl that I was just like, you know, when it came on, I was like, oh, and then I was like, oh, no.
[01:25:18:08 - 01:25:19:06]
Speaker 4
Stop.
[01:25:20:18 - 01:25:28:06]
Speaker 2
And it's happening to a you know, I mean, at this point, she's whatever 14 or something. But little older, but still. But it's hard to watch that stuff. Yeah, I get it.
[01:25:28:06 - 01:25:40:22]
Speaker 3
Yeah. So I think I'm going to refrain for now, but I'm glad that I mean, I'm really hopeful hearing both of you having such a positive reaction that it's not just an absolute trash fire because the way it was presented. It felt like it was just,
[01:25:40:22 - 01:25:44:23]
Speaker 1
yeah, I thought it was like, you know, got off. Tom Cruise's universal.
[01:25:44:23 - 01:26:00:01]
Speaker 2
Right. It's like, right. It's nothing like that. It's actually really good. I remember thinking after I saw it, I was like, this movie is going to be well regarded in a couple of years when people get the chance to watch it and go, I wonder why everybody hated this. Definitely.
[01:26:00:01 - 01:26:00:15]
Speaker 4
Sure.
[01:26:00:15 - 01:26:02:03]
Speaker 2
Yeah. Yeah.
[01:26:03:09 - 01:26:10:23]
Speaker 2
OK, well, how about we take a little break and guess what? Man, I haven't come up with an awesome. Is this an omenathon?
[01:26:10:23 - 01:26:13:08]
Speaker 3
Wow. Wow.
[01:26:14:23 - 01:26:26:15]
Speaker 2
That sounds like a warning about a future. Is that omen? Is this an omen fest? Is this a Damien fest? Anyhow, we're talking about the omen movies and we are starting with the omen.
[01:26:26:15 - 01:26:27:18]
Speaker 3
We'll workshop this.
[01:26:27:18 - 01:26:28:07]
Speaker 2
Yeah.
[01:26:39:21 - 01:26:51:05]
Speaker 27
It's the evil can evil show featuring evil can evil scramble that at a living of action. Here's our star. What a joke. Evil's writing the amazing star cycle. That gyro power sends him over 100 feet of top speed.
[01:26:52:13 - 01:27:07:05]
Speaker 27
And he's not through yet into the dragster evil super sprint car with built in drag shoot to slow him down. Here he is on the Super Gold Chopper bike. He's sensational. He's evil evil. He's a knockout. He's ideal.
[01:27:17:02 - 01:27:25:06]
Speaker 2
And we are back omen fest 26. I love it. Omen's that's 2020. I don't know. That sounds like the 26.
[01:27:25:06 - 01:27:27:19]
Speaker 1
It does sound like this. How many movies?
[01:27:29:20 - 01:27:36:15]
Speaker 2
We're starting our our look at all the omen films. And Vanessa, you were lucky enough to get the best of them.
[01:27:36:15 - 01:27:39:14]
Speaker 3
I know this one. I didn't get a short straw. I'm pretty stoked about it.
[01:27:40:16 - 01:27:43:05]
Speaker 3
I am starting with the omen from 1976.
[01:27:44:11 - 01:27:57:01]
Speaker 6
For generations, the thorns have been a family of tremendous wealth, position and power. The perfect marriage of Ambassador Robert Thorn and his wife, Catherine, was fulfilled by the birth of their son, Damien.
[01:27:58:05 - 01:28:01:06]
Speaker 6
And then when the child was five years old,
[01:28:02:10 - 01:28:03:22]
Speaker 6
something terrible happened.
[01:28:13:09 - 01:28:15:03]
Speaker 6
And then it happened again.
[01:28:21:01 - 01:28:21:22]
Speaker 6
Was it an accident?
[01:28:22:23 - 01:28:27:19]
Speaker 6
Was it murder? Was it a coincidence? Or was it an omen?
[01:28:27:19 - 01:28:29:09]
Speaker 1
Look at me, Damien.
[01:28:30:20 - 01:28:32:05]
Speaker 4
It's all for you.
[01:28:36:19 - 01:28:46:14]
Speaker 6
20th Century Fox presents a film of psychological suspense about an occurrence of earth-checking importance. Gregory Peck, Lee Remick, the omen.
[01:28:47:17 - 01:28:54:03]
Speaker 28
I was at the hospital, Mr. Thorn, the night your son was born. I saw its mother. I saw its mother.
[01:28:54:03 - 01:28:58:03]
Speaker 6
I have fears. I've seen fears.
[01:28:59:03 - 01:29:06:11]
Speaker 28
I've got fears. It's mother, Mr. Thorn. It's all my wife. It's mother. What is it you're trying to say? His mother was a...
[01:29:08:22 - 01:29:11:08]
Speaker 28
This is not a human child.
[01:29:13:08 - 01:29:17:01]
Speaker 6
Make no mistake. There are those who will die for him.
[01:29:22:18 - 01:29:24:20]
Speaker 6
There are those who will kill for him. Who
[01:29:26:08 - 01:29:26:17]
Speaker 6
is he?
[01:29:28:00 - 01:29:28:16]
Speaker 6
What does he want?
[01:29:30:00 - 01:29:31:04]
Speaker 6
Where did he come from?
[01:29:32:09 - 01:29:33:12]
Speaker 6
And can he be stopped?
[01:29:41:23 - 01:29:45:04]
Speaker 6
Gregory Peck, Lee Remick, the omen.
[01:29:51:04 - 01:29:52:13]
Speaker 6
If this is the truth,
[01:29:53:17 - 01:29:54:18]
Speaker 6
where does it end?
[01:29:58:04 - 01:30:12:06]
Speaker 3
This is directed by Richard Donner. What a choice. 85 credits, including Superman, Lady Hawk, Lethal Weapon, Scrooge, Scoonies and lots of TV in his early career, including six episodes of Twilight Zone. Oh, I know.
[01:30:12:06 - 01:30:12:20]
Speaker 4
I didn't know that.
[01:30:13:21 - 01:30:45:23]
Speaker 3
Co-written with David Seltzer, 44 credits, including Bird on a Wire. And he contributed to Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory. Yeah, which is crazy. Starring Gregory Peck, who plays our hero, Robert. 58 credits, including To Kill a Mockingbird, Spellbound, Roman Holiday, Gunfighter, Cape Fear. Lee Remick is playing the wife, mother. 73 credits, including Anatomy of a Murderer, Running Man and the Tempest. There are a lot of people who were in various Hitchcock movies. Yeah.
[01:30:47:15 - 01:31:02:02]
Speaker 3
We also have... There's a lot of people. Harvey Stevens, who plays Damien, who did not go on to really do anything. He only has three credits. David Warner Jennings, 253 credits, including Star Trek 6.
[01:31:03:04 - 01:31:03:14]
Speaker 1
There you go.
[01:31:03:14 - 01:31:08:20]
Speaker 3
Tron in the Mouth of Manus, Dr. Who Voice and also Winnie the Pooh narrator.
[01:31:08:20 - 01:31:11:01]
Speaker 1
So recognizable when he popped up.
[01:31:11:01 - 01:31:13:23]
Speaker 3
Yeah, once he pops up, you're like, yeah, you.
[01:31:15:02 - 01:31:32:00]
Speaker 3
Billy Whitelaw plays Mrs. Baloch, who's the nanny. She's in Hot Fuzz, Dark Crystal, Frenzy, 132 credits and Patrick Throughton, Father Brennan, 234 credits, including Jason the Argonauts, Phantom of the Opera and also Dr. Who as I believe one of the doctors.
[01:31:32:00 - 01:31:32:10]
Speaker 2
Yeah.
[01:31:32:10 - 01:31:37:18]
Speaker 3
I did not watch old Dr. Who, so I'm like, all right. City of British actor.
[01:31:37:18 - 01:31:38:18]
Speaker 1
Yeah, it's probably Dr.
[01:31:38:18 - 01:31:40:07]
Speaker 3
Who. It's probably Dr. Who at some point,
[01:31:41:08 - 01:32:21:01]
Speaker 3
or at least in it for sure. The story follows. This is a real plot, so bear with me, guys. An American diplomat, Robert Thorne, is mourning the loss of his newborn baby boy in Rome. Robert is unsure of what to do and how to break the news to his wife, who apparently does not know that her child is dead. They took them a long time to get this child, and it was very much wanted. So Father Spoleto, the chaplain, convinces Robert to switch the boy with an orphan baby whose mother also died in childbirth that very night. He reluctantly agrees and takes the child to his wife and does not tell her.
[01:32:22:06 - 01:32:24:22]
Speaker 2
Yeah, that's I mean, that's a pretty big lie.
[01:32:24:22 - 01:32:27:13]
Speaker 1
Yeah, it's like what's that kid going to grow up to look like?
[01:32:27:13 - 01:32:36:21]
Speaker 3
I feel like, yeah, well, they bring that up too, because he's like, he even looks kind of like, yeah, baby. I know. I was like, this is.
[01:32:36:21 - 01:32:43:06]
Speaker 2
So Lee Renek in that shot in the bed, you know, she just had her baby. I'm like, she's very well put together for just having a baby.
[01:32:43:06 - 01:32:45:02]
Speaker 1
And this is a nice large
[01:32:46:18 - 01:32:47:16]
Speaker 1
newborn. Here you go.
[01:32:49:10 - 01:32:50:13]
Speaker 3
Healthy baby.
[01:32:50:13 - 01:32:53:05]
Speaker 1
Very healthy. Mom and baby very well taken care of.
[01:32:53:05 - 01:32:58:03]
Speaker 3
They raised the boy under the name Damien five years later.
[01:32:59:06 - 01:33:22:03]
Speaker 3
Robert, is that his name? Yes, has become ambassador to the UK in London, and they are living the happiest life of any montage you can possibly get. They are just the perfect little family unit up until Damien's birthday party, which is crazy. They splash out the hell out of this little kid's birthday party.
[01:33:22:03 - 01:33:24:07]
Speaker 1
Bouncy houses were a little scarier in the seven.
[01:33:24:07 - 01:34:00:17]
Speaker 3
No, I know. I like the little roller coaster. They stick him on to. I was like, oh, this is freaky, man. But okay, that's fine. And they've got like press there. They've got like the whole shebang. A large black Rottweiler appears and seems to kind of hypnotize Damien's nanny. She then goes off somewhere and we see her later yelling down to him at the party saying, look at me, look at me, look at me. And then goes, it's all for you and throws herself off of the roof and is hung to death. Hang hung. Hang to death. I know.
[01:34:00:17 - 01:34:03:06]
Speaker 2
Yeah. What a great scene. Oh my God.
[01:34:03:06 - 01:34:06:18]
Speaker 3
Crazy. I mean, like that's and that's the most, I think, well known
[01:34:07:21 - 01:34:08:09]
Speaker 3
scene.
[01:34:08:09 - 01:34:11:00]
Speaker 1
If you know anything from this movie, it's that scene.
[01:34:11:00 - 01:34:25:02]
Speaker 2
There's that shot of Lee Remick holding Damien and her eyes are so white and everything. She's killing it in this scene. Unfortunately, I think that she is maybe not the right character or not the right actor to be playing this character in the rest of the movie.
[01:34:25:02 - 01:34:28:08]
Speaker 1
I did have the note the blonde woman is making out with her dad
[01:34:29:22 - 01:34:41:01]
Speaker 1
because he looks so much older than her. Oh, George. Oh, I know Gregory Peck. I think he's 26 years older in real life. It's like, yeah, but he looks old as part of the thing.
[01:34:42:04 - 01:34:52:13]
Speaker 2
I think I think he is so perfectly cast in this because he's just a beloved actor. You throw him in a horror movie and all of a sudden everybody's going to take this movie seriously.
[01:34:52:13 - 01:35:16:02]
Speaker 3
Yeah. Oh yeah. He he owns a great job. And exactly. Never at any point did I think he's too old to be the dad of that kid. The whole way through, I'm like, yeah, he loves him. He wants it. But then he is questioning. But no, he's not. There's just a lot of really good subtle dad acting in there that works so well. She did feel pretty big a lot of times.
[01:35:16:02 - 01:35:19:17]
Speaker 1
A little underwritten. Yeah, a little underwritten in over actually.
[01:35:19:17 - 01:35:20:22]
Speaker 2
Also, yeah.
[01:35:20:22 - 01:35:25:00]
Speaker 1
But that scene of her though, that is one of those
[01:35:25:00 - 01:35:31:20]
Speaker 2
moments of she's great. And you totally believe that I mean, you totally believe that Gregory Peck would be ambassador to.
[01:35:31:20 - 01:35:33:09]
Speaker 3
Oh, I don't know. God knows.
[01:35:33:09 - 01:35:40:00]
Speaker 2
Yeah, you're like, you're like, I will believe anything. This guy is in some power. He walks into a room.
[01:35:40:00 - 01:35:52:11]
Speaker 3
What a clever piece of writing to to be like, oh, it's not the president. It's not that, you know, whatever. It's like an ambassador to London who's like working his way up the political ladder. You're like, that is such good writing.
[01:35:52:11 - 01:35:53:15]
Speaker 1
Yeah, definitely.
[01:35:53:15 - 01:36:35:18]
Speaker 3
So there's a photographer at the birthday party who takes pictures and notices a strange marking around the nanny's neck in his photos. We'll come back to him later. Meanwhile, a priest, Father Brennan, warns Robert that his son may not be as he appears and starts quoting to him a whole bunch of stuff about the revelations and how he needs to go to mass and take communion to fight against his son if he has any hope. Robert shockingly writes him off because this guy comes across as crazy, crazy, crazy. There's no like hints of like subtle like, hey, look, I got to talk to you about your son been weird. No, he's like, you're a son.
[01:36:37:08 - 01:36:39:06]
Speaker 3
You must protect myself.
[01:36:39:06 - 01:36:41:10]
Speaker 1
Little of a one to 10 there kind of thing.
[01:36:41:10 - 01:36:50:16]
Speaker 3
A hundred percent, which is actually helpful in the writing process because otherwise you're like, why aren't you listening to that guy? Clearly, instead, you're like, I wouldn't listen to that guy either.
[01:36:50:16 - 01:36:51:20]
Speaker 1
In that scene,
[01:36:53:05 - 01:37:00:08]
Speaker 1
Peck is totally perfectly reacting. He doesn't overreact to the guy's overreaction.
[01:37:00:08 - 01:37:03:07]
Speaker 3
He's kind of listening. He's kind of like taking it in and then I
[01:37:03:07 - 01:37:06:09]
Speaker 1
got to I can't just throw this guy out.
[01:37:07:11 - 01:37:22:19]
Speaker 2
There's too much pressure for me to throw this guy out. But there is a nice little just the the subtlest. Boy, this is back when we took time with our movies. There's a subtlest thing with Gregory Peck talking to his wife then. He's like, God, he's never been sick a day in his life. That's a little odd, isn't it?
[01:37:22:19 - 01:37:25:13]
Speaker 3
Totally. Like you can see the seeds have been planted.
[01:37:26:13 - 01:37:26:13]
Speaker 3
Because
[01:37:27:15 - 01:37:54:04]
Speaker 3
she's like, Oh, I think I need to see a therapist. And he's like, why don't we take him to see a doctor? Yeah, you know, and it's weird. He has never been to a doctor. Isn't that strange? They do start to notice more and more weird things about Damon, Damien and around him. From that moment on, there's just lots of strange occurrences. The new nanny appears named Mrs. Baloch, who tells Damien that she's there to protect him. And she basically won't leave his side
[01:37:55:08 - 01:38:09:02]
Speaker 3
and then seems to be grooming him towards the dark. The big black dog finds his way back to Damien becomes his pet. Despite Robert insisting they get rid of it. The nanny's like, Yeah, I totally got rid of it and never goes away. It's like,
[01:38:10:07 - 01:38:14:08]
Speaker 3
you are not present enough in this household, sir. You need to step up a little bit more.
[01:38:15:09 - 01:38:30:04]
Speaker 3
Damien is unable to go near church without trembling in fear and freaking out. And at the zoo, the animals either run away from him or attack them towards him. That's a great couple of scenes. Yeah, the monkeys going over the booboons going crazy at the cars. Pretty great.
[01:38:30:04 - 01:38:43:18]
Speaker 2
You know, the scene where Mrs. Baloch is not going to get him dressed to go to the church. And she's got her reasons and everything. I do think Lee Remick does a really good job as a mom going, Hey, you're not his mother. I'm his mother. So getting dressed and he's coming with us.
[01:38:43:18 - 01:38:57:10]
Speaker 3
I love that. I really, really liked that where she was like, Hi, yeah, I pay you. You're going to do the thing I said. I'm sorry that you have whatever is going on here, but my is my son is going to this wedding.
[01:38:57:10 - 01:39:01:06]
Speaker 2
Yeah, a lot of this feels very real. Yes, the reaction.
[01:39:01:06 - 01:39:10:00]
Speaker 1
Yeah, I think that leans a little towards the underwritten aspect of her as opposed to her. Maybe not handling it because when she's given something like that, Good point.
[01:39:10:00 - 01:39:12:17]
Speaker 3
She's great. She does great. Yeah, 100%. I agree.
[01:39:12:17 - 01:39:15:22]
Speaker 1
Although Mrs. Bladock just all I could see was the hunger.
[01:39:15:22 - 01:39:24:20]
Speaker 3
Oh, sure. Yeah. Yeah, I just I knew there was like a familiar sense about her, but I didn't. I was mostly like, man, this lady. Fuck.
[01:39:24:20 - 01:39:31:10]
Speaker 2
Well, what's so funny is when she shows up and I was like, they just gave her Mary Poppins outfit.
[01:39:31:10 - 01:39:32:09]
Speaker 3
They were like,
[01:39:32:09 - 01:39:38:19]
Speaker 2
this is very scary when it's not a person who's smiling. Yeah, scary. Very scary. Okay.
[01:39:39:22 - 01:39:49:10]
Speaker 3
Father Brennan meets with Robert again and tells him that Damien is the son of Satan and that Catherine is pregnant and that Damien will kill his unborn sibling and parents.
[01:39:51:19 - 01:40:08:00]
Speaker 3
Robert leaves and says, never talk to me again. You crazy, crazy dude. And then a giant windstorm appears and Father Brennan tries to take shelter in a church, unable to get in lightning struck strikes a rod on top of the church, which falls and impales the priest and kills him.
[01:40:08:00 - 01:40:18:19]
Speaker 1
This is definitely one of those scenes. I think modern audiences go, why don't you step to the left there? Yeah, he does go. We do a little bit. We're just just a couple little cuts there that would have been perfect.
[01:40:18:19 - 01:40:28:00]
Speaker 3
But yeah, just need a little speed up. Instead, he's like, I guess this is how I go. And there's a lot of that in this movie, which I don't know. I was pretty forgiving of it.
[01:40:28:00 - 01:40:33:05]
Speaker 1
Well, that was the only one that that was like, okay, I've had most of the rest were handled.
[01:40:33:05 - 01:40:36:19]
Speaker 3
The windstorm itself was so wildly fun to watch.
[01:40:36:19 - 01:40:37:03]
Speaker 4
Yeah.
[01:40:37:03 - 01:40:47:13]
Speaker 3
That just the whole like as soon as Robert leaves and the wind starts picking up and trees start cracking, lightning starts going, you're like, oh, you're fucked. You're fucked, sir.
[01:40:47:13 - 01:40:56:02]
Speaker 1
Like then when it actually hits him. Yeah, it's so intense. Yeah. The way he's just laying there. It's like that remind me.
[01:40:56:02 - 01:40:56:10]
Speaker 2
He
[01:40:57:19 - 01:41:07:21]
Speaker 2
is aware of this because he was there when Damien was born, right? Or something like that. So he's like a he's a bad priest that is. We dreading his. Yeah.
[01:41:07:21 - 01:41:09:03]
Speaker 3
Yeah. Yeah, exactly.
[01:41:09:03 - 01:41:14:20]
Speaker 2
Like he and so this is the devil going, no, your mind or is it God going, no, you are responsible for this.
[01:41:14:20 - 01:41:15:12]
Speaker 3
I don't know.
[01:41:15:12 - 01:41:16:00]
Speaker 2
Taking you out.
[01:41:16:00 - 01:41:16:20]
Speaker 3
Yeah,
[01:41:18:01 - 01:41:34:06]
Speaker 3
I think I think that there's a vague idea that he's going to hell and he knows he's going to hell and he's trying to atone for the stuff. And I don't I don't know what the forces are. They keep that pretty vague because I was I just assumed it was the devil being like, I'm going to.
[01:41:34:06 - 01:41:38:02]
Speaker 2
Yeah, I can't have you fucking on my plan. Yeah, you're messing too much.
[01:41:38:02 - 01:41:52:03]
Speaker 3
Of course, as predicted, Catherine is precariously standing on a stool. Damien rides past on a trike, knocking her down over a railing where she falls to the ground, is injured and loses her baby.
[01:41:53:12 - 01:42:18:17]
Speaker 3
He the photographer at the birthday party and also just kind of around all the time shows Robert the photos that he's developed, which show lines around the nanny and Father Brennan predicting their deaths and offers to help him. And Robert's like, no, like this is I've got to deal with this. And he's like, no, I have skin in the game. Look, here's a picture of me. He's got a giant slice through his.
[01:42:18:17 - 01:42:24:04]
Speaker 2
I mean, it is a very black slice. I don't know if that means it's supposed to be closer to the time.
[01:42:24:04 - 01:42:37:00]
Speaker 3
It's closer because that's how he he said you can see with the priest. It's darker than each one as he goes. And like with him, it's like black. I was like, oh, my God, when are you going to die? And he's like getting on planes.
[01:42:37:00 - 01:42:40:13]
Speaker 1
I was like, a lot longer than I thought he was going to be because of that.
[01:42:40:13 - 01:42:44:05]
Speaker 3
It's like, I was like, all right, sir, is this what? No, is this.
[01:42:45:18 - 01:43:16:12]
Speaker 2
I love this trope and I did a little research on it, the photo predicting the way a person will die because I was like, is this the first movie to do that? Because we've seen it and everything is definitely the first movie to popularize it. There was a Twilight Zone episode from the original series called A Most Unusual Camera that was able to take pictures five minutes in the future. And the last photo it shows is the guy Big Dad who's stolen the camera. But this is the movie that popularizes that whole thing of, you know, there's something in the photo that predicts your death.
[01:43:16:12 - 01:43:30:19]
Speaker 3
Yeah. And I didn't find this in the trivia, but I was curious about the 666 thing if it existed before this film because it feels like this film hearkens on it in a way that it feels like it's new information that's not stupidly popular and like oversold.
[01:43:30:19 - 01:43:32:15]
Speaker 1
666 is really old.
[01:43:32:15 - 01:43:39:01]
Speaker 2
It is in the book of Revelation. But the design of it in that Curly Q thing is definitely
[01:43:40:03 - 01:43:42:04]
Speaker 2
unique to this film, to this series.
[01:43:42:04 - 01:43:48:23]
Speaker 3
So him and the photographer head off to Rome because they're going to start to decipher this thing that the priest kept quoting at him.
[01:43:50:05 - 01:43:55:23]
Speaker 3
They go to the hospital where Damien was born and it had burned to the ground, starting with the records room.
[01:43:55:23 - 01:43:57:22]
Speaker 2
Yeah. So how unusual.
[01:43:57:22 - 01:44:00:01]
Speaker 3
How weird. Weird that that would have happened.
[01:44:00:01 - 01:44:01:22]
Speaker 2
Exactly the area we needed to get to.
[01:44:01:22 - 01:44:07:06]
Speaker 3
And the world's scariest elevators, which apparently were very popular in Europe at the time.
[01:44:07:06 - 01:44:07:11]
Speaker 1
What the fuck?
[01:44:07:11 - 01:44:17:17]
Speaker 3
But that is like, I guess we're done talking and she just hops on this elevator that's constantly rotating upward. What if you trip? Apparently a lot of injuries did in fact happen with these things.
[01:44:17:17 - 01:44:20:08]
Speaker 1
I would think so. Fuck, it's terrifying. But Christoph and I don't exist anymore.
[01:44:20:08 - 01:44:40:16]
Speaker 3
I'll take the stairs. Yeah, I was like, bye, I guess. Conversation done. What if you're like, oh shit, I need, well, blood type was he? All right. I'll get you on the next round. You're right. Um, yeah, what happens when you get there to the top? Did it just, you go smoosh or did it go back around?
[01:44:40:16 - 01:44:43:21]
Speaker 2
Then you're falling on the ceiling until it comes back around.
[01:44:43:21 - 01:44:44:10]
Speaker 3
Insane.
[01:44:45:12 - 01:45:01:06]
Speaker 3
So they end up finding the priest who placed the baby with him. In a weird like monastery, he's burned mute and blind in one eye, but directs them to a cemetery where Damien's mother is buried.
[01:45:01:06 - 01:45:02:23]
Speaker 1
Directs them to a sound stage.
[01:45:04:04 - 01:45:05:05]
Speaker 1
It's cool looking.
[01:45:05:05 - 01:45:10:22]
Speaker 2
I fuck it. My favorite set piece. That beautiful painting of the background and everything.
[01:45:10:22 - 01:45:13:02]
Speaker 3
It's got such a like.
[01:45:13:02 - 01:45:16:22]
Speaker 1
And it's such a transition from the way most of the film looks.
[01:45:16:22 - 01:45:21:23]
Speaker 3
Yeah, it feels very like hounds of love to me. It's got such Kate Bush music video vibes
[01:45:21:23 - 01:45:22:10]
Speaker 2
going on.
[01:45:22:10 - 01:45:23:20]
Speaker 3
I just loved it.
[01:45:25:05 - 01:45:45:12]
Speaker 3
In the grave of the mother is a jackal. I don't know what that's supposed to mean. Is she a jackal or is it like they replaced her body with a jackal? I'm not sure. And then the corpse of Robert's real child, his grave is there for some reason. When they lift that up, they see the boy was clearly murdered.
[01:45:45:12 - 01:45:46:19]
Speaker 2
Yeah, big hole in the skull.
[01:45:46:19 - 01:45:57:04]
Speaker 3
Yeah, giant crack in the skull. And he's like, what the fuck? They murdered my kid. He didn't die naturally and they set this whole thing up. So I guess I was supposed to raise this child.
[01:45:57:04 - 01:46:07:08]
Speaker 2
The jackal is the mother. That is the mother. Because we hear the priest when he's telling Gregory Peck before the storm. He goes, I saw the mother. He was born of a jackal.
[01:46:07:08 - 01:46:19:03]
Speaker 3
Oh, I missed that line because I thought they just were kept not describing what was up with the mom. And I was like, what is what is the deal? Okay. Yeah. Because I was like, was she like weird?
[01:46:19:03 - 01:46:36:22]
Speaker 2
Like, here's the real question. We have birthed a demon baby out of a hound and we're going to bury the hound's body in the mother's casket. I mean, this seems like anyone wants to check that out. We'll then go, this seems unusual.
[01:46:36:22 - 01:46:51:16]
Speaker 3
They could have done it like, you know, how we all treat the Catholic street, and be like, oh, the jackals and give them good, her good treats for the rest of her life. She did really hard work and gave us like our anti Christ.
[01:46:51:16 - 01:47:03:19]
Speaker 2
Well, and also wouldn't you just, I mean, let's cremate the jackal so nobody can trace us back to it. And we leave the casket empty. Right. Put some rocks in it.
[01:47:03:19 - 01:47:05:07]
Speaker 1
If you want to wait.
[01:47:05:07 - 01:47:08:23]
Speaker 2
It is a pretty striking scene when they open it and you see the skeleton of a dog.
[01:47:09:23 - 01:47:17:18]
Speaker 3
And a lot of Rottweilers who like hang out in the cemetery, I guess they're really into Rottweilers in this movie. They were like, let's let's hire all those the
[01:47:17:18 - 01:47:20:10]
Speaker 1
Dobermans in the 80s.
[01:47:20:10 - 01:47:24:10]
Speaker 2
Yeah, this was definitely the movie that gave Rottweilers a bad name.
[01:47:24:10 - 01:47:44:14]
Speaker 3
Yeah, for sure. You can you can see the footprint emerging. They then leave to Jerusalem to continue to follow the breadcrumbs of the cryptic instructions on how to stop Damien. Robert calls his wife in the hospital and instructs her to leave London right now. She starts getting dressed in a really awkward, terrible scene.
[01:47:44:14 - 01:47:48:04]
Speaker 2
Oh yeah, because you get a nice way. So she's got like trying
[01:47:48:04 - 01:47:49:04]
Speaker 3
to get her like,
[01:47:50:09 - 01:47:51:13]
Speaker 3
okay,
[01:47:53:07 - 01:48:03:05]
Speaker 3
I guess I can try. But before she can get out of there, the nanny shows up and throws her out of the hospital room window. And that that's a rough. That's a rough death.
[01:48:03:05 - 01:48:04:06]
Speaker 4
Yeah, painful.
[01:48:05:08 - 01:48:34:14]
Speaker 3
Keith and Robert meet up with an ex an exorcism expert in Jerusalem who gives them special daggers to kill Damien with and tells him it must be on hollow ground. Robert basically is like, you know what, I'm sorry, he's a kid. I raised him. Fuck this. Hell no. And then he's like, well, I'll go get the knives, dude, and gets horribly decapitated. Robert then is like, I guess I accept my task because we see him on a flight holding them the set of daggers. He returns on a flight.
[01:48:34:14 - 01:48:36:07]
Speaker 1
Hey, there's a different time.
[01:48:36:07 - 01:48:41:05]
Speaker 2
It's like a private plane. I'm sure the ambassador doesn't like commercial.
[01:48:41:05 - 01:48:43:09]
Speaker 3
There was maybe 20 people on it.
[01:48:44:11 - 01:48:54:03]
Speaker 3
When he returns, he sneaks into his house at night. He managed to lock the dog away, who's clearly going to defend Damien.
[01:48:54:03 - 01:49:06:13]
Speaker 2
That's my second favorite part of the movie is that brilliant use of layering in the whispered and take crystal into the puffing of the dog. I'm like, good Lord, I made my hair stand up on my own.
[01:49:06:13 - 01:49:39:09]
Speaker 3
That dog. That whole scene is really stressful. And I'm like, I don't know what he's already been attacked by like eight of these things. So it's not like he can't handle himself around these dogs anymore. But at the same time, it feels so stressful. And of course, he has to fight the nanny who tries to kill him. He defeats her. And then throws Damien into his car, goes to the church, but drives past the police all erratic. And so they follow him. It's like, come on. Just drive subtle. You know, like just be.
[01:49:39:09 - 01:49:47:21]
Speaker 2
Well, he's got Damien fighting him, too. So he's got like one hand. And the kid is, you know, doing this. So I'm sure he's like, I
[01:49:47:21 - 01:50:07:14]
Speaker 3
can't even be like, I'm being followed by the police. Now I'm going to do a few circles around the block and then be like, you know, like something pull over and be like, my son needs to go to hospital. He's really like not feeling good. Or I don't know. I don't know. I just feel like he made a choice at this moment. He gets to the church. He's about to stab the boy. And of course, the police jump in there and shoot him.
[01:50:07:14 - 01:50:08:01]
Speaker 4
Yeah.
[01:50:08:01 - 01:50:13:10]
Speaker 3
We end with Damien is placed in the care of Robert's very good friend, the president of the United States of America.
[01:50:13:10 - 01:50:24:18]
Speaker 2
Yeah, which is jumping the gun a bit. Yeah. But I don't know. They didn't think they were, you know, they had no idea this movie was going to be so fucking huge. It was going to require 16 more films.
[01:50:24:18 - 01:50:27:16]
Speaker 3
Like, I guess we're just going right to the top.
[01:50:29:01 - 01:50:30:00]
Speaker 3
Yeah, it is.
[01:50:31:02 - 01:50:36:18]
Speaker 1
I had I hadn't seen this in a really long time and I'd forgotten how dark this movie.
[01:50:36:18 - 01:51:07:10]
Speaker 2
It's pretty dark. I think I'll say this quietly. I think this movie is as good as The Exorcist. It's a completely different feeling movie. The Exorcist is very thoughtful and quiet. But I think Gregory Peck's acting is so strong in this. And this movie has a fucking motor, man. It just goes everything as soon as the lady hangs herself, the nanny, the movie is just off to the races. So I think music is yeah, the music is great. And yeah, I just I love this movie.
[01:51:07:10 - 01:51:22:10]
Speaker 3
Yeah, same. I hadn't seen it since like I first started watching horror movies in the early aughts and was just like, whoa, like this is really like I love like the way the story maps out and the acting is incredible.
[01:51:23:15 - 01:51:44:14]
Speaker 3
I mean, I'm always a nerd for like a 70s horror film. Yeah. So there was a lot of good in there. But yeah, I think the 666 can feel like really cheesy to me now as a movie girl. Like that's the only time I was like, it's really hard to separate my current knowledge of how this stuff works with like how dumb it sounds coming out of people's mouths in this film.
[01:51:44:14 - 01:52:00:07]
Speaker 2
You know, I think that it was it was a new addition, you know, to these satanic type stuff that was coming out. They weren't doing all of this stuff from the book of Revelation. So it it seemed fresh and scary. And now it is so commonplace that you don't look kind of joke about it.
[01:52:00:07 - 01:52:14:04]
Speaker 1
Yeah. Yeah. I mean, there's tons of Exorcist films and there's tons of possessed devil versions that aren't the Exorcist, but are Damien influence. You can just write the impact these two films had. What was made is
[01:52:14:04 - 01:52:49:15]
Speaker 3
huge. Absolutely huge. And I think it's really always fun to go back to these because just like with the Exorcist, it's not really a movie just about exorcism. The most harrowing stuff in the ex in the Exorcist is watching the mom with the kid trying to figure out what's wrong with her and going through all the medical stuff. Like that is almost as bad, if not worse than watching the kid go through the Exorcism. Yeah. You're just like, oh, my God, so many needles on this kid. So many like big loud machines. And with this, it's like he shouldn't lie to his wife. Yeah. There's like some real family shit going on.
[01:52:49:15 - 01:52:55:16]
Speaker 2
Yeah, it's a big fucking lie right at the beginning. It's true. Yeah. And this is almost kind of my favorite
[01:52:56:21 - 01:53:03:17]
Speaker 2
type of movie is where the guy tries to do something good. And it is the reason that everything goes to shit.
[01:53:03:17 - 01:53:16:03]
Speaker 3
Yeah. 100%. Yeah. It's like he should have just told his wife, let them like continue to try and have future hit instead. He's like, I don't know. I guess I'll take this random baby. This priest is fawning off on me.
[01:53:16:03 - 01:53:16:11]
Speaker 2
Yes.
[01:53:16:11 - 01:53:21:18]
Speaker 3
Very peer pressure, like multi-level marketing. I love
[01:53:21:18 - 01:53:32:22]
Speaker 2
it when he goes back to the hospital, too. And they're like, no, there's never been any adoptions here. It's just not even loud. He's like, well, there was one. Yeah. There's definitely a guarantee. He's realizing shit.
[01:53:34:10 - 01:53:37:05]
Speaker 2
That wasn't a priest I talked to. Right?
[01:53:37:05 - 01:53:49:05]
Speaker 3
Oh, my God. And it's interesting because I guess I'm looking forward to the future films, trying to see how they incorporate the way that there's like a dark church. I'm sure they'll get more into that at some point.
[01:53:49:05 - 01:54:04:18]
Speaker 2
Yeah. Also, though, like when we see the skeleton of the baby and the skull has got like a hole in it. I'm like, these guys are fucking bad. I mean, you can't just smother a baby. Yeah, you can hit him with like a giant hammer. Does anyone have a rock?
[01:54:04:18 - 01:54:09:13]
Speaker 3
I just was like, they're swinging it around. Like, come on.
[01:54:10:17 - 01:54:12:23]
Speaker 3
How they did it in more times.
[01:54:14:09 - 01:54:48:05]
Speaker 3
Oh, my. A little bit of trivia for you. Harvey. Yeah, there's a lot of trivia, but I'm going to try. I tried to distill it's the most, you know, it's a lot. Harvey Stevens as Damien was largely chosen for this role when he attacked Richard Donner during auditions. Donner asked all the little boys to come at him as if they were attacking Catherine in the church wedding scene. Oh, my. Stevens screamed and clawed at Donner's face, kicked him in the groin during this act. Donner whipped the kid off him, ordered the kids blonde hair to be dyed black and cast him as Damien.
[01:54:48:05 - 01:54:53:03]
Speaker 2
I like to know the other kids who tried and Donner just beat them all.
[01:54:53:03 - 01:54:55:02]
Speaker 28
No, not good enough.
[01:54:56:12 - 01:55:01:08]
Speaker 3
I said try. Does this look like trying? Are you coming at me, sir?
[01:55:02:15 - 01:55:03:07]
Speaker 2
Come at me.
[01:55:03:07 - 01:55:13:15]
Speaker 3
Come at me, bro. According to at least one biography of Gregory Pex, he took this role as a huge cut to his salary, a mere 250 K,
[01:55:14:19 - 01:55:18:16]
Speaker 3
but was also guaranteed 10 percent of the films box office gross.
[01:55:18:16 - 01:55:19:06]
Speaker 2
I knew this.
[01:55:19:06 - 01:55:26:00]
Speaker 3
So when it went on to gross more than 60 million in the US alone, it became the highest paid performance of Pex career.
[01:55:27:07 - 01:55:38:04]
Speaker 3
The biggest problem with shooting was the ominous black dog that the animal was nothing like the creature was supposed to be portraying. He kept licking and wanting to play with the co-stars rather than threaten them.
[01:55:39:07 - 01:55:55:00]
Speaker 3
Jerry Goldstein didn't want to attend the Academy Awards that year since he already lost multiple times before and didn't want to go through the ordeal of losing again. Director Richard Dauter told him he was going to win without a doubt. Goldsmith was so nervous throughout the ceremony, he was smoking two cigarettes at the same time.
[01:55:56:17 - 01:56:00:06]
Speaker 3
It's Goldsmith's only Oscar. It's not enough. It's not enough. There we go.
[01:56:00:06 - 01:56:04:01]
Speaker 2
This is his only Oscar was for this movie? Oh, how interesting.
[01:56:04:01 - 01:56:05:21]
Speaker 3
Which is funny because it's like one song.
[01:56:05:21 - 01:56:10:10]
Speaker 2
Also funny because he did like 70 films. I know that's true.
[01:56:10:10 - 01:56:17:06]
Speaker 1
They're all huge films. And they're all amazing. It's one of the names that you go. Oh, he's probably up there with 10 or 15 at least. Wow.
[01:56:17:06 - 01:56:25:08]
Speaker 3
When the fishbowl falls to the ground and the dead fish went. So when the mom falls off the stool, a big fishbowl goes to.
[01:56:27:05 - 01:56:45:05]
Speaker 3
It's actually dead sardines painted orange and used in place of actual goldfish because Donner refused to kill real goldfish for the sake of making a movie in the 70s. That's fucking amazing. Dude, that's incredible because people will be slaughtering. People were still swallowing
[01:56:45:05 - 01:56:45:23]
Speaker 1
goldfish at that time.
[01:56:45:23 - 01:56:52:15]
Speaker 2
Is it? Were you did you come across any of the trivia on that falling scene? Because it's such a stylistic. Okay. I want to hear.
[01:56:52:15 - 01:57:05:16]
Speaker 3
Yes, I did. Let me see if that's the next one. It's it's yes. So the shot of Lee Remick falling on the floor was done by building a floor on a vertical wall and then dollying an upright remake backwards towards it.
[01:57:05:16 - 01:57:06:12]
Speaker 2
Oh, interesting.
[01:57:06:12 - 01:57:13:10]
Speaker 3
Yeah, that's cool. So yeah, because it does look pretty crazy. I can't remember if there was a bit of a contra zoom in there too, but it looked pretty good.
[01:57:14:11 - 01:57:32:18]
Speaker 3
Because Harvey Stevens was so young, Richard Donner found the best way to direct him was to provoke genuine reactions before the camera. For example, when Damien is angry at being taken to church, Donner got his peeved facial expression by shouting to Stevens off camera. What are you looking at you little bugger? I'll clobber you.
[01:57:34:10 - 01:57:35:22]
Speaker 3
I wanted to save the goldfish.
[01:57:37:13 - 01:57:38:09]
Speaker 2
No problem
[01:57:39:22 - 01:57:40:15]
Speaker 2
with the humans.
[01:57:40:15 - 01:58:06:00]
Speaker 3
You know, boys, they got to grow up strong. There you go. Fine. The film was originally called the birthmark. But when filming in a maternity ward, the first bit, so many mothers were unhappy with seeing things that were saying, you know, filming of the birthmark here, because they felt like it was bad luck that they changed the signs to say filming the omen and that title stuck.
[01:58:06:00 - 01:58:10:05]
Speaker 2
Wow. Yeah, that's wild. Oh, man, better than birthmark. Yeah.
[01:58:11:14 - 01:58:29:11]
Speaker 3
The South African Center board passed this film for screening but ordered that all references to the devil, Satan, etc, be removed. Donner and outspoken critic of apartheid took them on publicly stating that if they were Christian and believed in the Bible in the existence of God, they should not deny the existence of the devil to.
[01:58:30:20 - 01:58:36:11]
Speaker 3
David Warner captured severed head for years until his divorce when his ex-wife obtained custody of it.
[01:58:40:05 - 01:58:43:12]
Speaker 1
That might be one of the best trivia things. Oh, whatever.
[01:58:43:12 - 01:58:45:00]
Speaker 2
I'm keeping the head.
[01:58:45:00 - 01:58:47:04]
Speaker 3
I want my ex's fucking head.
[01:58:48:05 - 01:58:55:05]
Speaker 3
It had to be written in there. Yeah, I do a move written in there. It's so beautiful. She's like, all right, lawyers.
[01:58:56:17 - 01:58:59:17]
Speaker 3
He can keep the house. But I get his fucking head.
[01:59:00:21 - 01:59:26:03]
Speaker 3
And then, of course, we've heard of all the background stuff. So here's just a little summary. The film seemed to fall victim to a sinister curse stars Gregory Peck and screenwriter David Seltzer took separate planes to the UK. Yet both planes were struck by lightning while producer Harvey Bernhard was in Rome. Lightning just missed him. Rottweilers hired for the film attacked their trainers, but I guess not the friendly one.
[01:59:27:05 - 01:59:58:09]
Speaker 3
A hotel at which director Donner was saying got bombed by the IRA. He was also struck by a car after Peck canceled another flight to Israel. The plane would have he would have chartered crashed killing everyone on board. One day on the shoot, several principal members of the crew survived a head on car crash. And the jinx appeared to persist well in a post production when special effects artist John Richardson was injured and his girlfriend beheaded. Oh, my God. And then on the set of A Bridge Too Far.
[01:59:58:09 - 02:00:00:12]
Speaker 1
Holy shit. Oh, my God.
[02:00:00:12 - 02:00:19:05]
Speaker 3
Yeah, awful. Yeah. So that's the the rundown. I heard a lot of them separately, but and it's tough because there's like a lot of marketing around these horror films at the time where they really wanted to amp it up. So they're finding every little thing. It does feel to me like the most curse of the curse films, but
[02:00:20:05 - 02:00:20:12]
Speaker 3
yeah.
[02:00:20:12 - 02:00:24:17]
Speaker 2
It's a lot. Boy, I just love this movie. When we get
[02:00:25:18 - 02:00:35:21]
Speaker 2
into the prequel movie, that's where I think things I'm like, you guys, you can't change this much of it because the prequel movie is about the nun who gives birth to.
[02:00:35:21 - 02:00:36:21]
Speaker 3
It's very weird.
[02:00:36:21 - 02:00:40:21]
Speaker 2
And I'm like, we know from this movie at the end of that of that,
[02:00:41:21 - 02:00:52:06]
Speaker 2
the first open prequel, they show a picture of Gregory Peck. They tie it right into this room, but they forget that we've seen the Jackal mother of Daniel.
[02:00:52:06 - 02:01:03:21]
Speaker 3
It is very strange. And I yeah, I was watching it and having seen it, but a long time ago, my husband had seen the new one, but not the original. And he was like,
[02:01:04:21 - 02:01:06:16]
Speaker 3
what's going to be in that casket?
[02:01:07:23 - 02:01:21:16]
Speaker 3
Because we know what's supposed to be in that casket. And he opened it and he was like, oh, big, big problems going forward. So yeah,
[02:01:23:08 - 02:01:36:11]
Speaker 3
yeah, it's like why bother tying it in so strongly at all and having it end with him being like the boy's name, Damien, or whatever the fuck he said at the end of that movie. And like, why bother doing that if it's so
[02:01:37:11 - 02:01:39:12]
Speaker 3
different? It just feels wild.
[02:01:39:12 - 02:01:54:16]
Speaker 2
This is also the movie. I mean, Damien is the name of the priest in The Exorcist. But this movie comes out and you're not going to name your kid Damien again. This is like, you know, Adolf is not a name that gets thrown around very easily anymore either.
[02:01:54:16 - 02:01:59:07]
Speaker 3
Yeah, my high school boyfriend was supposed to be Damien and instead he got named Darien.
[02:01:59:07 - 02:02:00:00]
Speaker 2
Darien.
[02:02:00:00 - 02:02:00:16]
Speaker 3
Yeah.
[02:02:01:22 - 02:02:15:18]
Speaker 3
But I will say they apparently had talked about naming the kid different things. I cut out this piece of trivia, but they ended up going with Damien because of one of the crew members' kids was named the other thing. And they were like, no, you're not going to name it after this.
[02:02:15:18 - 02:02:29:23]
Speaker 2
No, not shotgun. Because I always thought, what an odd choice to name him Damien when the father priest name in Exorcist is Damien Carris. When did Exorcist come out? 73.
[02:02:29:23 - 02:02:32:01]
Speaker 3
So this was 76.
[02:02:32:01 - 02:02:39:08]
Speaker 2
Yeah. I mean, this is really trying to cash in on that whole Exorcist stuff.
[02:02:39:08 - 02:02:42:02]
Speaker 1
That could be like, you know, it would be fun.
[02:02:43:03 - 02:02:43:12]
Speaker 1
Maybe.
[02:02:43:12 - 02:02:44:15]
Speaker 3
It's hilarious.
[02:02:44:15 - 02:02:57:22]
Speaker 1
But yeah, this is there's just after the Exorcist, there's that flood of movies like that. And very few of them rose out. Yeah. This definitely. For sure. Rises out of that.
[02:02:57:22 - 02:02:59:10]
Speaker 2
Yeah.
[02:02:59:10 - 02:03:09:08]
Speaker 3
Well, it was super fun. And I'm really glad I got to go and get this one. Yeah. Yeah. It's just like, okay, cool. I get a classic.
[02:03:09:08 - 02:03:14:17]
Speaker 2
That means I get Damien too, though. And I think that it is as good as the first movie, quite honestly.
[02:03:14:17 - 02:03:15:23]
Speaker 3
So is this the same one?
[02:03:15:23 - 02:03:17:04]
Speaker 2
The one
[02:03:17:04 - 02:03:19:23]
Speaker 3
is number two or number three of Samuel.
[02:03:19:23 - 02:03:32:21]
Speaker 2
Oh, Sam Neill is in three. Yeah, I'll be doing I'll be doing that one. Yeah, that one's good. And then we got you getting the TV fourth sequel, which I haven't seen. I've not either. So
[02:03:32:21 - 02:03:37:23]
Speaker 3
I'm okay. I'm all right with it. I'm amped. I've got the energy integrated.
[02:03:37:23 - 02:03:52:22]
Speaker 2
